In this case? Well, first of all you should find yourself an IRC client, I personally use the Chatzilla extension/add-on to firefox, which works well enough for my purposes, but some people like mIRC better, there are others, and I suggest you look around. If you need help after obtaining a client, don't hesitate to let one of us know, I'd personally be willing to offer help if you ultimately choose Chatzilla.

I just downloaded Chatzilla but I can't figure out how to join the chat room. I checked the faq and tried /join #comicfrenzy but it says the command must be run in the context of an attached server and I don't know what that means.

start with "/connect irc.llearch.net"
then run the "/join #comicfrenzy"

You might also want to run "/nick lysander", if that happens to not be the nick you're connected with.
