Okay, so he didn't intend to kebab Jakob, instead he's warding off two Priests.  Because them some dangerous Priests.

Any particular reason these two look alike, maybe a religious uncle training his nephew to be a member of the cloth?  

"What has happened here, my Evil son?" <- That was a line I would expect from Daryil to Jakob for some reason....neither one of them is actually Daryil in disguise, right?

They're not really supposed to be related, no, but the younger one is a novice and the older priest is his mentor.

No, though as things progress you may find that harder to believe.

Yeah.  In Dr. Who (at least circa 1976) and similar films and shows, the villain always has black leather gloves.  This is my homage to that

Yep, I remember watching the news reports of him trying to put on the gloves.  If you remember, the white liner gloves they had him put on, he didn't pull them on all the way.
