Personal theory that Ambaaargh did this purely to mess with the shippers and theorists.

But it also provides an interesting look into the power of a Clan Leader. Aary took a hit of Cyra's emotions, and it seems to have left quite the impression, not just in having to deal with what happened but in that it is apparently still happening.

I'd also like to say that I particularly love all the expressions in today's strip.

Dest, Abel and now Dan, she certainly does crush on a bunch of unavailable people. If Dan and Abel do turn out to be related, I'm wondering if she had a crush on their common ancestor..

Considering her age, she might not have had enough time to develope a crush on that shared ancestor.

As for Dan being unavailable, let's not jump to conclusions to quickly. After all, you never know if Matilda might be into sharing. :P

If nothing else, she's culturally predisposed to be open to the idea. See for instance page 8 of her side story. While the narration is directly brought into question, what we see is very much implied to be more accurate, and we see them explicitly talking about being someone's "starting wives", and becoming "a primary wife", so the polygamous aspect of her old culture does seem to hold up to scrutiny.

Having said that, my read on the characters is that it probably wouldn't work out.  Matilda might be fine with it, and Aary might be open to exploring it, but Dan feels like a very one-woman kind of guy to me. And that would cause a polyamorous relationship centered on him to collapse fairly quickly, even discounting the fact that in-universe he's only come around to even thinking of Aary as a person and friend (rather than a distrusted 'other') relatively recently.

I actually like that it's actually a very sensible and realistic way of handling the situation in that sometimes things are just very complicated and you feel like you need to sort out what your feelings are.
Also in that just because you might be 'in love' with someone doesn't mean its always going to be appropriate to act on that.
A central philosophical issue with worlds, possible or impossible, is how they represent what they represent. This is obviously connected to the problem of what kind of things they are. Perhaps impossible worlds are metaphysically different from possible worlds, and represent in a different way. Or perhaps they are metaphysically on par with possible worlds. Or, they may be taken as nonexistent objects. Or as abstract entities which represent by encoding...

Further: Let us not forget that Aary is also the ex of one of Dan's close friends, and the two were pretty serious for a while.  That already risks making it weird even without accounting for the fact that Merlitz has been MIA for some time now, which adds another uncomfortable wrinkle to the dynamic. 

"Oh hi, Merlz! You're back! Guess what? While you were gone, the two of us started dating!" is just such an awkward conversation to have.

I kinda feel like that's almost one of the less akward aspects of the relationship at this point lol. Like that's the one thing that can be put soley on Merlitz to the extent it can be put on the main crew at all.

Re-reading the last chapter or so, I really don't believe it was due to Cyra's influence, just the amount of bonding they did after. Despite being pretty thick at times, Dan showed a lot of emotional understanding of what she was going through about her feelings with Destania and did what he could despite already having a lot on his mind.

Also they are ostensibly adults, and Aary and Merlitz parted pretty amicably. I don't see Merlitz as the type to harbor ill will over a relationship that, frankly, is over, and shouldn't have any bearing on what his friends would want.

All-in-all, honestly no idea where I'd even want this to go, but the possibility is fun to think about.

I had that exact same sort of reaction when I started liking Aliph Soulstealer.  Which was around the point after Regina's father Malle pawned her off on Dark Pegasus in the hopes he'd be humiliated by her failures, and the following moments between uncle and niece.

Also, yeah.  Aary has gotten much more sympathetic... especially around that "hit to the emotions" event.
