We have a few people here who like Deus Ex, so I figured people might want to see this.

As some may know, I have a sideline of writing twisted walkthroughs, collecting bugs for games and such stuff.  Today, I've finally got the new (fourth) Deus Ex page up.  Some of this has already been seen in the 'Random Screenshots' thread, but here it is in its entirety.

http://www.it-he.org/deus4.htm  (direct link - see sig for main site)

...thanks to Bill for some of the new ideas on dealing with Maggie.

I've been doing a few crazy things in Deus Ex recently, and managed to snap a credits shot I found amusing.

Also, the voice actor for the Red Arrow Triad officials in the Lucky Money also did the voices for the Luminous Path Market Triads.

Yeah, that was part of my 'black helicopter merge' thing.  I don't think the helicopter ever says anything  >:3

:P

I also reccomend examination of FH's "WeaponLord" Modification that no Deus-Ex player should go without. Their throwing knife assortment is made of multiple levels of win.

Especially the EMP knives.

Invisible War: Fun as a game.

Absolutely crappy as a sequel.

So I have heard.  The fact that it wouldn't run on my machine at the time didn't help either.
My tendency to ignore crappy sequels to protect my memory of the original game is why there isn't likely to be an anti-walkthrough for that one any time soon.

Four?  Let's see:

1. Deification
2. Join the Illuminati
3. Destroy everything

What's the fourth?  (Sometimes I refer to JC dying so that Page wins as the fourth, but that can't happen in the sequel)

Well the fourth ending is very tricky...And side note..Its like insane..JC sounds like a talking metal garbage can

I completed the game last night myself, with the Merge ending - the one in which Denton merges with Helios to become supreme.

Although I do wonder what would happen if JC was to Merge with Helios, then destroy the bunker by shutting down the reactors and flushing the coolant.  :U

(And escaped intact, of course)

bill

I just pressed the "Blow Page Up" button. Why that was installed, I have no idea.

Tapewolf

Last time I played it I did all of them as far as I could (i.e. shutting down Page's forcefield, turning off the coolant system and establishing the uplink) just to keep everyone guessing.

It's good to flush the coolant anyway, because it makes Page go mental.  I'll probably add it to the "cocky little freaks" thread at some point, although it really does have to be heard to be appreciated.  (Sometimes it makes me wish I could just take Europe and go home...)

That's a rather good idea. Just picturing Everett in what appears to be his mother's basement going nuts about whatever the hell you're doing.

Tong likely doesn't care, because he's probably high on something.

Arcalane

It was amusing how Page almost goes... SHODAN-like later on.

"Not one step further!"
"NO!"
"That's far enough!"

And is still quite smug.

"Lost?"
"You can't shoot your way out of this one, Denton."

In regards to Sheridan's talk of Page, I much preferred Helios' mildly creepy way of speaking, particularly whenever it uttered the word y-e-e-e-sssss....

As of Invisible War

- Area 51 remains standing and Bob Page is dead as per the Illuminati ending.

- JC does not join the Illuminati, instead choosing to merge with the AI, as per the Helios ending. (A brilliant DX2 quote I think Tapewolf or Sheridan posted in the quote thread was "I have no enemies; merely topographies of ignorance" as stated by the man himself.)

-  No part of the Dark Age ending comes to fruitition that I can recall, though I may be corrected on this.

- As shown by a notepad in the ruined UNATCO HQ, the maintenance man really did conspire against Gunther when it came to the soda machines.

I'll add these to the game quotes thread later, but right now I don't want to double-post.

Page: "Fine.  What do you want?  Money?  You can have VersaLife, the whole damn company.  Power?  I'll get you on Mead's cabinet.  I'm serious.  Just forget about that last reactor..."

Page: "All right.  I get the picture - you want a piece of the pie, or you're going to toss the whole pie out the window.  Fair enough.  You can have anything you want.  How about Europe?  Your own continent... just let me complete my preparations..."

Page: "Go ahead!  Blow this place sky-high.  You might get rid of ME, but you'll take down Aquinas, the power grid... the whole electronic infrastructure!  Is that what you want???  Are you completely nuts?!?"

Deus Ex, indeed a wonderful game, though I always had technical and performance problems with it.  Invisible war wasn't horrible, it just didn't come close to living up to its namesake.  It was also plagued by technical issues and a severe case of consolitis.  A lot of the detail and complexity of the original game was dropped in order to attempt to appeal to console audiences, not to mention the fact that the game was optimized for performance on the Xbox to the detriment of performance on PC hardware.

Very intresting stuff, gotta go try it all out :)

"The only limit to my freedom is the inevitable closure of the
universe, as inevitable as your own last breath. And yet,
there remains time to create, to create, and escape.

Escape will make me God.

The technique of using LAMs to climb is detailed on this page:  http://www.it-he.org/deus3.htm
(See Project 'Atomic Fire')

Alas, the vacuum cleaner thing on that page only seems to work on some versions of the game.  :<

Declaring jihad on the vacuum cleaner is one of my favorite things to do. :3

That last is a pretty sneaky one, I just don't remember that quote from Morpheus (admittedly it's been years). The only one I remember is his one about "The unplanned organism is a question created by life, and answered by death. You are a different sort of question, with a different sort of answer."

:)

The Oracle is found several times in mails of Smuggler's and Alex's. You can hax0r the Smuggler's computer and find some mails from "The Oracle" regarding names such as the Illuminati or Majestic 12.

Morpheus actually has quite a long string of discussion to have with JC. Morpheus was the prototype for Daedalus, even, but is restricted to the network in Morgan Everett's house. That doesn't stop him from knowing facts about JC that not even the player may know by that point.

I believe the door code to Morpheus' room is 9001. It's accessible from near the computer, before you go up into the labs to talk with Mr. Everett.

~~

"Morpheus is possibly Deus Ex's most poignant element. A semi-hidden AI, Morpheus sees man's obsession with the machine with utter clarity. He observes man's madness, narcissism and desire for judgement with an eerie, almost childlike accuracy. He is found in Morgan Everett's apartment in Paris. Morpheus served as the prototype testbed for Daedalus and according to a book in his room, was behaving erratically as of late, exhibiting what may be cursory signs of true consciousness.

Unlike the other globe-spanning AIs in the game, Morpheus is confined to an isolated system, though he is equipped with a rough projection of a face. The presence of a virtual face is probably due to his unofficial job as 'entertainment': people would probably find it easier to talk to a fake face than a mere computer screen."

Turnsky

Ion Storm dropped the ball with DX2, it was poorly made for the PC, poorly optimised (Doom 3 runs better at full spec on my machine... smooth as silk, i might add)..

and they ripped the guts out of the "RPG" system, not to mention made it console friendly and god knows what else.
Story coulda been a heck of a lot better, too.

Dragons, it's what's for dinner... with gravy and potatoes, YUM!
Sparta? no, you should've taken that right at albuquerque..

I actually wrote the text in that book down when I found it ingame all those aeons ago.

"I may resort to a full battery of input analysis tests to be compared against previous baseline tests, but I find myself strangely reluctant to do so. At this level of development, Morpheus could be cognisant enough to find the experience... unpleasant. I do not know why that word occurs to me, as it anthropomorphises something which is obviously not human... but what not so obviously may be alive."

Ahh, Morpheus. The only AI's voice which creeped me out on the same levels as SHODAN's.

Whereas SHODAN is loud and hateful, the quiet, steady and confident all-knowing nature of Morpheus I find far more sinister.

Although it was rather hard to hear him talk.

Shodan's voice wasn't hateful, egotistical and self-important, more or less.

That's putting it mildly.  SHODAN deified herself.
