That's the problem with promising awesome.  People dont like the idea of taking chance on the unknown versus stuff that they know is guaranteed. 

Back in my day, people would take what was behind Door #3 rather than the 3 peice furniture set!

As it happens, each bid within the last 10 minutes will extend the time remaining to 10 minutes, so sniping isn't possible if you're paying attention.

Well that's good. It was kind of silly to have the 198-strip batch going for only $5 more than the 100-strip batch.
