That, my friends, used to be a three-story building at the intersection of two streets in Guatemala City. Remember that scene in 2012 where San Fran falls into one giant sinkhole? Yeah.

I'm getting vertigo just looking at the thing...

And this was just with the first hurricane of the season. Honestly, I'm worried about Central America/the Gulf of Mexico what with all the crap happening nowadays around it...

I think that tunnel would pop out smack dab in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

I'm waiting for angry mole-men to attack Guatemala now, though.

How is that "worse?"

A dread realization began to form in my mind upon receipt of these revelations.  The visitation of dreams on the psychically sensitive could not be mere chance, but must instead be part of some far greater visitation by a being alien to our world and physiology.  That this being must have supreme vatic abilities, and need not even be of the cyclopean sizes that appear in the dreamers' visions.  Even from the snatches of the Regnery translation, it is clear that this vision was seen thousands of years ago.  I remembered Emperor O'Keefe's proclamation, ``None shall live who declare `Palin fhtagn!'  Any who say this shall be put to death.''

Well, we could try throwing Obama, Pelosi, and Reid down the hole, but they'd only be puked back up. Even the Earth has the sense to stay away from those fools.

And here I'm thinking that technically, this could be really useful. The city has a pocket to keep things in now. Rebuild that same building in that spot (albiet larger, so as not to fall in again) and it'll be just the same as before, except with a way cooler basement.

Actually, the first thing that came to my mind is that life can provide enough worries as we travel through it without wondering if one of those is underneath your home, just waiting to open up.

Speak for yourself.  I'd much rather die than spend eternity slowly getting more and more decrepit and begging for the pain to stop.

Depends on if you got "eternal youth and health" thrown in with that "eternal life". If not, then yeah... That'd just suck...

Technology, man - after some years you would be able to replace with cybernetic parts... perhaps in an army project - i think an operative that doesn't die would be interesting.
(otherwise the eternal youth and health would have to be thrown in as the old-age symptoms do lead to body failure eventually)

That just raises further questions!

For example, if an immortal man were given a bionic arm to replace a damaged one, what would his still-living amputated arm feel?  I will grant you that it would be immensely cool if you still retained control over your detached limbs, though.

:O I used to have nightmares like this when I was little!

Where did that 9,688 m^3 (342,119 ft^3) of stuff go!? It looks like it opens up into an even larger chasm at the bottom of the hole.

Actually that hole seems like it might be worse:

So wait... did they carve the sewage piping straight out of the pumice-fill etc? Either way, I'm kinda glad I don't live in Guatemala right around now.

Bah, you're all putting her in the wrong hole .... this is where she'd go :

Yes, that is two people at the edge of the crater.
And yes, there is indeed fire in that hole.
And finally, yes, it is real!

Yes, that's an interesting one.  Here's more information about it:
