Now, that would be interesting. Oh, to be a fly on the wall at that meeting...
Didn't Amber say something about Abel not going to meet Devin?

Who's said anything about Devin? I was talking about Kria...

Poor Dan...I mean, that Thief of a demon! She wasn't even polite enough to give him his hat back. 'Course, she probably didn't know it was his. But he didn't even ask for it. I'd want a hat like that back.

I still say that's a front.  Clueless people tend not to become renown adventurers.
Ummm, perhaps he's a savant? Clueless about everything, except adventuring. Gah, probably not. But if he is just acting stupid, he's a really good actor! Actually, on third thought, even his own mother thinks he's a little slow. Dang, that must hurt.

I stand (sit) corrected. The words "old friend" automatically made me think of Devin. Kria would be more of an "old acquaintance" (dang, that word is hard to spell right). Of course, when I think about it, Devin wasn't really a friend either, was he? More like a non-lethal enemy.

(Warning: rampant speculation follows!)
Anyway, if I remember correctly about Amber saying that Abel was not going to meet Devin, then the dinner is going to be at some restaurant. Because there's no frikkin' way Dan's going to visit the Soulstealer's again without a bodyguard. Which most probably would be Abel. Pyroduck might be a better choice, but Abel's not going to accept that. And if Abel tags along, then he would be bound to meet Devin at Kria's spooky mansion. So, a restaurant, then.

I recommend a nice Chianti.

I think part of what makes panel 2 so awesome is Dan's hair, the way it's set so it looks so in-motion like that.  Amber's gotten lots better over time at making hair that actually looks like Hair and the past couple of strips have let her show that skill off.

As for what Kria's up to?  Devious mischief for her own entertainment gets my vote.   :giggle

I would say that Dan's entire reaction in this page means that he's clueless.
I still say that's a front.  Clueless people tend not to become renown adventurers.

Remember that Dan is the main character of this comic.  The humor potential is largest if he is clueless, and Amber beats herself up if there is not a punchline every comic.

Also, the characters' personalities evolve veeeeerrrrryyy slloooooooowwwwlly in this comic.

QuoteThis can only lead to "hilarity". No, wait, scratch that. Leading to a vein of awkward could be a possibility too. Just what is Kria planning at with all this?
Previously the awkward was that Kria would catch Dan with Matilda.  Now things can get a bit weird if she catches Dan with Lorenda, while Kria is trying to force the lie for some unknown reason.

Kria is doing this to teach her daughter that Mommy can't be fooled.  Kria will try to extract as much embarrassment and awkwardness out of Lorenda pretending to be Dan's boyfriend.

However, no doubt Fa'Lina has heard by now that Dan was hurt severely recently and will order Abel to keep a better watch on him, especially around the Soulstealers. She probably got word from Cyra herself.  :batman
I'm not sure he knows that Kria was involved in any of it.  Last I saw he didn't seem to know Lorenda's last name, or that she was related to Kria.  If it was Lorenda who brought him back alone, he may not be aware of it.
Dan does know about Lorenda's family now, but the question was about Fa'Lina.  Can you clarify your answer?

I'm not sure Abel [who the question is really about, since he carries out Fa'Lina's will] knows that Kria was involved in any of it.  Last I saw he [Abel] didn't seem to know Lorenda's last name, or that she was related to Kria.  If it was Lorenda who brought him [Dan] back alone, he [Abel] may not be aware of it.

...does that help?

From what I see, Abel hasn't yet made the connection between Lorenda and Kria; he may have picked up something from Jyrras' when he read his mind about 'that cow girl'. In the history of the comic though, Kria herself has yet to make an actual appearance at Lost Lake. One could infer from the aftermath of Dan's latest run-in with DP, Lorenda alone accompanied him back to the Inn, but since this took place 'off camera', nobody knows for sure.

Yes, that's basically what I was trying to say.  Though I think you've done a much better job of explaining it.

Registered just to ask this.

Judging by Kria's history when she found out her husband was cheating on her, anyone else think that Amber might throw an evil curveball and have roasted taur as the main course on thursday?
How would you roast a taur? I mean she used to live in the Blue Fire Volcano. But according to the strip you're reffering to she would eat Dan, Matilda, and everyone in the Lost Lake Inn (or at least try to get Lorenda to do it).

She could just claim that it's roast taur.  That would certainly add to the anxiety.

You've all got to admit that it probably gets very interesting when demon family gets together and one of your kids brings someone that another family member thinks as a snack.

Scaring little Kangaroo rat's so they don't make the mistake of ranting of to another demon that will make him into a snack, following in on a daughters lie so she can protect friends without upsetting family business while no ones the wiser, and having all the fun she can get out of it.

I'm kind of wondering what Kria would do if she met Abel. Her marriage escort service might sound like she's trying in her own way to stop tragedies like Abel and mat suffered, so Abel and may might not be very far from her mind. So do you think  a meeting might be as dry as Fa'lina's meeting with Kria until his back is turned and she gives a bone crushing hug with a in coming noogie or will the reaction be different then that?

Abel: Kria!!!

Kria: Abel!!!

Lorenda: Dan!!!

Dan: Lorenda!!!

I'm sure Kria has one or two on the side.

But as a lover on the side, or as a side dish?     :U

After all, she is that kind of woman.  :erk

So you think think she might not be into looking into a long term relationship?

I guess if what Lorenda's dad did left that much of a bad impression she might think long term and singal relationships might not be for her.

Well I don't mean everybody, but she could decide to punish Lorenda for telling a fib and toss it out as, "Hey I took out your competition."

From Kria's own words, she likes her men flexible, which in her case could mean for dinner, or FOR dinner...Either way, from the look on Dan's face, he's having none of it.

Hrm, I wonder - Does the extra fat Kria put on her hips after eating Lorenda's father constitute as a "longterm relationship" or did she just work it off in the local gym ?

And is all this talk backed up by actual thought on the subject ?

I'm willing to bet that Kira will see how far she can push this without Dan catching on.

Not to burst your bubble here... but since Dan's an adventurer, couldn't Kria refute that whole "evil harem/evil Cubi" thing? Not to mention Dan's been thwarting DP (Kria's evil brother) from enacting his schemes three times now.

Then again, Dan could just be building a regular harem... to which Kria would more than likely try to get in herself >:3

Has anybody considered the idea that Kria may have also invited Destania, and is warning Dan about trying to fool her.  (However, Destania has been very good at fooling Dan.)

Also, I haven't seen anybody mention the real reason that a magic hat is truly appropriate for Dan

I've asked a number of times and can't recall an answer one way or another... Where do we have proof that Kria was ever married? Sure, he was Lorenda's father, but nowhere have I seen anything to indicate he was Kria's husband, unless you assume that children don't happen without marriage.

It was a common-law marriage.

It was a common-law marriage.

Considering that possibility would depend on the society's views on such. How long were they actually together? Decades ago (I don't know what it is currently) I had heard that 7 years cohabitation constituted common-law marriage. Though more recently I think I've heard that telling people you're married can put it into effect too.

My first thought was that Kria had indeed known all along, but if that was the case, why did she immediately switch from 'hands off' to 'break it up' back in #984? Presumably because it gave her an excuse to do what she wanted to do anyway, but why would she need an excuse?

And just now as I asked that question, an answer occurred to me: she could help her brother and still have an explanation for why she didn't kill Dan in the process. An explanation which would annoy also him no end.

Still, it seems just as plausible, and just as useful for story purposes, that she was fooled because it was what she wanted to believe anyway. And she only wised up after Aliph left.
