Shouldn't he be holding an alien probe instead of a gun?  I mean, that's closer to what Microsoft has done and will continue to do....
Well, other than the microsoft logo there, there's nothing in it that links specifically to microsoft, especially since we're talking "PC" here and not "Windows".

Considering is says "Microsoft" at the bottom of the image that is on the forum and we all know who Apple is targeting.
1. Which is NOT an image made my apple.
2. Nobody cares who they're targeting, it's the generalization that's to be concerned with. The PC is the PC. You can't just relabel him as Microsoft just because "we know who Apple is targeting"

Yep, Macs still only have one mouse button, because the macs in question that my friend was ranting about were brand new(or at least they looked brand new)
Macs can have two mouse button. It's just that the only mac mouse with two buttons that i've seen has a scroll wheel/whatever that is too small for words.

Kenji

I always used a generic plug and play two button mouse on the mac I was using. Yay USB

Do they still have only one mouse button?

*remembers old joke*

"Name ONE thing that your PC can do that my Mac can't."
"Right click."

The default Imac mouse still has one button, but you can click either side of it, to emulate a right-click.  The "scroll wheel" is also a fully two-axis trackball, which constantly feels like it's in serious need of lubrication.(the movement feels sandpapery.)

Technically, you've always been able to right-click on a Mac.  You just have to set your macros so that the RMB sends the "Command+click" signal to the PC computer

My primary complaints against Mac are that they're obscenely expensive(ever heard of a $72 Mac?  I THOUGHT NOT!  Granted, the $72 PC is anemic, and has to run on DSLinux, off of a flash drive), you can't build it yourself(and thereby do your own maintenance, as I do), and it doesn't have the gaming library that the PC has.  Even if you use emulation, you're losing loads of performance just for your compatability.

As long as it does what it's supposed to - It's fine by me. I like Mac's better for some things, PC's for others.

After all -  :ipod, anyone?

And I believe holding down on the click was effectively a right click. At least that's how my iBook worked. But here I am, operating XP, now.

But you know what's really cool? Firefox.

Firefox very > IE.

Safari... well, that's like in-between... And Firefox is FREE!

bill

Windows version of Safari is apparently worse than IE. A monumental achievement.

No.

I'm not one of them, but I gather they exist. :-] FWIW, the three main reasons I prefer Firefox is stability (for me) and consistency, and performance.

Once it's open, it beats the pants off IE in my experience. Plus it's consistent in interface across all the many and varied platforms I run (citrix, locally on debian, on laptop on debian, on windows desktops, just as a quick starting list) and vastly more extendable, and then there's the number of activex bugs available for IE...

As you might guess, though, if you prefer to run it, that's fine by me. And, seriously, folks, the rabid fringe who run around screaming that "IE is going to die, use Firefox now!" are the rabid fringe, and labelled so for a reason. Reasonable folk will advise, then STFU when you decline. *shrug*

However....I looked over the specs of the higher end Macs, and wondered just why the gaming companies haven't taken advantage of that? I mean......holy frig! Macs are insanely powerful (if you make them that way).

THey could be the tr00 gaming rigs.

No, the most important part of gaming is the graphic power, and Mac graphics cards are limited compared to PCs.  Standard on the Mac Pro is an 256MB GeForce 7300GT, which is lame for gaming.  The equivalent for the PC is about $70.  Better than Intel integrated graphics, but NOT what gamers want in a computer that starts at $2499...  The only gaming card for the Macs is the Radeon X1900XT that is a $249 upgrade, and even that is blown away by the GeForce 8800GTS cards that are only available for PCs and start at $259 (after rebate) on Newegg.

Personally, I don't want to play full-screen games on my Mac. Or any computer at all. Nope, no downloading Psychonauts off GameTap for me! I hear the controls are awkward, and this might be so for any game. Screw joysticks. Those things are clunky.

For me, I'll stick with a simple MUSH or flash game. Or a game on a console. *hugs Psychonauts* My preeeciouuuussss.

My dad seems to think it's adware.  He's not the kind of person to get confused on this sort of thing.  He doesn't hate many things, but two things I'm fairly certain he absolutely loathes are...

1: game consoles hooked up to his TV
2: Firefox

I've seen porn made out of Firefox anthropomorphized; can IE or Safari make that boast?

Didn't think so.

Netrogo

I have one major reason for not switching to firefox. Besides not caring for it, I'm just too damn lazy to change to something else. Hell I'm still on normal MSN rather then switching to live messenger or the countless hundreds of other chat programs out there. I only got on AIM because half the people I meet at cons and junk all seem to be aim instead.

The only thing I REALLY dislike about IE is that I seem to get spammy toolbars. I only need 3 toolbars - the menu bar, the address bar (which includes a mod-able search engine in Firefox, Yay.), and a bar for tabs, that disappears when I only have one tab.

IE tried to do tabs - It only made the whole program worse.

And my copy of firefox was skinned in "iFox" at one point. It's pretty cool. ^^

Reminds me to download the Wikipedia search engine mod on my laptop...

I don't dislike it, I just don't see why it deserves all the praise it gets. Firefox is better than IE, but only marginally so. It has better security than IE, but since my PC at work has supremely paranoid security settings, the security holes in IE aren't really an issue there. Performance-wise, Safari wins - it loads webpages much faster than both Firefox and IE (and IMO it also looks better), but on rare occations Safari has issues with making certain bits of code work properly, which I've never seen Firefox have any trouble with. So really, there's pros and cons to all three of them.

Darkmoon

I use firefox because it's not shiet like IE. It actually knows what proper webcode is and can render it. IE is incapable of meeting webstandards.

I could use Opera (and have on occasion), but when it boils down to a choice, I go with Firefox.

The only thing holding them back is lack of drivers.  Other than the fact that (in my opinion) all PCIe cards should support EFI (and totally drop the aging BIOS support.  Stupid Microsoft stifling innovation), there is the OS-level drivers.  Since Intel-based Macs are very similar to PCs, that's about the only thing that is stopping the new DX10 cards from running on OS X.
Get out of my mind, idea!  I already have an idea in here!
Don't you hate it when you have an idea, don't write it down, and forget it?

Wow I must be one of the only people who has no problems with IE. The new tabs feature works great and I use it all the time. I never get spammy toolbars because whenever I go anywhere or install anything I actually READ what it says rather then just hitting okay until it goes away.

I mean no disrespect, but that's just not true.  It was chronically broken until V7 - the PNG reader was about 6-8 years behind the rest of the world.  If you've never seen it fail, it's either because you never realised that what you were seeing was broken, or because the sites you visited were deliberately stuck in the past because of IE. Probably a combination of the two.

Xze's new avatar is a good example.  It is using alpha blending - the avatar I made for James a while ago did too.  That was before IE7 came out I think, but I'd got to the point where I just couldn't bring myself to care about people using IE anymore.

Here's a quick example which I made just over a year ago:

In IE7 and basically every other browser apart from IE<7, you should have a circle fading out into the current forum background.  On IE6 you will get a grey backdrop because alpha blending is broken.  That more than anything else is what I hated about IE - it declared darkness the standard instead of fixing the lightbulb.
Of course, I could never get the thing to run on Linux either...

Er... Sorry, but I don't find PNG transparency to be a really pressing issue.

In the grand scheme of things, no.  But it's the quickest and easiest to demonstrate.  And it is still inexcusable that it took IE that many years to catch up with every other browser.

**EDIT**
For some reason I forgot to include it inline  :rolleyes

IE7 is still broken when it comes to webrendering. Just because most sites have found way to workaround the issues doesn't mean that the situation in fine. It just means that people are propagating a broken system.

Oh, and most people that go "IE works just fine for me," are still using IE6. Just fyi.

Darkmoon

No, trust me, you don't have to do anything to see the errors IE experiences. Most of them are pretty basic. It's just that most websites, as I said above, have numerous workarounds going just to fix IEs issues.
