There's a Game in this Book: Current Updates

Right now we're coming down from the rush of the Kickstarter... but that should only take an evening. After that, we're all business.

If you wander over to the Dodeca-System website (http://www.cobaltpulsar.com/dodeca/) you will find information on There's a Game in this Book, its companions, and the various other projects in development (most of them planned for sometime next year). The big news for the Dodeca-System website is that we'll be releasing open-source rules for the Dodeca-System, allowing anyone to create their own game world (and their own system). The rules will be released under the Creative Commons (we're still picking all the options there, but expect it to be a non-commercial license at the minimum).

Meanwhile, we've also put up this forum. Why would we need a forum? Well, aside from getting feedback from all of you once you get your books in your hands, we'll also invite everyone to share their own Dodeca-System-created RPG worlds at the forum (because if we're going to release open-source rules, we want to see what you come up with).

Best of all, we plan to institute an incentive-based system. If what you develop is something we'd like to take and develop further, we'll give you money for your awesome ideas! (Details will be posted on the Dodeca-System site once we have the open-source rules published).

But, for now, we're getting everything ready to send off to the printers. Once the books off and running, we're going to do one last pass over the expansions and we'll start releasing the digital copies of the books and expansions within the coming weeks. These will come out once a week if all goes to plan, with a tentative schedule of:

    June 8: There's a Game in this Book (and Expansions) for the $5 and $20 tiers.
    June 15: Now What? (and Expansions) for the $40 tiers.
    June 22: Monsters! (and Expansions) for the $60 tiers.

We'll keep you informed if any proposed deadline get pushed back, but we'll try our hardest to stick to that schedule.

Meanwhile, There's a Soundtrack for this Game is coming along nicely. The composer has seven of the tracks near perfection, so we should easily be able to meet the original July deadline for that part of the project.

Again, as we have more details, we'll keep everyone informed.

We sent off all the materials today -- books, bag, posters... everything. This will hopefully give the publishers plenty of time to get the books (etc.) printed and sent to us, and more time still so we can run QA on the materials to make sure everything looks right before we send them out.

We're dead set on trying to make our July 15 deadline. That;s our goal and, for now, we're not budging. So far so good.

In other news, we also took the time to put together the digital materials. Our editor is going over the last of the expansions for the first book now and once he signs off on all of it we'll start shipping digital content (so everyone can get their books as soon as possible).

The main e-books will come with a color version of the front cover from the books included in the PDF (the back cover, though, is not included). These are full editions, ready and waiting once the expansions are done.

So, yeah, we still have plenty of writing to do. You guys unlocked a lot of content with how much you pledged, and that just means we'll be working for a while even though the kickstarter is over and the books are at the printer.

That's not a bad thing. This is the kind of "problem" we want to have. Now we just have to buckle down in the next couple of weeks and finish the last little bits.

So, first of all, here's where we are with publishing:

The three books are in final proof approval. The books have had to go through adjustments to ensure they fit the proper printing margins (for the gluing). We're waiting on the final version of the proofs to ensure everything looks right, and then we'll sign off and the book will be run off.

The screens have been approved, signed off on, and are actively printing now.

The dice bags and canvas bags are, far as we know, printing now. That particular printer is as communicative, but they received the final versions of the logos, so we think they're being run off now.

Meanwhile, we've sent out the second batch of e-books. This includes Now What? and its first two expansions. Here's our current e-publishing schedule:
