A little piece I was working on for my portfolio, based on an old Chinese myth. It started out as an Irish ballad, The Wind that Shakes the Barley, but it just kind of... Evolved. Also I didn't feel like drawing stalks of barley. Stippling a forest and a big tree? SO MUCH EASIER.

All very nice.

I especially like the one with the guy resting under a tree. No real bells or whistles of some big event that happened. Just a simple scene of a person resting in it beautiful serenity.

I generally don't do this kinda thing, but I thought it might be kind of neat to post an 'in the making of' GIF for people to see how a painting like Imprisoned is done. I get the question a lot about the lack of lineart, and I generally don't start with any kind of lineart, but rather splotches of color in the general shape of what I will be working on. And from then on it's just adding details and refining shapes!
