I still play my old Red Version, even though it no longer saves, as well as my blue, yellow, crystal, gold, silver, ruby sapphire, emerald, firered, leafgreen, stadium, snapshot, and colisseum X3

I have one from each gen. yellow, gold, emerald (my personal fave) and firered. and I can't wait for when (hopefully) they do a remake of yellow. of course, I'll keep my origional.

out of curiosity, did you ever do the mew glitch with yellow?

also, what's your fave pokemon? I'll give you three guess as to mine  :mowsmile (hint, what kind of animal do I obsess over?)

I lost all mine. D: I had Gold, Silver, Blue and Yellow...and the Trading Card Game.....and Sapphire.

Lemme guess, Kit. Your favorite pokemon's Vulpix/Ninetales? ;)

...My favorite's Dragonite. D: It's so fat and adorable.

I played Pokemon way back in the day... I even had two gameboys just so I could get all the friggin' Pokemon by myself. I stopped playing after experiencing Pokemon Stadium and playing Snap in stores. Last I heard, the latest GC release actually reused numerous parts from the previous game, much like Dynasty Warriors does every two months. Anyway, Pokemon is another RPG that is based far too much on level grinding, and the rock, paper, scissors game mechanics only tilt the matches by about 30%.

Walking in tall grass just isn't fun for ten hours and nobody uses all of the Pokemon they catch anyway. Link hacks bushes down and finds caves filled with treasure; Ash sneaks around in the tall grass looking for tiny creatures he will never use. I think that illustrates my point.

*looks at all her hours and adds them up*

i have walked in the grass looking for tiny creatures for 4562 hours.

Huh. How'd you guys (Xze and Kao) get games that couldn't save? That's weird.

The only problems I had with pokemon games were ROM problems. XP Dang time wouldn't work on my Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald ROMs. D: I NEED MY BERRIEZ DEMMIT.

EDIT: BTW, I -just- remembered that I have Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Stadium 2. D: D: D: I'm such a bad pokemon fan.

EDIT #2: Okies, now I just remembered that I had Hey You! Pikachu too. There's something wrong with me today. D: *Pokes brain*

My old blue game refused to save after a few years. My silver game also stuffed up a few times too. I still have a rom of Ruby though on the computer (goooo Masterball cheat!). I think I also have Pokemon Pinball somewhere around, as well as some of the 64 games. I adored Pokemon Snap.

And let's not get into all the Pokemon cards I own...

...And Dragonair owns you all with its prettiness.

I admit that i admitted Pokemon more than I should have... it was my "just one more battle... wait, Its 4 am in the morning!?" game a few years back.

But I decided to only play one version for the two sets of monsters, I tried to paly Blue after Red and Jade after Ruby but it just tires me so...

I liked Stadium and Snap >>

I had a bunch of the cards, yeah, then I gave them away to a little kid <<

When the games get old and worn, I think they just hit their limits. Though I attribute mien no longer saving to too much Gameshark. I got bored after I beat the game sto I started screwing with things >>

Oh, and it was the Pokemon 10th anniversary this year, if you didn't know.

I'd like to see a Pokemon / Spore crossover.

Create your own pokemon, and fling them into orbit with your flying saucer (PIKAAAAAaaaaaaaaaa), or place them on planets with no atmosphere (... SPLORTCH), or start an intergalactic war with other pokemon, or kill as many pikachus as you can.  >:3

as far as the games not saving, theres a good chance it's the little battery in the carts either being dead (in which case, leaving it on for a few hours should recharge it, or so I'm told) or in need of replacement.
of course, red, blue, and yellow have missingno.

Well, my little sister's still playing it... she's been nonstop for months now...

I don't like the newest series' (Emerals, Sapphire, etc.) music. But I hear it every freaking second my sister's around... >.<

Pokemon is incredibly fun, but has become far too complicated. How many of the danged things are there now? 300+? *sigh*

I wonder what Pokemon would be like as an MMO...

who knows. mabye on the wii...
ah, that would be heaven. you get to actually "throw" the pokeballs. it'd actually be better if you had an offline area with the main pokemon story, and then have a new place where all the trainers gather, and it would have exclusive pokemon and it would be so so very cool

Post by: Rowne on August 11, 2006, 09:54:50 PM
Okay, the first thing I want to bring up is that I have seen Pokémon as an RPG and the memory leaves me in fits of helpless giggles.  There was this Sphere UO server long, long ago that I found where bottles could be used to trap and tame UO critters (basically it was a twist of the beast mastery skill).  No, I'm not kidding.

So you had Paladins running around and throwing empty potion bottles at Dragons.  Again, no, I'm not kidding.  It's actually an easy thing to code but it resulted in some of the funniest gameplay I'd ever seen.  The PvP was so incredibly wrong that it should've been outlawed, not wrong as in bad but rather as in plain funny.

Watching armoured men throwing potion bottles around and summoning armies of Dragons (all with their own, cute NPC dialog lines) before going to war was ... well.  As I said, I can't think about it without laughing.

If anyone really wanted a Pokémon MMO, just grab the Sphere server, a UO client and learn how to script Sphere.  I'd say that something like that could likely be knocked together within a month and soon you'll have aged mages running around screaming "Vas Ort Flam Pokéball!".  If anyone would appreciate this though, I'd think it would be Tapewolf as he's likely played Ultima Online.

To get the full effect of it though, the spawn lists would have to be changed.  At least if you want lightning-tossing palette-swapped yellow bunnies.  Again, I'm really not joking, grab sphere and see for yourself.  In fact, I think the time I spent browsing UO servers resulted in some of the most ludicrous memories I have.

Next up, Pokémon is a pleasant little RPG and it stands well against the other unique Nintendo RPGs on the handheld systems, at least providing the cartoons aren't brought into it.  I can't say it's the best handheld RPG ever as that award likely goes to Mario & Luigi but it's still a few laughs.

And I tend to swat away pesky trainers with a powerful Entei, myself.  I can't help but appreciate the big, fluffy, canine-ish crossbred thing.

I have this horrible feeling that I've dug my own grave here and that from many sides, I will be pestered to return to the ways of the Sphere, only to concoct my own variation of what I had seen in years past ... but no, I shan't.  For if I get into scripting again, I might never kick the habit.

I already have my DS ready, I bought it for Another Code, Lost in Blue, Trauma Center and Phoenix Wright, none of which I've been disappointed with.  Phoenix Wright is especially incredible, to see a top-notch, superbly funny and well executed adventure game after all these years warms my heart, especially one with as many innovations as that game.

And I'll likely pick up one of the DS Pokémon games when it comes along, just to see what they've done with the format.  I hope they do innovate a la Phantom Hourglass and we'll have lots of stylus madness.

I think it was possibly the most joyously corny cartoon I've ever seen but I devour corn like most go for meat and potatoes, so I was quite happy with it.

That and the chap who voiced Tiger had done the best Wolf voice, ever.  The only thing that even came close was that Wolf from Flight of Dragons, whom I also loved dearly.

... now I need to watch Flight of Dragons again.

I'm impressed, you must have really amazing vocal capabilities there.  I find that those are often underappreciated.  I'm a bit of a vocalist myself, though absolutely nobody in the area appreciates it when I start howling with Ochi.  *Cough.*

Anyway, the reason wherefore it can sometimes not be a good thing is quite simply because of my reaction to it, you've seen the fangirl in the latest DMFA guest comic and that's pretty much how I am around and about quadrupeds, both standard and fictional.

he's okay. of the dragon and dragon-like I prefer dragonair (he has a certain elegance) and milotec (I think that's how it's spelled). milotec is basically the "new" gyrados". he evolves from a rare, difficult to find, and insanely weak pokemon called feebass.

There are a startlingly large amount of Pokemon DDR simfiles on Bemanistyle (http://www.bemanistyle.com/)...

There's a lot to reply to here, that'll teach me not to stray away from the forums, to get distracted by things like RL and free Asian MMOs.

I'm surprised you can't sing Xze, it sounds like you have some vocal talent there and usually singing's not that far away, it just takes practice.  Still, as far as my perception of reality goes, a good howler has all the worth of a good singer.

Then again, I'm a metal fan, so I would say that.

As for Dakata's random avatars, I find the middle one the most terrifying I think for reasons that I won't disclose.  Other than I've heard that song used alongside the most ludicrous gaming video ever.

And huzzah for simfiles!  Now if only folks would start making things for Frets on Fire.  That's another open source game that really deserves more saturation.  And songs.  It deserves more songs.  I have a guitar controller here that's suffering a serious lack of use.  <.<

Yes, yes, YES! More Frets on Fire songs! There are, like, none!  :mowsad And the ones that do exist don't do the double-track thing and don't sound nearly as cool as they should. Bah!

Hopefully it'll pick up like Stepmania did.  To be honest though, I'm surprised anyone here other than myself knows of Frets on Fire.  How'd you find out about it?  I got wind of it from my bi-daily (or so) browsing of happypenguin.org.

I wanted a version of Guitar Hero I could have my own songs for, and I already posesed a RedOctane PS2 -> PC adaptor for my dance pads, which also works with the Guitar Hero controller, I assume, since they're made by the same people. I found the Frets on Fire page on Google, downloaded, listened to Jurgen ReallylongGermanlastname's tutorial, and liked what I found. I proceeded to search for songs... and turned up next to nothing.

I want to program my own songs, but I have a billion other things above it on the to do list...

Its not often you see someone take a realistic approach to pokemon drawing. Like the 'realistic' drawing of Mario and Yoshi I saw one time. Its cool, but looks so weird to my mind at first.

I wish pokemon were real. I'd love to have a ninetails irl. I'd probably name her akomachi, and she'd follow me around everwhere and be so awesome. and anyone who dissagreed would get crispified.

Myself, I wouldn't want a Pokémon.  I would want a gigantic robotic canine along the lines of Treble or perhaps something along the lines of this beautiful example of a mechanical life-form (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/26896478/?qo=39&q=robotic+wolf).

I'll admit Togepi can be fairly cute, though thats based entirely on how it acts and behaves in the show and movies. In the game, its jsut a little thing.

Metronome is, however, a really cool move.

Anybody ever replace those damned batteries for the internal clocks for G/S/C?

It looks like a simple three-volt but Nintendo seems to have decided to be mean and RIVET the connectors to the battery itself, making home replacement a ridiculous adventure. I don't know what Nintendo was thinking there, there were GB cartridges with internal clocks BEFORE G/S and replacing their batteries were simple enough. Sure, you lose your save info if you do it, but it's bound to happen anyway, and I would have LIKED to atleast be able to play the game past the sixth year of owning it.

Bah. I could always get an emulator but I'm lazy, and have extra batteries lying around to get creative with.

yep. the day/night thing was pretty cool. I'm suprised they didn't do it in the gba generation. I'd hope that they do it with diamond/pearl, but the chances of me getting a ds are near nonexistant. see, that's why I like being about a gen behind on the handhelds. I can get an used one for a good price, and they usually keep the last gen games around for a while. that and gba/sp plays color games, which currently account for about 1/3 of my little collection (it used to be a bigger fraction, but then I got some really cool gba games, including firered and emerald)

The clock feature was great, but quite obviously, broken. I don't know you would fix it. I suppose it's possible you could draw power from the batteries that are already in your hand-held to replace what's lost on the internal battery, but that would definately shorten the battery-life of whatever you'd use to power the hand-held and still doesn't guarantee your on-board cartridge battery will still be chugging along after 6+ years.

Someone (or I) needs to hurry up and invent pc-based pokemon games. THAT'LL fix your clock problem, and even open up the possibility of internet-wide trading/link-battles. Very neat.

there are actually programs out there that allow net pokemon battles. here's one I found.

www.netbattle.net
It's a free online battling arena for building your own dream pokemon team and fighting. Just build a team, enter a server, and challenge somebody. Smogon server is the current popular server. I don't play it, though. also, I've heard that there are a LOT of REALLY experienced players.

They're moving it into pseudo-3D?  That's looking rather pretty, I must say.  It looks like it might be another worthy entry into the Pokémon series, since they always seem to manage to come up with fascinating new content for every machine they release that franchise on.

Still, I don't know why but Flaming Monkey strikes me as so very wrong and something that shouldn't be a Pokémon.  I mean, if you combine that with the standard fighting techniques of a Simian, it just doesn't bear thinking about.

I'd say it's because metals in Japanese animé and games have intrinsically different values to what they do in reality.  This is why all their mechs are shiny and multicoloured, in the World of Pokémon, steel probably is a shiny blue.  And copper likely radiates with glowing ruby energy or somesuch.

As for the water guy, no clue ... I just hope it's not a nod towards pollution.

Had it been the simian's head though, I wouldn't have raised as much of an eyebrow.  It's just that these pyrotechnics are eminating from the area of said critter's bum and that I find more than marginally disturbing.

And just what is wrong with animals with flaming backsides?  :batman

Pfft. I got all the starters in G/S/C. :B Because I'm cool. And I didn't even use a gameshark. Or codebreaker, or game genie or whatever.

...Don't remember if I did it in R/B/Y though. >>

FKK: You missed the previous page, it isn't simply animals with flaming tushes in general, oh no.  It's simians with flaming backsides.

I'll go over it again (just to traumatize everyone here): How does a monkey usually fight?  What does it fling?  Now this particular monkey has a backside that's on fire.

There will be much property damage, oh yes.

No, bad bunky!  Bad!  The Pokémon Centre is not your enemy.  OMG, Nurse Joy!  ... I think we should leave.

Ah, Pokemon...heh, I never thought I'd like them until I actually played the game, my old Red Version, which I still have.  My team was ALWAYS: My starter, Articuno, Rapidash, Dragonair, Raichu, and Pigeot.  Heh, any team I have in my games, I've always had a Pigeot.

Same thing with my new FireRed...except substitute Rapidash with Arcanine. :p  the fire types were always my favorites.  I have Sapphire, but though the game is very addictive and I like the Pokemon I have, I must admit I'll always only like the first and second generations.

I swear if they keep coming out with more then there'll be too much to catch all of them.  XD

it's official. I play waaaaay too much pokemon

how do I know this, you ask?

I've started EV training my pokemon. that fact that I know what an EV is alone means I play too much.

it's kinda funny, because up until I got my mew, I knew what an EV is, but I didn't care for the idea of training my pokemon in EVs. But then I saw how killer my mew became when I used those stat reducing berries and built the stat EVs up from the ground, I decided I'd do that for new pokemon in the team.

the scary thing is that I don't even do multiplayer battling.

you just go to gamefaqs.com, search for the game, go the faqs section from the search results, and there should at least be some information in the general faqs (I usually go with the largest one first), if not a special faq with that information.

Alright, God-Beast, I'd appreciate your help. Here are my questions about the new abilities:

Ability: Gluttony
Effect: This pokemon eats held berries faster. Just... how much faster?

Ability: Magic Guard
Effect: Only attacks that do damage work against this pokemon. Can pokemon with this ability heal themselves?

Ability: Quick Feet
Effect: if this pokemon is burnt, paralyzed or poisoned, its speed increases 1 grade. Is the speed decrease that comes with paralysis ignored or not?

Ability: Skill Link
Effect: Raises number of hits when using moves that hit multiple times. How much?

Ability: Snipe
Effect: When this pokemon inflicts a Critical Hit, the base power of the attack increases. How much?

Ability: Sun Power
Effect: When Sunny Day is in effect, HP decreases 1/8 each turn but Special Attack increases 1 grade. Is this correct? Please confirm.

Ability: Technician
Effect: This pokemon's weak moves (which ones?) increase in power. How much?

And how exactly does Poison Heal work? Each guide says something different! Could you test it, please?

Then I have another question... there are some attacks that require physical contact and others that don't (this affects abilities like Cute Charm, Rough Skin and Static). Are the ones that do the same attacks that are classed as Physical (as opposed of Special) in Diamond/Pearl?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.

lol thanks for giving me something to do today in my day off! :)
i'll look for all these with attention...i might be ready to reply all later today or tomorrow, mmk? ;)

Yes. I've been trying several, but the emulators never seem to be able to read them. Could you point me to a good GB/GBA emulator and some compatible pokemon ROMs?

The problem also might be that your ROM is corrupted and has nothing to do with the emulator. ROMs for Pokemon Emerald, and Ruby and Sapphire(v1.2) do not work on any emulator I've tried out. Earlier versions of Ruby and Sapphire do work though.

Don't R/S/E roms have a...clock problem or something? So you can't grow berries or anything? Could've sworn a Ruby rom of mine had that problem. My berries never grew 'cuz they waz ded. D:

I think you need a patch to fix it.

That's only if you don't put a real time clock on your emulator. If you go to the options menu and checkmark the clock you won't have any problems.

The real games also had such a problem. After a year of game time, the berry glitch would kick in and no berries would grow. Until you linked with Emerald, Fire, Leaf, XD, Colosseum, downloaded Jirachi, or went to an EB/Gamestop/Babbages for the berry patch.

Or replaced the batteries. It never happens with an emulator since there are no batteries. As long as you don't abuse of QuickSave features.

Alright, God-Beast, I'd appreciate your help. Here are my questions about the new abilities:

Ability: Gluttony
Effect: This pokemon eats held berries faster. Just... how much faster?

aparently 50% faster, not sure.

Ability: Magic Guard
Effect: Only attacks that do damage work against this pokemon. Can pokemon with this ability heal themselves?

Just as everyone else.

Ability: Quick Feet
Effect: if this pokemon is burnt, paralyzed or poisoned, its speed increases 1 grade. Is the speed decrease that comes with paralysis ignored or not?

Paralysis doesn't decrease speed...just negates your moves randomly.

Ability: Skill Link
Effect: Raises number of hits when using moves that hit multiple times. How much?

For every hit it normaly does, there's a random chance to hit again.

Ability: Snipe
Effect: When this pokemon inflicts a Critical Hit, the base power of the attack increases. How much?

25%.

Ability: Sun Power
Effect: When Sunny Day is in effect, HP decreases 1/8 each turn but Special Attack increases 1 grade. Is this correct? Please confirm.

i don't know about the 1/8 thing.

Ability: Technician
Effect: This pokemon's weak moves (which ones?) increase in power. How much?

i guess it depends on the pokemon's level...aparently all atacks less or equal  than 50 pts.

And how exactly does Poison Heal work? Each guide says something different! Could you test it, please?

i know that toxic inflicts a different form of poison status. This status effect usually comes in a variety of forms, such as on fire, cold, etc. A character who is affected by Poison takes damage at a regular rate (once a turn, usually). In some games, this drain of HP is not able to kill the character, but leaves him or her so weak that even the most pathetic of attacks can defeat him or her. Some games also have an "On Fire" effect, which is very similar. EarthBound, which still has this status effect, also has a similar, weaker version known as "cold." Several Final Fantasy titles also have a status called "Seizure," which works similar to Poison, but cannot be cured with items that normally cure the latter. In Pokemon, the attack Toxic confers a special form of Poison, where the damage inflicted doubles every subsequent round.

Then I have another question... there are some attacks that require physical contact and others that don't (this affects abilities like Cute Charm, Rough Skin and Static). Are the ones that do the same attacks that are classed as Physical (as opposed of Special) in Diamond/Pearl?

i guess so i don't recall all...but the attack itself explains this...there are all kinds of attacks physcal and normal and fighting are the ones you're in doubt, might be at least...

Thanks in advance.

you're welcome. :)

if i failed somewhere and didn't notice yet you have this to check it out:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Status_effect

other than that only playing those games and checking with attention is the best solution! ;)
Title: Re: Pokemon >w<
Post by: Gabi on November 21, 2006, 11:14:20 AM
Paralysis DOES decrease your speed. It ALSO negates moves randomly.

I didn't ask how Toxic worked, I know how it works; I asked how the ability Poison Heal works.

I don't have the games, otherwise I would have tested myself. I have no questions about status effects.

I think I can use some the information on Magic Guard and Technician (for Technician, I will assume a power increase similar to that of Sunny Day for Fire moves or Rain Dance for Water moves). Thank you.

I don't do team rating. My policy is "go with whatever you like as long as it works for you". But there's a subforum here (http://www.pokemasters.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=34) where people are often eager to rate teams.

let's see...

first of all, get an electric type move on that jolteon. I reccomend thunderbolt if you have the tm. thunder may be more powerfull, but when you factor in accuracy (100% vs 75%) thunderbolt is much better. beyond that, they're all low enough in level that I really can't say. be sure to pick up an abra, especially if you have the ability to trade it to another game and back. also, starmie is an absolute killer, with a moveset like recover, thundrbolt, ice beam, and surf.
in-game,  just about anything can beat it if leveled high enough. if you're looking for good final movesets for pokemon, smogon.com is probably the best place.

why are you holding 2 fire pokémons on a team? firstly I suggest you teach something electric to your jolteon, as your team won't have anything good to fight against water pokémons even if there is a electric one.

Your team seems to be overly offensive so it would be a good Idea to have a pokémon with good status inflictor moves, probaly a plant one, they're great at these.
Additionally I recommend keeping a good normal pokémon since while they aren't weak against most types and can often learn moves of other types.

Your charizard can cover fly and fire attacks, so I think your aerodactyl and your growlithe are redundant.

for a plant pokémon I'd recommend Parasect or exeggutor, and for a normal pokémon, a Raticate, Wigglytuff or a Snorlax

Ah, it's been a while.  I personally ruined it for myself with too many strategy guides and too much Cinnabar Island glitching.

I should try that game again sometime.  When you think about it, it was pretty darned big for a Game Boy game, and on the topic of Cinnabar Island, Mewtwo had a great build-up...

heh. ash is somewhat of a legend on the anime board of gamefaqs. they say he's one of biggest deus ex users out there, with such hits as "Aim for the horn!" and of course thunder armor. but I stopped watching shortly after the original.
as for the card game, well... I stopped playing it near the end of elementarly school, but there is one boneheaded trade that sticks out in my mind. I originally was trading a machamp for a rhydon, but I didn't want the little kid to have to hunt for machop and machoke, so I gave him those as well. at least all three were from a starter deck and not some increadibly rare cards.

I've been working on a couple of the DS games for awhile now.  Pokemon Ranger and Pokemon Blue Mystery Dungeon.  Unfortunately, Blue Mystery Dungeon is just a Pokemon version of every other Mystery Dungeon style game out there.  Interestingly enough, it's basically the same template that others have used in several other games as evidenced here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fushigi_no_Dungeon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fushigi_no_Dungeon)  And it's also very similar to NetHack.

Pokemon Ranger is pretty awesome though.

Well, my little sister convinced dad to buy her "Pokemon Quartz" from eBay, since she saw it was obviously different. I knew right off that it was either a complete fake or a 3rd-party hack. Turns out the latter was correct. However, despite my protests they went ahead and got it.

I don't know what to make of it... she seems to enjoy it, though the original sprites are terrible, and the translation sucks. It is based off of Pokemon Ruby and seems to play well enough on the DS Lite.

I think it's a colossal waste of money, and nowhere near as good as the true Pokemon games. The only good thing I have to say about it is that they did improve some of the music.

Just felt like mentioning this here...  :paranoid

Because the program Pictochat is flawed not the DS itself.

Plus, I said "hopefully" which means, "most likely no" due to past experience. Metroid Prime: Hunters can set you up with people in Japan, but there isn't a need for much translation compared to Pokemon.

Friend Codes will be implemented to play with people you want to, accessible via PokéCenters.
Then there's the tower that allows interaction with anyone online. No friend codes required for that.
There'll probably be mingling of types allowed. Since, I believe, Animal Crossing is able to go international.

Place Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/Fire/Leaf into the DS's GBA slot and you can send 6 per day to D/P. However, when you do, they go to the PokéPal Park (or whatever they end up calling it). The rarer the Pokémon you send, the harder they'll be to find in the park. They will retain every last bit of info, stats, OT, etc, and the park balls have a 100% catch rate.

Be forewarned though, that you CANNOT trade them back to the GBA generation. Once they're in D/P, they're there till Deletion Day.

Man that is going to be fun playing both Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. I wonder if you can trade your pokemon on the other pokemon games With some of the pokemon from Diamond and Pearl.

Just breed the ones you can and send the hatched eggs. That is what I'm going to do. I'll just use a cheat to catch more rare pokemon then send those over too, it should work.

If you have Emerald, you could always use the Clone glitch instead.
Personally, though, I couldn't care less. Once the new series comes out, I pretty much hardly ever play the older series. Once I had put all my pokés on Gold, I stopped playing Red. .....Though I did still go back to Yellow to play the Surfing Pikachu game. >.>

Just look it up on most any random Emerald cheats site. It's not hard and deals with the Battle Frontier.
