Pride FTW.
Can't belly dance without a belly... : D
I bet she shows no shame of being part of that as well
I think she should be wearing a shirt.
Cause she's fat.
Well, remember that for some races, fat is good (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_101.php).
Also, love the Clan Quirk.
That actually ought to be a major advantage in a number of situations. :)
I just had a gut feeling that one of surviving clan leaders had an affinity for pride and no this is not meant as a pun; but as an honest statement! :mowwink
Curves of all sizes FTW!! :3

Hey now. In most countries, "fat" symbolizes wealth. I cannot get over the outfit of this character. I have high interests in Indian culture and Hinduism. Wings compliment the outfit too. But now- I am very curious to see what a wing with triple the tentacles would look like. *on just one wing* :B
Proof that you do not need a runway model's figure to have self-confidence.
Not surprising that her clan quirk is different and arguably "better" than everyone elses.
Oh hey!!!! the elephant from http://missmab.com/Comics/Ab_043.php (http://missmab.com/Comics/Ab_043.php) is part of clan piklak
Um... One word: Love.
The shape of her wings is unlike any I've seen yet, and that's pretty awesome.
Also, how haughty of her to only allow one new member per thousand years. Quite elitest and prideful, if you ask me. :O
Her fatness level totally doesn't bother me. As a 'Cubi, she can look however she wants and she's obviously proud of how she looks normally. If she can carry it well in her personality, I can dig on that for sure, and from her expression and her outfit, I'm guessing she can.

Warning: mild nudity and violence on other pages
Could maybe be a hyena... but I doubt it. Also, she's not muzzly enough for a bear or a hyena, I feel.
Now now there's nothing wrong with a girl n curves. I think she's great for not sticking to the Normal/thin to stick it really suits her. This does explain Amber's comment of the elephant lady being very vain too.
I don't like her, and its not a figure thing. I gust looked at her, started reading and my face looked like walter's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Dunham#Walter).
I'm guessing she takes great pride in winning the annual SAIA pie eating contest. :mowsmile

And if that max member restriction was ever removed, this has the potential to be the strongest clan... >_>

Considering

Good catch!
As for species, my vote goes towards the Ursine as well.
Slow and steady clan build up makes a stable growth that is hard to destroy. The extra wing tentacles seem to be a great offensive and possibly defensive ability. She makes her clan become exceptional with at least one thing. With all these things, this clan's survival chance would seem to be extremely high. Not to mention her clan members would have a chance of becoming known in history for some fantastic contribution to the world. Even though she has pride, it seems she does not lust after power. I would also say that with what she has going, it is understandable that she have pride in herself and her clan. Also I think she looks fantastic.

If there was, my favorite clan may swiftly change.
Considering the image of Piflak (http://www.missmab.com/Demo/Leader13.php) and the one from Abel's Story (http://missmab.com/Comics/Ab_043.php), I would say that members of this clan like to live large.
However, I would like to point out a few things.
Members of the clan have three times as many tentacles as they can handle without strain. That would indicate a lot of strain when using their tentacles.
Can you imagine Piflak finding out that a clan member received poor grades. I can just picture the response: "How dare you only get an A. Nothing less than Outstanding is acceptable in this clan."
Hmm...I wonder why she might kidnap composers or artists? Is she adding them to her collcetion, or is she sucking the talent out of them?
Also, I wonder what instrument she plays perfectly. My vote is those tiny finger cymbils. Would go with the outfit.
My two round pieces of copper metal:
Piflak's quirk is that they can manipulate more tentacles. This means that, not only do all clan members master playing a single type of instrument, they master playing multiple parts for that instrument AT THE SAME TIME! Question: How many Piflak cubi does it take to make a full orchestra?
Also, I wonder how old she was and thus how many members she had when she first achieved tri-wing status. I have nothing but respect for a clan that was able to slowly build its way up from possibly three or four individuals.

you've obviously never heard the expression "if you've got it, flaunt it"

Well I've heard of art collector's hoarding art.
But seriously? Artist's?
What does she have? A harem of them making art for her or does she make them stop making art and show them like art pieces?
She probably looks at artist's as if they where fruit. To young and they don't reach their full flavor, you have to pick them during or after their downward spiral.

Mostly, pride or not, why did she choose that shape together with that outfit? Maybe she and Kish'Ta are buddies?
As for "she isn't shy to hide her original body", I don't buy that. Being chubby is nothing you are born with and with the special metabolism of Cubi it's questionable if you
can get chubby by normal means at all.
Maybe among Cubi there are fashions about shape as we have about clothes and hairstyle? After all, if everyone looked perfect all the time, undoubtedly the world would become incredibly boring very soon...

The concept of "Beauty" differs from culture to culture. To make things more difficult, the "ideal" standards even change over time. It used to be that a voluptuous figure was ideal in the earlier 1900s, at least in western culture. Now, however, the ideal is a thin body with unrealistically heavy breasts. (All I know about the standards of beauty for men is that I don't have it.)

Absolutely no objection here. I'm sorry, really the last thing I wanted to do is to support the insane hype the media are putting upon it regarding the idea of beauty you just mentioned. I find it amusing that some japanese have brought that concept to its logical extreme and the result is something freakishly ugly.
But still, there are of course different standards of beauty, but there
are standards. And I think from almost all the other characters in the comic, we can get a pretty good idea of what "beauty" means in furrae. :)

The standard of beauty in a man is basically:
Six foot something
Golden brown tan/skin
Dark, short, styled and shiny hair
Clean shaven
Eyes of blue colour, a strong, proud face, straight and white teeth
"Toned body" not in the sense of being healthy thin with good muscle definition, but well defined EVERYTHING.

While I'm not a fan of the bigger ladies myself, I have to say there's nothing ugly about this clan leader at all. To say that she should cover up seems amusing to me. you know, it never fails to amuse me how shallow & distorted some folk's perceptions on a 'perfect' female form actually is..
while a normal person would wonder how this could be, being who i am, and somewhat cynical at best, i can only come up with one reason:

how is it shallow really?
i get it when someone goes for beauty over personality but beyond that, if we look at just the form, how is it shallow? if it is supposed to be their image of "perfect" ? or is it shallow because they HAVE an image of perfection?
and distorted, i get it when it becomes unhealthy (which it can in both directions for both genders. there are people turned on by people who should loose weight basicly to not die), but as long as it doesnt cause health problems, why is it distorted?
(if we're talking expectations however, then yeah, people might have a distorted expectation of themselves and others as to the physical form)
*Charline is not affected by notions of beauty; however, she finds the extra weight of this leader a useful diversion from her own evil ways!* She's plump because of all the Beings she's been eating! *points finger accusingly!* I, on the other paw, am thin and therefore have not eaten as many! Or... any! Yes, I haven't eaten any! That's why I'm thin! While SHE has clearly been gorging on Beings!
*evil grin* Yes, that distraction will do nicely... *goes off to empty an orphanage* >:9
I find myself having to giggle at all the comments that have been made from people implying that her having curves would make her a better bellydancer. :3
A dance is a dance, regardless of your size, and as long as you know the moves and have the grace, then it looks good. My teacher is stick thin, and she's beautiful to watch. Myself and my sister-in-law are both more weighty, and we're just as good dancers. I would never say we're better than her just because we have a belly where she doesn't, nor would I say that someone of Piflak's size is better than us just because her belly is bigger. What Piflak has here is a wonderful self-confidence for her chosen size. And I do say "chosen" because as it has already been mentioned before, a cubi can make themselves look like -anything-. It seems to me that she chose this form for reasons important to her, possibly because the area that she lives in sees body weight as a sign of wealth, or perhaps just because she really likes to turn people's heads by standing out.
Also, I'd have to throw my own vote towards ursine for her species. Everything about her just screams 'bear' to me, and if there's one thing I've noticed in Amber's art, it's that she usually portrays larger species of animal as larger characters *elephants, rhinos, cows, all of these when we've seen them in the comic have always been weighty* and a bear is most certainly a hefty animal.

I agree! As we say in my country, bones are for a dog - a man likes to have meat!

You can giggle at my preferences all you like. I find a dancer to be far, far more appealing if the body she's moving has some nice curves to it. Though I didn't make any comment about her ability as a belly dancer, merely that I felt her figure was perfect for it. Which is strictly personal preference.
You can make things that are, by technical definition, perfect and still have them not be liked. Conversely, you have things that are considered technically flawed and have them be widely popular. Technical ability has nothing to do with personal preferences. :3

An ass you can bounce quarters off of
You forgot "Independently wealthy" and "Drives a Mercedes 380SL".
The rest of that description fits James Bond.

Hey, I'm straight, don't even like the character or the movies and even I can say this with comfort: James Bond is sexy.. sexy man.

it seems funny that despite the initial disagreement back in the IRC i find myself agreeing with more and more of your opinions...
Although i prefer a somewhat more bottom-heavy look myself, i agree that this clan leader looks nice and well fit for the belly dancing.

You shouldn't say that out loud. Word on the street is that I'm a troll.

You mentioned the IRC, The IRC does not exist!
IRC? what IRC?
Also, I disagree with both of you, because I can. Though I do not mind a bit of meat on women in my eye it can get unattractive and painful to watch. Everyone has their own border on what is visually pleasurable and mine is different than yours. I did not see to need for this discussion to go on like this from the start, albeit I somewhat foresaw it after a few opinions where stated as indisputable facts, which they clearly are not.

Seriously? If you don't like it, don't say anything. Besides, a little fat always looks good, thick (aka pleasantly plump) is better than skin and bones.
Also, wow, there are some seriously picky people here.

One does come to mind: Rebecca "Becky" Cunningham of Talespin. Though Baloo was a bit pudgy...
The thing I love most about this clan leader isn't her figure, her obviously well-founded pride, or even the strong possibility that she is a bear, my favorite animal.
Its her hair. Its so wavy and shiny...you can just tell it feels like silk. Dear God I want me some hair like that. :X
Also, I wonder if it can be assumed by the bindi on her forehead that Piflak is married. :U

That it does.
Thin =/= Beautiful. There is not one definition of beautiful.
Anyone should be able to prance around shirtless and feel great about their person.
And as aforementioned (somewhere I'm too lazy to look & quote),
A bellydancer without a belly is a sad thing indeed. :)
This has been a stick-skinny girl who stands in extreme favor of ladies embracing their beautiful curves.
Over and then some. :heart :)

Hmm with the bear - it is kind of obvious now, but well, to me, raised on Soviet cartoons, a bear evokes more the role of a militionary or a peasant(ess), not an exotic looking hotty ...
Is an animal stereotype..
My first impression (species-wise) on seeing her was "Lioness", which does make a nice pun on the "Pride" affinity.
And speaking of pride, I think that if she has taken on her physique on purpose (same as she chose what outfit to wear), she is a very clever 'cubi. Her affinity and most nutritious emotion is pride, and she has found a way to provoke that emotion from others: "Oh my, look at how fat she is! I wouldn't be caught dead in that outfit, especially at her size! The shameless hussy! (etc.)" ... Those types of statements contain elements of self-pride (the virtues of temperance and modesty notwithstanding). Pride builds itself up, especially at the expense of tearing others down.
A clever 'cubi indeed. 8)

Regarding treatment of advertisements featuring "well endowed" women with Photoshop, I read that one of the European countries was seriously considering outlawing photoshop treatment of women in clothing ads, stating that it contributed to severe issues when women tried to approach an impossible standard.
