True Blood

There is a new series based off of a series of books. The show is called True Blood, the first book is called Dead Before Dark. The series is on HBO wherein it's largest problem is. It's a cool show with a great story, but they have too many "adult oriented" situations. Later it does cool down to such a small amount and not as revealing to a point where it's standable.

Anyways, the plot is that the Japanese develop a synthetic blood that is almost completely perfect. As such vampires "come out of the coffin" since all their nutritional needs are supplied by this synthetic blood. Well this girl in the southern US is a telepath. No real reason for it, she just is. Well a vampire, Bill (as un-vampirey as that is), comes into the bar she works at and she realizes that she can't hear his thoughts. She ends up pursuing a relationship with him and such, you should really read the books.

The show is pretty cool, Ana Paquin as the main character, but as I said too many adult scenes. I guess I could deal with it for the first three episodes which is about when it has slowed down to most of it's stop. I'd suggest checking it out, the book or the series. I want to know who else has seen it and has had the fortitude to keep watching past the first few episodes.

I've been enjoying it.  I own all of the novels (except for one which has inexplicably gone missing, and that I really need to replace).

Personally, I've always considered boobs and vampire movies/shows to be synonymous, so I'm not surprised by the explicitness of the show- especially considering the source material.  The books were no Anita Blake novels, but they do tend to have a good bit of the sexing going on.

I've been surprised at how well they're following the source material through the main plotlines.  The side plots have been a fairly welcome addition, and I'm interested to see how they'll effect those characters and how they'll interact with the main few in later seasons- especially if they continue to follow the books fairly closely.

Bite your tongue. Nothing wrong with adult situations. Better than the way "normal" TV does it, where everything is just a little too sterilized to be realistic.

Well, it's a little surprising when you're going along with the normal story line when all of a sudden something a little stronger than soft core porn comes up in the middle of it for no reason in the story. I've gotten used to it but it was kind of annoying at first.

Darkmoon

It's not stronger than softcore. You never actually see manbits or nether regions. That's a key distinction.

Also, the front card does say there'll be nudity.

I dunno, it seems to be on the border of softcore, at least as far as I've seen.

Damaris

You obviously have not seen much softcore ;)

Damnit! Now I have no reason to look into this! :<

BAH! My English teacher was telling me how amazing this show is. I want to see it because I've been dying to see something that has vampires in it and manages not to suck.

The plot is great, anyway. :3

This is probably going to be another HBO show that's better on DVDs, I can't ever maintain the patience to watch them a week at a time.

I agree with you on this, Bill.

I still want to get The Sopranos on DVD.

The Wire is so good on DVD, Season 2 is so goddamn good.

I would get the fifth season but I am a dirt-poor student that withdraws $20-at-a-time from ATMs
