Yeah, people. Ever heard of "Linux" or other open source operation systems?
I used to have a iMac like that, but it died last year and it made me sad. D:
Now I have a Blue and White G3 with really pathetic innards. 384MB of RAM, OH GOD WHY?
I want to get at least a G4 so I can upgrade to OSX Tiger. I wonder if the G4 can take other sticks of RAM besides PC 100.

What I'm looking forward to is one of the new Intel Mac's so that I can load it with Parallels and then install Linux, Solaris, Windows (reluctantly), and an Amiga emulator (I have two Amigas so that I can legally use the copies of the ROM's.) I am now going to dig up my O'Reilly Windows Annoyances t-shirt and go to a computer club meeting.
I was once walking through a local college campus when a person asked me if I was the person she was supposed to meet. I told her I wasn't, but I was curious why she selected me out of all the people around. She told me she was told to look for a six foot geek.
Ooh spots! :giggle I think this is the new imac colour .. colours? .. pattern?
Pip mac seems a little dangerous to me as well.
If you really want to use one for a avatar, sweet talk Darkmoon. He drew all five fully and layered them into the comic. He might save one in a conveniently usable form for you if properly lauded.
I'll take the Dan one. Even if the Pip one instantly makes me think of "Patamon".
The Abel one looks like it has chicken pox...

This was from Slashdot, in a recent thread about the Windows port of the Safari browser, which originally shipped with a number of extremely dangerous bugs.
Mac: Hello, I'm a Mac...
PC: ...and I'm a PC.
Mac is looking through a small viewfinder, looking very absorbed
PC: Hey Mac.
Mac: Yeah?
PC: What are you doing?
Mac: I'm browsing the internet with Safari.
PC: I do the same thing with IE.
Mac: You should try Safari. It's fast, secure, and easy to use.
Mac hands the viewfinder to PC
PC: Oh, thanks.
PC looks into the viewfinder and keels over, dead
Mac shrugs

Ah well, I'll just be content to do as the tentacles command me.
One of he reasons is that Mac mice only one mouse button. One of my friends recently went into a long, eloquent, and LOUD monologue, expressed in so many ways, on just just how much he HATES MACS. One of the main focuses of his rant was the one mouse button problem. I almost couldn't stand because I was laughing so hard for about as long as he was ranting. I think it went on for at least a full five minutes.

"Right click."
The default Imac mouse still has one button, but you can click either side of it, to emulate a right-click. The "scroll wheel" is also a fully two-axis trackball, which constantly feels like it's in serious need of lubrication.(the movement feels sandpapery.)
Technically, you've always been able to right-click on a Mac. You just have to set your macros so that the RMB sends the "Command+click" signal to the
PC computer
My primary complaints against Mac are that they're obscenely expensive(ever heard of a $72 Mac? I THOUGHT NOT! Granted, the $72 PC is anemic, and has to run on DSLinux, off of a flash drive), you can't build it yourself(and thereby do your own maintenance, as I do), and it doesn't have the gaming library that the PC has. Even if you use emulation, you're losing loads of performance just for your compatability.

As long as it does what it's supposed to - It's fine by me. I like Mac's better for some things, PC's for others.
After all - :ipod, anyone?
And I believe holding down on the click was effectively a right click. At least that's how my iBook worked. But here I am, operating XP, now.
But you know what's really cool? Firefox.
Firefox very > IE.

No.
I'm not one of them, but I gather they exist. :-] FWIW, the three main reasons I prefer Firefox is stability (for me) and consistency, and performance.
Once it's open, it beats the pants off IE in my experience. Plus it's consistent in interface across all the many and varied platforms I run (citrix, locally on debian, on laptop on debian, on windows desktops, just as a quick starting list) and vastly more extendable, and then there's the number of activex bugs available for IE...
As you might guess, though, if you prefer to run it, that's fine by me. And, seriously, folks, the rabid fringe who run around screaming that "IE is going to die, use Firefox now!" are the rabid fringe, and labelled so for a reason. Reasonable folk will advise, then STFU when you decline. *shrug*

No, the most important part of gaming is the graphic power, and Mac graphics cards are limited compared to PCs. Standard on the Mac Pro is an 256MB GeForce 7300GT, which is lame for gaming. The equivalent for the PC is about $70. Better than Intel integrated graphics, but NOT what gamers want in a computer that starts at $2499... The only gaming card for the Macs is the Radeon X1900XT that is a $249 upgrade, and even that is blown away by the GeForce 8800GTS cards that are only available for PCs and start at $259 (after rebate) on Newegg.
Personally, I don't want to play full-screen games on my Mac. Or any computer at all. Nope, no downloading Psychonauts off GameTap for me! I hear the controls are awkward, and this might be so for any game. Screw joysticks. Those things are clunky.
For me, I'll stick with a simple MUSH or flash game. Or a game on a console. *hugs Psychonauts* My preeeciouuuussss.

1: game consoles hooked up to his TV
2: Firefox
I've seen porn made out of Firefox anthropomorphized; can IE or Safari make that boast?

I have one major reason for not switching to firefox. Besides not caring for it, I'm just too damn lazy to change to something else. ......Rule 34 just doesn't joke around, does it?
The only thing I REALLY dislike about IE is that I seem to get spammy toolbars. I only need 3 toolbars - the menu bar, the address bar (which includes a mod-able search engine in Firefox, Yay.), and a bar for tabs, that disappears when I only have one tab.
IE tried to do tabs - It only made the whole program worse.
And my copy of firefox was skinned in "iFox" at one point. It's pretty cool. ^^

I don't dislike it, I just don't see why it deserves all the praise it gets. Firefox is better than IE, but only marginally so. It has better security than IE, but since my PC at work has supremely paranoid security settings, the security holes in IE aren't really an issue there. Performance-wise, Safari wins - it loads webpages much faster than both Firefox and IE (and IMO it also
looks better), but on rare occations Safari has issues with making certain bits of code work properly, which I've never seen Firefox have any trouble with. So really, there's pros and cons to all three of them.
I use firefox because it's not shiet like IE. It actually knows what proper webcode is and can render it. IE is incapable of meeting webstandards.
I could use Opera (and have on occasion), but when it boils down to a choice, I go with Firefox.

The only thing holding them back is lack of drivers. Other than the fact that (in my opinion) all PCIe cards should support EFI (and totally drop the aging BIOS support. Stupid Microsoft stifling innovation), there is the OS-level drivers. Since Intel-based Macs are very similar to PCs, that's about the only thing that is stopping the new DX10 cards from running on OS X.

I mean no disrespect, but that's just not true. It was chronically broken until V7 - the PNG reader was about 6-8 years behind the rest of the world. If you've never seen it fail, it's either because you never realised that what you were seeing was broken, or because the sites you visited were deliberately stuck in the past because of IE. Probably a combination of the two.
Xze's new avatar is a good example. It is using alpha blending - the avatar I made for James a while ago did too. That was before IE7 came out I think, but I'd got to the point where I just couldn't bring myself to care about people using IE anymore.
Here's a quick example which I made just over a year ago:
In IE7 and basically every other browser apart from IE<7, you should have a circle fading out into the current forum background. On IE6 you will get a grey backdrop because alpha blending is broken. That more than anything else is what I hated about IE - it declared darkness the standard instead of fixing the lightbulb.
Of course, I could never get the thing to run on Linux either...
Er... Sorry, but I don't find PNG transparency to be a really pressing issue.
That red to background circle worked fine for me.

IE7 is still broken when it comes to webrendering. Just because most sites have found way to workaround the issues doesn't mean that the situation in fine. It just means that people are propagating a broken system.
Oh, and most people that go "IE works just fine for me," are still using IE6. Just fyi.
Or we don't do enough with it to see these errors everyone keeps going on about.
No, trust me, you don't have to do anything to see the errors IE experiences. Most of them are pretty basic. It's just that most websites, as I said above, have numerous workarounds going just to fix IEs issues.
Microsoft have promisedâ„¢ that they would comply to standards by IE8.

Oh I don't read the legal jargon part of those things. That never changes and it's always block of text. What I was refering to are the people who, when installing something, just click okay repeatedly until it goes away. Usually the google toolbar and such are ONE full page of the installation process so all it would take is three seconds of paying attention and poof No Toolbar.
This is me installing something...
*Opens program and install shield loads*
Blah blah thank you *clicks okay*
Blah blah stuff about program *clicks okay*
Blah blah legal stuff *clicks accept then okay*
Blah blah oh sunva... *Checks no on stupid toolbar then clicks okay*
blah blah done *clicks finish*
Considering I have ADD and I can notice this, someone would have to either be way too impatient, three years old, or an idiot to NOT notice when the full page of the install thing says GOOGLE TOOLBAR. God the things usually have Google's full logo which is BRIGHT FREAKING RAINBOW COLOURED LETTERS nobody with ADD can say they don't notice a bright colored freaking thing suddenly popping up on their screen.
I use Firefox because, I have to constantly go back and forth from Mac to PC, and it is nice to be able to have bookmarks synchronize back and forth from computer to computer, and have the same basic layout and setup on all computers I use.

Along with the fact they've defaced the PC with a wallpaper of Starcraft 2. They worship it every day at noon until it comes out. Ruins lunch, I don't want to think about Zergs and Terrans and how creepishly sexyish Kerrigan looks. And I don't typically those of my own gender sexy.
Did you just imply you don't care about starcraft 2?!?!

Not when forced upon me.
I'm more of a Warcraft girl myself... And only sparingly. I tend to suck vacuum-style when I play those kinda games. If I'm going to play strategy, Fire Emblem's more my style.

:rolleyes Behold the iMeep, as concocted horribly using a touch pad and paint.
8) But think of all the crud that has been written in the land of Microsoft, that has gone out to plague the world ...
( Not all of MS is bad, some is quite good. They just sometimes " Badge " inadaquete stuff as their own ... )
( Also what seems to be a seven year obselecence cycle can be a bit a bit of an issue ... )
I agree that we do over harp on MS at times considering how many of us still use their stuff regardless.
Also Kaskar. Why did you quote my post to say that? What you said had NOTHING to do with my post about the horrible iMeep.
8) Sorry about that ...
Brilliant IT consultant Kaskar strikes again

8) Sorry about that ... The point that has to be remembered is that software and such is often " badged "
from another source ... Brandnames become mere buzz words for sales ... The iMeep would be a good example
if it was a real product ...
Kaskar you... you... I REALLY don't know what to say anymore. You're like a kid with a peg board trying to fit the square peg in the round hole, and justifying why you're putting the square one in the round hole rather then admit you're wrong. I mean we go off topic in our discussions here, discussions do that. But you just seem to be talking to yourself in range of others.
And seriously WHY do you keep adding emotes INTO your quotes. When you quoted me you put a rolling eye emote in there. I didn't roll my eyes so why did you do that.
A quote is a way of pointing out something someone else said if I go

Durrr I r Kaskar me am stuff. *drools*
You didn't say that but through the wonders of quoting I've made it seem that you did. DON'T PUT WORDS IN OTHER PEOPLE'S MOUTHS!!! If you're going to quote then have some respect in it and do it right.

Take it up with the IRS. The CLADR tables fully depreciate most consumer electronics in five years under the GDS form of MACRS.
:rolleyes I apologise to all. Just something there hit a raw nerve on me ...
Let microsoft strike all the nerves it wants, rant to your hearts content. Like I said though, don't muck with the quotes.
I'm sorry, but I have no idea what people are talking about here. >_<
*Wishes that the random non-comic updates didn't get removed when the next comic gets added*
:mowmeep Is the new iMow going to be made in a similar way to the origional Mows in # 363 ?
I have a PC and a PSP which I download music to it from a Music site which I will not name for purposes of lawsuit and stuff and I have a brand spanking new Commodore 64.
BUt the PC rocks than the Mac if you know how to cannibilzed the inner workings and upgrade that puppy up then it will blow away Mac any day of the week.

They tend to end up in the bonus comics section.
Of course, that depends on Amber going out of her way to update the Bonus Comics section, and, honestly, she's not having a good enough month to get the time to do that... :-/
If you wait, eventually someone will post a link to it :-)
