The current plan is to get our Alexsi VA to do those lines, and I'll do Abel. Failing that I can play around with vocoders and pitch-shifting.

ok, when Abel says "Unimaginable pain" Does he mean "Rib crushing, thrown into the wall, then getting a beating in the nuts with a sledge hammer while your guts burn in the fires of hell" pain or more of a "Dan singing" kind of pain.
So that I'm more clear, "unimaginable pain" would be painful for a very long time say several hours or weeks.... and the other would be "unimaginable torture" and wear off eventually but the pain would forever linger in your memory and re occur in nightmares. (of course either pain would linger but in the later situation it isn't as horrible... I think.)

The last time I talked with Dan's original player, he said he had stopped reading DMFA a couple years ago. As such, I'm willing to assume that he doesnt have a whole lot of emotional interest in the goings on of his former character nor the speculation given over it.

The last time I talked with Dan's original player, he said he had stopped reading DMFA a couple years ago. As such, I'm willing to assume that he doesnt have a whole lot of emotional interest in the goings on of his former character nor the speculation given over it.
Then again, you have some like me, whose characters haven't appeared in
DMFA for two years, who still do have emotional interest. What kind of a deal is that?
Maybe if Rafe appeared more often I would lose respect for you.

That said, I think a few people are overestimating Abel's magical ability. Even if there are magical methods of physically altering ones gender on such a level that they gain the others reproductive traits, it is definately not a spell that a novice like Abel could pull off...much less in less than a few minutes. And as I said before, it's a serious business and not something taken lightly. Altering ones body-mass to give the appearance of jubblies is one thing, actually going female is a whole different league.

strong magic takes a very long time to master. i myself can not build / terraform a planted in a week dispute my characters many millenia of experience. still he discovered form a mortal named Yoh that to live a happy comfortable life was a worthy goal.

The other option is he's just covered all the ... odd classes, so he's done all the grass growing and paint drying classes, but hasn't done the "core" magic classes, etc.... So, technically, he's done more grades/points/courses/whatever they call them, and passed, than anyone else there.... but still hasn't got the same level of core competency that most of the other students have.
Reckon that might explain it? Although it's a fair bit different from his days in the Sunshine Gryphons, I'll admit...

Let's see - he did that freakish transformation of his, hid himself in a mirror, scryed a book and done the sword trick without batting an eyelid. He's also done two rounds of mental shield on Jyrras without cooking his brain (he had problems at first, maybe out of practice?). I'd say he has a pretty firm grasp of magic.
As for whether he can pull this one off, we'll hopefully find out in a few hours.
I don't do magic stuff (I prefer throwing tanks and guns at people, not fireballs), but those might be lower-level stuff.
Like those "light orb" spells that most RPGs with light conditions have.
The only thing that he did that was hard was that transformation of his own, but he said that took a long, long time of practice to hold down. He might still be having trouble with it, while others do it effortlessly (somebody want to hunt through the archives for examples?).

anything worth doing takes time to learn and even more to master. as old as i am still have much to learn and a lot of things that i have learned i need to master. i'm sure Abel is the same way as he has not shown any medical skill yet.

The disintegration of the higher education system is actually quite recent. Up until about '92 they used to pay
you to go to University. Tuition fees were introduced here around '97. Before then, the whole shebang was government-funded, since well-educated people tend to earn more and thus pay higher taxes.
Since Furrae does not appear to be a capitalist dystopia, it is quite reasonable to assume that the students do not have to pay - doubly so when they are press-ganged into it as Dan was. That said, I would still be curious to know how SAIA is funded. Vending machines don't come free, you know..

I'm pretty sure this is cubi magic we're talking about here, so magic training before saia wouldn't actually count. If you're 300 years old and still a novice, chances are it wasn't regular school that taught you everything.

Anywho Abel is 399 years old and the extent of his powerful magic is turning Dan to Daniella hmmmmmmmmmmmmm something up here I find it very strange how Abel is doing those classes like tennis and etc and have this kind of powerful spell in his repotire. I dosen't make sense and I suspect Abel is up to something in a very evil way..............................

Indeed. If he messes up the initial transformation (some flaw which isn't obvious yet, or the 'mirror' spell Llearch alluded to), Alexsi and Wildy and possibly Pyro will beat the hell out of him for ruining the plan.
If he can't get Dan back afterwards, Fa'lina is going to beat the hell out of him when Dan has his monthly visit to SAIA.
And he seems to owe Dan big, so deliberately ruining his life seems unlikely.

Would transformation magic be cubi magic? Would a race that can shapeshift naturally take the time to develop a powerful shapechanging spell? Seems kind of like fish going to swimming school. Particularly if this is the painful alternative to painless natural ability. To me this reads like something he would have learned at demon college before his breakthrough. But don't all these "skills" involve magic in the first place? There wouldn't be any need for them to be magical creatures if all their skills could be attributed to natural evolution.
There are many possible things that can go wrong with this scenario... and the fun part is trying to figure out which one it will be. ^^

But TW was this type of magic spell sort of a skill that can be used at a latter time in case if a Cubi lost the ability to shapeshift sort of an emergency spell to prevent of getting caught by someone. I think the college taught to all Cubi's as a mandatory spell to be learned before leaving the college and going to the outside world. I don't know when I saw Abel the very first time using that Powerful spell it made me suspicious of him.
"Hide myself as a tree" works well only if there's a lot of trees to hide in.
Transforming small rocks to trees so you can hide behind them is probably useful.

I am looking forward to seeing the effects this will have once Wildy and company actually retreive Alexsi. It is an ideal set-up for mistakes, sarcasm and general stupidity. Alexsi going on a hammer spree, Mab losing track of who is who, Wildy taking cheap shots, Biggs fondling up Dan...
The down side is, by then Amber will have been worn out, what with a massive long arc, etc etc.
.. so, we may end up missing out. More's the pity, because that lot sounds like fun...
You seem to misread me. Not only has Amber made the promise to write extra strips as a response to donations, but setting up a story arc like that would probably also be in her interest. A lot better getting some well-thought out drama and humor in than hasting to finish the arc and starting up with the next one. At least I for one am willing to wait it out, if it turns out good.
But then again, I would like to see some character development for Mab as well, since she has basically done nothing but been around as of yet. That, and blown her home up.
True maybe that's the next arc coming soon to DMFA who knows what's in the mind of the ALL POWERFULL AMBER *in loud booming voice*. Till then we will wait and see what develops.................
