Jairus is banned because technically speaking haiku should be written in a set of 5-7-5 morae (singular mora) as opposed to syllables as many people believe.

Darkdragon is banned because most people don't give a damn. Besides, in Japanese a syllable conveys slightly less information, so 17 total syllables could only be a few words or something like that. Frankly, aside from the 5-7-5 rule, I don't really care much for other rules. A haiku apparently should also be written after careful contemplation, but I just do them.
