This would seem to be in reference to the fourth editor of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, who went missing on a lunch break one morning and never returned.  Though a century has passed, a plaque on his desk still reads ``Lig Lury Jr, Editor, Missing, presumed Fed''

But I can't figure out what HHGTTG holiday this could be referring to.
