I went out with some friends last night, got a wee bit smashed, and when I got back I wanted to do something impressionistic, because I remember reading that Chinese art was traditionally super duper impressionistic and stuff. So here we go!

Hey nice lotus, though I think it would look better if it was a lighter shade of pink on the tips and the base was lighter than the tips of the petals. Also what time of the day is this taking place? I thought it was early morning or late at night due to what seems to be a light source on the right of the picture. The clothing design is quite well done, and the shading is excellent. However it doesn't seem to have quite the nice effect in the bottom right corner because now I can't tell if the boat is moored or not

Personally, I like the color of a harsh red against a moody purple like that, it gives the eye somewhere to travel along the canvas. I'm not too sure of the specifics of this, it's a rather impressionistic thing I did when I was a little on the drunk side, so much of the piece is really up to the viewer to interpret.

I was feeling a little tired and blah today, so what better way to pass the time than by drawing cute pets? This is Fluffy, and I think he needs to go for walkies or something. He looks like he needs to go - and bad. What's that, Fluffy? Kisses? After you've had your walk.
I don't really draw monsterish things very often, so hey. It was a lot of fun.

Someday, when we look back on this, we'll both laugh nervously and change the subject. More is good. All is better.

Wow, that was a fun one. I've never drawn action before, nor have I ever drawn a nightmarish monster creature from Beyond, so it was a challenge. But it was a fun challenge!

Much love for the action picture :mowhappy For a first time this is awesome, one can feel the dynamics. Do more  :)

Right, here's some critique.  An impression I've had from your artwork - and it may be incorrect - is that you tend to default to a mouse-like muzzle.  The first Hussar picture was a good step away from that and the second picture really improves on it.
However, with Dymkarra, if I could make one suggestion, it would be to lengthen the muzzle face to give a more equine look to him.

I realise it's a little late now, but that's critique for you :P   Hope it helps.

Quoted for truth.

What jumps out at me are the nostrils, which are round and kinda forward facing on a horse, and the cheeks and jawline, which on most horses are very sharply defined.

The ears look more like triangular canine ones than a horse's round and upright ears, but that might be in part because his hair is covering the base of the ear.

I gotta say, I love the fine gold lines on his shirt. Very elegant, very refined.

On an anatomical note, both of his sternocleidomastoids (gawd, what a mouthful...) are shaded in. When a person turns their head like that, the far muscle ends up behind the throat, out of sight. Fhe forward edge of the neck is defined by the throat, which slopes forward to meet the chin.

I've been doing a fair bit practice on horses recently... if you want, I could do a redline with a few suggestions.

Thank you all very much for your help :) I'm doing a little to fix it right now. After all, giftart needs to be good quality.

Red lining will not be necessary, but thank you for the gesture.

Yeah, that's better.  I'd perhaps have made it longer still myself, but you're about on par with Dark Pegasus and there isn't much more canvas to extend it onto anyway :3

Thank you for your help to improve that image :) I do see that it looks much better than it did. Though honestly, I don't like making muzzles too long - too long, and it's hard to make them look... 'human', for want of a better term. The closer the mouth is to the eyes, the easier time I have with facial expressions - though this could simply be my immaturity and inexperience as an artist!

Thank you so much! The coloring is a lot of fun, I love playing around with all of Photoshop's brushes and stuff!

Ya, that's definitely more dark! :B

I'd like to play around with the different brushes too, but I'm always so scared of anything I try to shade..

I'm familiar with that feeling - you just have to tell yourself "Okay, thanks for warning me, now let's move on" - doing the really dark contrasty shadows always scared me, but when I actually put them in they look so cool!

I herd a story from a TA when I was at college...

A professor hands out an assignment: make a painting, and spend at least 8-9 hours on it.

Next week, everyone comes in with their paintings. The professor looks them over, and says "Good."

Then he starts handing out X-acto blades. "Now, destroy them."

Understandably, the students were much alarmed. "But, we put a lot of work into these!" they lamented.

"So?" Says the professor. "They're paintings. You've made them before, you'll make more in the future. In the grand scheme of things, a single painting is just one painting. If it's so precious that you're afraid of destroying it, you won't be able to take risks, won't be able to experiment, and probably won't even be able to finish anything for fear of screwing it up. It's best get over that sense of attachment as soon as possible, so lets destroy these paintings already."

It made an impression on me.

A fun little doodle done in the airport and on the plane while some bratty kid was kicking the back of my seat and her parents were encouraging her. Thank god for noise cancelling headphones.

I'm always a sucker for winter landscapes. :3

But what's this about the kids parents ENCOURAGING their kid to kick other seats? People are losing all respect for anyone else these days. Sadly, I'm becoming less and less surprised every day and get getting more irritated at how irrational people can be.

WhiteFox

The tree on the lower right gives me the impression of focal blurr. I love it, it adds a lot of depth.

I, too, am a sucker for winter landscapes. And limited colour pallet.

Thanks very much, this turned out awesome.  I particularly like the highlights on Keaton and her clothing.
