The idea is that if Jy was out of the spotlight and was killed, it wouldn't be a big deal. But if the bachelor of the year goes missing, that would make entertainment headlines and there'd be a lot more hubub to find out what happened to him. THe way Mab talks, it seems like the creature council doesn't want all that attention.

One big thing is we only know a general view of the politics of Furrae, we can't say for sure what would sway any group's decisions. I.E. how big of a move you have to make for them to stop or change tactics. Amber is the only one to know the exact political situation of the world and even then, she ain't gonna share what isn't story relevant. Much less doing so ahead of time.

Obviously since they are Fae and know better The magazine plan should work, at least in the short term.

It seems the next best thing for the creature council to do would be to discredit Jyrras's work.
He has to have a manufacturing plant somewhere, start tainting the goods magically in some way. Source materials or finished product; it wouldn't matter.
Technology will eventually malfunction when exposed to enough magical influences. If tainted enough your washing machine might belch flaming water and clothing or just fail...
Tainted source materials if found would halt production for awhile and possibly cause recalls of products. If nothing else the finished product might would fail or the machinery making the product might fail.

Essentially, Magical Taint = Epic Fail

Maybe it's just me, but is anyone else kinda disappointed by the fact that (to most DMFA fans it seems)  Jyrras has ceased to be the "Cute Little Mad Scientist" and is now "The One Whose Sexual Preference Must Be Brought Up At All Times"?

My understanding was that one of Jyrras' main innovations was a way of mixing magic and technology (e.g. the patches).  Probably with a few insights from Mab by the looks.

Certainly true, but from my understanding typical items not meant to be used in such a manner will and do malfunction.
Levels of complexity, if I remember correctly, dictate how easy they are to sabotage.

Aside from malfunctions there is the niche market that Matilda uses, namely completely unmagically imbued products for which she uses as a clean slate. This market would become untrustworthy of Jyrras's goods if they were tainted.

I can speculate that a large number of JyCorp's patrons are beings with a distrust of creatures and the magical talents they wield. I do not know actual numbers reflecting how many beings buy simply on that premise. It is still not a number to be ignored seeing that there is some turmoil between the sides.

I'm not sure what amuses me more, the side taking this for humour and a chuckle (me, for instance, and others who are just giggling about it) or the side taking it for drama and SERIOUS BUSINESS. ("what if he dies anyway!! stalkers!! it wouldn't work!!" etc.).

So I'm just going to go back to giggling with bemusement in general. Makes me think so much of an old joke.

As for Scarydragon re: Jyrras' preference - blame the overtalkative fanbase, not the comic itself. "Bachelor of the Year" means open season for both sides of the spectrum, and made no allusions to which side would be chasing him.

It hasn't been shown that spells / magic are an undesirable attribute in JyCorp devices, any more than electricity.
A scientist studies and uses what exists. In Amber's fantasy realm, magic exists. Thus there would be a scientific study of magic.

How many fully understand why the light comes on when you flip the switch on the wall? The electron-hole theory? Resistance? Kirchoff's Voltage Law? Most don't, and yet they happily flip that switch every day. So with Beings using devices incorporating magic. They don't know how it works, and they don't care.

A device containing protection from tampering would be less likely to malfunction due to tampering after manufacture. If the devices are tested before shipping, the failure rate should be reduced.

I'd like to see how Jycorp works, actually. Is it completely automated, or does he have a working staff?
