This page cracked me up.  :) I love Jakob's expression in that last panel.

Edit: And by this page I mean 106, not 105. Yay for jumping the gun...

Hehe. Thats -one- way of getting clean!

How much does one of these android bodies weigh?

The inside of most washing machines, be they front or top loaded, is nothing more than a cylindrical tub on a spindle made of rather thin metal.  It can only take so much weight before breaking apart.

I don't think even a normal adult human can stand inside a washing machine without breaking it in some way, but I'd have to look up that one episode of Mythbusters when they tested something similar to be sure.

Ah yes, the "man gets stuck trying to stomp laundry into machine and gets spun around knocking baking soda everywhere and the dog pees on it and causes an explosion" myth. Calling that episode to mind, I think it's just that the weight of a human is enough to stop it, because they hardly have any torque, not necessarily breaking it. However, Jakob might have a collection of large canvas sails that require laundering, and thus has need for an industrial-sized washing machine.

Yeah, it's one of these silly little things I threw in to see if anyone would recognise it, like the synthesizers and compressors in the room Dorcan woke up in.

Slightly more than a regular Being of his build.  Jay has it, though.  The base is large enough that - if it were fully populated - it would need a small industrial washing machine.  It's not a domestic one.

Yes, Ren really did a good job there.

And whoops, Spooks has shot to the top of the thread, sorry Robbie.  I guess I didn't think that through properly  :P

One of the main reasons I read your comic! ^_^

That was... surprising, to say the least, seeing my title and Spooks name when I saw it in the topic list.
After reading though, its perfectly understandable -  he -did- get first after all(I saw Spooks's topic, but I didn't think it was about #106 - Oh well).

Heh.  Spooks is a 'she' actually.  She's offered to draw the upcoming backstory.  Which sadly will not be Azrael's story as I've hit some serious writers' block with it.

Hoping she doesn't mind, the example she sent me was this:

Quite what Amber will make of this, I dread to think  :B

I looked it up on Wiki a few months back when I was re-reading the story version. <cackle>

Fun fact: The first few pages of this chapter were written on the flight to Anthrocon 2007.  My laptop battery was dead so they were scrawled in my sketchbook.  This made for some interesting reactions when people flicked through it.

and I DO so like Jakob's expression in the second to last panel.  >:3

If Dorcan was catching up with the industrial revolution and thrown into an android body I can almost understand his question and actions.

... But seriously it would be easier to take a shower or a bath.
I am thinking that Daryil was pushing for this outcome.

Yes, I do post just to see my own words on the screen.

If anyone is interested, we now have an extra button on the front page of the comic.  Just below the word 'Archive'.

So they're made of lightweight material?  I suppose it saves on wear and tear of the joints.

Jakob's expression in the bottom left and right panels, quite irritated he is.

Interesting. I spose that means Dorcan is IP-68DM compliant. I wonder if he meets IP69K...

A lot of effort went in to keeping the weight reasonable.  The idea is that someone should be able to pick up their old life from where they left off, which is going to be awkward if they now weigh a quarter of a metric ton.  If you were to put Josh or Dorcan on a set of scales they would be a bit overweight, but still within the usual parameters for a Being.

So they could brush it off with "I've got big bones" ? ;-]

Dorcan could point out that muscle weighs a lot, I'm not sure about Josh  :3

Though lightweight, the material used is still very strong and durable, something stronger than titanium perhaps?

Well Titanium is a strong metal but it is a metal none the less, but it is not some ultimate metal.  If you have a titanium knife the edge dulls faster than a steel knife but you do not have to even worry about rust or corrosion.
Ceramics and fiber compounds are lighter and stronger (in come cases) but do not flex as much.
There is even a substance called Liquidmetal... I just threw that in for thought.
In addition who knows what synthetic elements or alloys they can come up with.  I mean they have androids for Sci-fi sake.

I'm currently colouring the comic.  It was a bit of a fiddle for Ren to complete, I'm not 100% sure I'll be able to finish it tonight but I'll try.  Originally it was intended that part of this should be done by a guest artist but that doesn't seem to have panned out.  As and when it becomes available in full form, I'll upgrade it and post a note on the rant.
