I believed she intended it to be a fig. Thus matching Mink's statement of "Go fig!" Perhaps even implying that he interpreted the entire question as to what sort of fruit he prefers, instead of what it actually meant, and is saying that he prefers figs over dates. The joke of course being in that his words can be interpreted as an answer to the original question anyway.
