And besides all that, this is only cubi 101... Even IF she was actually teaching cubi and not us humble beings about it, she'd probably hide them from anything unpleasant until it would become something a bit more regular for a cubi to witness or do. Given the fatality rate as described by Fa'Lina, I'd wager this would be one of the last things you try to learn at SAIA...

AH yes Censored for the Baby 'Cubus that is anyone under a 1000 years.

But I love the fan-service of a full wings out, chest out, over protective and panicy Fa'line in the last panel.

The mind-reading/probing skill of the cubi seem to said that Cubus can't have a mind shield on and mind read at the same time.  A special mind shield (in other Psion sci-fi) could be use to protect the Self, the mind of the mindreader from being swamp by the mind of a unskilled being.

I think she was lying through her teeth about how difficult it was -- it's actually something that cubi do routinely.

Probably still a learned skill, though.

Was that Biggs being mind-bleeped?

and yet humans can witness more violence and gore at a PG13 movie ...but if it has one curse word it gets bumped up to rated R. let's see the last PG13 movie I saw had  about  56 deaths, very cleverly executed. Rated R films have at least one gratuitous sex scene and anywhere from 176 or more deaths, the exception to this being "Passion of the Christ" which now has a friendly PG 13 label on video, how Mel Gibson accomplished this I don't know.

If a Cubi tries to read a mind under duress, what happens ? The mind would react with a self - defense system . If it was too bad , the Cubi mind may be entangled inside , and no longer be able to come out .

Any Cubi who has the ability to read minds likely has thousands of years under their belt...and as such would be able to field most problems. Or at the very least, be smart enough to know better than to go into something that is considered too dangerous.

No. There has to be something more to that, other than that the scene is gruesome and gorish. I may not believe that of Amber and her censorship, but I believe it of Fa'Lina. Sometimes characters have their own meaning with things. >:]

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. And sometimes a page is just Amber's excuse to not draw details and draw Fa'Lina boobs instead. :3

*the camera is disconnected as Charline's wing tentacles surround the poor human, but the audio isn't shut down quickly enough and a blood-curdling scream of utter agony is heard!*

Sadly, I highly doubt Charline would be skilled or powerful enough to properly do mind-reading.  She lacks the proper control and reserve.  That and despite the heavy pain and difficulty, most Cubi who do mind reading actually don't want to damage or kill their subjects.  As mentioned, it's a move usually done only by the desperate when other methods have failed.

Fa'Lina has never lied.  She is incapable of it.  And while she might be able to stretch things into half-truths...there is no point of me making a Demonology 101 article that is based on misinformation.

In this particular case, one might do better not to think of it as Fa'Lina giving lectures.

I for one am relieved that the 'cubi guide did not go into soul-stealing.  While technical data on how stealing and consuming souls works would be useful, it's something I do not wish to see.

Quote from: GabrielsThoughts on March 29, 2007, 06:44:42 PMSome people believe you don't have a soul, but rather that you are a living soul...

The DMFA universe supports resurrection and noncorporeal modes of existence.  For example: DP's attempts to resurrect the Dark God, Dan as a ghost, the undead, and the fact that Aary was able to trap an adventurer's spirit inside an artifact (Abel also said Dan might do that to Jyrras if he got mad at him so it's pretty common).

While I'm partial to the Peter F Hamilton idea that the soul is the personality data encoded in an energy matrix as a natural part of the way the universe works, it's Amber's call, not mine - and I do believe she said she wasn't going to specify exactly how souls worked.

But I digress.  I'm a bit more interested in how the spells are invoked and what their effects are.  It has been mooted that when 'Cubi 'eat' souls they are actually binding them to themselves rather than destroying them outright.  I'm trying to avoid committing myself one way or the other in my writings, and trying to fudge the issue with the fact that the protagonist might not know exactly how it works anyway >:3

I heard the real reason Dan came back to life was from eating Lorenda and Jyrras's child. :<

I dunno if it would be that gory; it's essentially a drill, all we'd see is perhaps the wound dripping a bit. Then again, head wounds bleed a lot, so mebbe more than a bit. Either way, I think what she's worried about is less gory and more of a threat to sanity. Or perhaps she knew that being, and that was the memory being accessed. The being did seem to be looking at her face in her private little panal with what could only be called a "why?" expression on his face.

Good point.  Mind reading is probably more a 300-level course, which we haven't paid for.  I'll bet even Dr. Ink is afraid of the bursar.

.....holy s**t, I called up two windows, put one to the comic you pointed out superluser, and the other to the cubi page five, and compared them. They DO look exactly alike! well, granted the one in the cubi page is extreamly pale, but that is perfectly understandable. Either way, that is still HOLY S**T!
