MSN hates me back

...And it's getting worse. Of course, the fact that I hate MSN should be known to everyone by now. But I used to put up with it because so many people used only MSN and invited me to chats, and it was fun even though I kept constantly blinking out of them, and sometimes even disconnecting from MSN without knowing it.

Well, now I can't even connect anymore. I get a message that reads "our protocol is not supported by the server". What I gather is that MSN doesn't want non-MSN users to connect.

I will take some time to upgrade my system at some point in January, and then I'll get a newer version of Pidgin and maybe (just maybe) I'll be able to get on MSN again. But until then, I'm afraid you won't see me there.

If you want to contact me, there's always AIM, ICQ, GTalk, IRC, Yahoo and Skype. And PMs, of course.

Have you tried Trillian at all? I use it when I remember to log on. It works pretty well for me. The best part is you can set all those messengers up with it. I think MSN is slowing getting rid of there messenger.

Thanks for the sugggestion, but it's only available to those who have Windows, iPhone or Flash Player 10. I have neither.

FWIW, Daimien, pidgin does all of those, except for possibly skype. The only problem is, MSN keep moving the goalposts, so the support is a bit iffy for older versions.

Which is a shame, really.

OK... After manually installing all the dependencies, disabling a few features (which I hopefully won't need) and copying a few missing library files from an older version, I've managed to install the new version of Pidgin from the source. Apparently, I can connect to MSN again. Let's see how bad it is this time around.

It's a pity I can't talk to you as easily through IM services as I like, but I guess I always have #comicfrenzy.  Would it be a trouble to get the info for your chat again, either here or in PM?  It'll be a bit handier than waiting for you to show up in #comicfrenzy.
