Cave Disaster - HDWT game

While working on stuff for the DND webcast I ended up building some sprites of the characters from HDWT, based off of the cave story style. Thinking of putting together a little side scroller, Anyone care to recommend a decent program with some kind of gui to build a game with?

Work has been progressing suprisingly well, my little demo actually resembles a sidescroller now!

Think i have most of the sprites i will be needing for most of the work, guess i'll add on where it becomes obvious i'll need it. planing to use 32x32 pixel tiles for maps. Hopefully this will work out well, may seek some help cleaning up some of the sprite sheets, too many colors and all...
