Durrrr... my kartune iz gonna be about GI Jo and Kobra.  They will not fight anymoore cuz that is not PC.  They'll be facing off in a kooking show and wearing aprons and stuff.  An Destro's face will rust from the steam.  LOLz.   :B

I would so watch a show where Cobra Commander curses at a soufleé. o:

heres whats scary, everyone know ive got a 2 year old daughter? she loves the my little ponies.

they have new 'movies' and 'shows' out, and we had picked up a DVD of the old series. she loved it, she keeps saying 'movie' and 'pony' when she wants to watch it. later, due to her loving MLP so much, we saw another DVD and got it for her....it was the new stuff, she dosent want a thing to do with it. we now have 4 DVDs of the original show, and one of them is the original movie.

yes, even a 2 year old likes the old 80s stuff better.

why? im not sure, when you think about it the 80s version was so cheezy. it was to sell toys, there were close to a hudnred diffrent ponies, half their names were so goofy, they made friends with other goofy named critters who you could buy, the songs were horrible, the animation was horrible as was the voiceacting, and all the charicters were one dimentional with only a gimic for a personality. the new ponies? the animation is pretty, the names actually sound pretty good, and i only see about eight or so ponies.

so whats the diffrence? the new ponies are PC. yeah, no more 'adventures' into dark woods or saveing thier friends from witches or whatever. now its freaking teaparties and whatnot. what really put me and my wife off was that in the new DVD we grabbed the thrilling climax was when the pony chosen to be princess decides to make everyone a princess too....wheeeeee....

also, ive realised the original MLP are downright mean. im serious, when they defeat a 'villan' they not only use dirty tricks and lie through thier teeth but they also feel the need to rub it in and leave the trapped person for dead alone in the wilderness or rotting in a dungeion somewhere.

i blame that ONE specific generation that thought it was a good idea to censor our children. think about buggs bunny, violence everywhere. for decades he was wholesome family entertainment, and was waaaay more PC and friendly then half the stuff that came before him. and then one year people decided he was offencive and shouldnt be shown on saturday morning TV cause he could warp kids minds and fully expect children were dumb enough to drop anvils on people cause Wile E Coyote did it all the time. slowly weve been regaining some measure of reason with kids programming, as evidenced by anime that dosent end in 'mon' being shown on TV and a return of things like TMNT and GIjoe.

someday, i dont know when, buggs bunny may find its place back in the saturday morning lineup. to be honest most of whats out there could be safely replaced by a test pattern and increase our kids IQ.

*laughs* Ah, that Bugs Bunny bit reminds me. I was in Barnes & Nobles yesterday and I was looking at the Looney Toons gold collection, which is 140 minutes for $64.99 (such a bargain! :B ), and on the back it said something like "for mature collectors only, not for children".
Looney Toons. "Not for children".

I don't know. one of my 3 year old nephews is a fan of rescue heroes, and it seems like a good show... It can't all be bad now.

Goatmon

This is but one of many reasons I don't bother watching daytime TV anymore.  The 90s have come and gone and with them they've brought to us Rocko's Modern Life, Doug, Ren and Stimpy, Gargoyles, Aladdin, Rescue Rangers, Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Pirates of Dark Water, SWAT Kats, Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, MIB, and all other manner of cartoons the likes of which we will never see again on the primary networks.  Blame the networks for being afraid of offending parents rather than damaging children.  Blame the parents that take offense because they think other people will take offense.  Blame People who only give a crap about flashing crap on the screen quickly enough to draw in the kiddies attention, using short and meaningless episodic stories that are soon forgotten, that reinforce a short attention span.

If nothing else, I'm glad my childhood was over before Political Correctness and Censorship crippled the babysitter of our nation's youth.

Brunhidden

what boggles me are the shows that are one of the following.

1- absolutely nobody likes it. how is it still on the air after three years? somebody needs to be fired because of this.

2- this show is aimed at age group A, but nobody in age group A watches it. its largest audience is people five to ten years older or younger then age group A. people buy the toys for age group A because they have no idea age group A thinks the show sucks.

3- this show is bland, tasteless, and somehow light beige. even fans who watch the show only watch it because nothing else is on. fewer then a hundred people in the country actually count this show as one of thier five vavorite shows. toys for this show do not even exist anymore, other then the first ones they released when the show started and a few were bought by the same people who bought toys from show #2

4- they actually pay someone to write this? seriously, after episode 4 there is no reason to watch this show, youve already seen every joke, plot, villan, and whatever else. beyond all reasoning this show is in its seventh+ year.

5- the opposite of #4, someone made a really crappy show and kidnapped good writers to give one dimentional charicters who are ugly and annoying terriffic stories. to watch this is painfull because you can feel the whiplashes on the writers back and the welts the chains leave on thier ankles.

its almost like theres a formula theese people follow in order to make people hate TV. would it kill them to have another five shows with the longevity and marketing potential of the simpsons? with a little bit of effort and not running in fear when toy sales dip the executives of those studios could have kept most of our favorite shows going for twice as long, if not longer.

I miss old cartoons so much... they explored a lot more themes and really taught you stuff.

I think the downfall came in the 90s with that weird bill or something... it demanded that all kids' tv shows had to be educational, which explained Captain Planet (and quite a few other shows) had those things at the end that promoted kids looks after the planet, and yada yada yada. Of course, some shows did slip through by tricking the tv stations (good on them).

I'm still waiting in fear for the day they create anime Care Bears. It's bound to happen.

This is not going to stop me from creating a competent D&D cartoon that will only be shown on Adult Swim (because when you've got undead, demons, devils and all manner of creatures that'll kill you with just a look, there is no where else to go).

FOR THE LOVE OF!...  The only way you're going to get anywhere in an Communist system is if you force people forward at the point of a gun!  This is a fact, you know why?  Because humans are animals and animals ARE self serving!  The thing about capitalism is that rather than force every to abandon this natural instinct, it changes said self-serving atitude into a form that can benefit all, such as labor!  If anything, capitalism is more communal that Communisim!

There's this point that was overlooked by Marx.

If everyone is hired by the state, and everyone works, then... everyone will need to have someone standing over them to keep them working, since there's no economic incentive to work. (sure, there are exceptions, and people who enjoy what they do, but they're not as common as one could wish)

"Karl Marx describes it as the "equal obligation of all to work" rather than explicitly naming the use of force, but as with many of his other proposals, it is a half-baked and half-formed idea, lacking the courage to explicitly name the unpleasant mechanisms required for implementation. How is this "obligation" supposed to be enforced? Marx never explained..."

OK.  I just posted a stupid video about the Communist Manifesto.  I didn't intend this to become a discussion about Marx's ideas.

Since everybody else is doing it, though...

Communism isn't inherently bad.  It's simply a Mary Sue idea.  It would never work in the real world, but that doesn't mean that Marx didn't have good intentions.

Marx's theory will only work in an industrialized nation.  Without organized means of production, there be no bourgeoisie to overthrow.  At the same time, the incentives that the system offers are things like higher pay, less work, and greater national unity.  These are incentives only for those who live in pre-industrialized economies.  The first two are already provided for those in industrialized economies, and the last one is not a common desire in industrialized economies.

So it seems that communism cannot work where people want it to, and where it can work, nobody wants it to.

No, no it won't.  I fail to see how you even have any logical evidence to support that it would, other than having everyone at work stations with guns literally pointed at their heads.  Even there, the people are being selfish, working to keep living.  Thats how nature works, you exert effort for yourself, you live, you don't, you die.  Communism is powered by THE EXACT SAME SELFISHNESS that Capitalism is, but in Communism, you don't really have a choice of when, where, and how.  If anything, Communism creates a more powerful bourgeoisie than capitalism would ever allow!  The Government!

OK. First of all, communism only worked in Russia. Why? Because they went from feudalism straight to communism. They left out the two steps everyone gets stuck at most of the time - industrial capitalism (i.e., the US) and the dictatorship of the proletariat (i.e., North Korea). In both cases, the countries got stuck because the leaders (or, in our case, the people) were greedy bastards just like normal folks. Socialism makes more sense in my mind than communism because it leaves out the killing and gives the government a little more regulation over businesses so that franchises like Wal-Mart don't go around stealing customers from smalltown stores. People can still be greedy, but no-one can be overgreedy because the government won't let it happen. Sadly, this would probably never work in America because we're too far gone in capitalism.

As to the picture of Lion-o.... he looks like Axel from Organization 13 and Kimbley from FMA did fusion. And changed into Spandex.  :giggle

also, more facts about Captialism V Communism:

Fact1:  Vietnam used to have communist farming.  Most of the population was starving.

Fact2:  Vietnam now uses capitalistic farming.  They are now the world's second largest exporter of rice.

I'm pretty sure that's not how it works, at least not in China or the USSR.  Let's start with a definition of Communism's goals.  Let's say, ``less work, more pay.''

In pre-industrialized nations, they make very little money, and have to work long hours to get it.  Communism, if it worked, would indeed give them less work and more pay.  They would probably jump at the chance to work in an environment where they were forced to work at gunpoint.  The sword of Damocles would be better than working the fields growing just enough food to stay starving for another year.  If drought or pests hit, you're just as dead as if you were shot, and at least under Communism, you get to make the choice.

But Communism cannot work in agrarian economies.  Without an organized means of production, it cannot function.

In industrialized nations, they have an organized means of production.  Communism can function just fine.

But the people in industrialized nations already have much less work and much more pay than those in pre-industrialized nations.  They have no desire to make Communism work, since in the best-case Mary Sue scenario, the pay and work would be about the same as what they have now.  Naked self-interest will make the people loath to change the system.

So while Communism might be able to function in an industrialized nation, its citizens will try to make sure that it never does.

Edit:

Quote from: Valynth on January 20, 2007, 10:24:47 PMCOMMUNISM DIDN'T WORK IN RUSSIA!  Whoever the hell fed you that crap must be have had their brains removed as children.  I hate to tell ya this, not, but the Soviet Union COLLAPSED.

Actually, Communism *did* work in Russia.  They now have less work and more pay.  As soon as that happened, Communism collapsed.  It's not a workable system for open-ended time frames, but it did allow them to jump ahead about 300 years (Russia had only abolished feudalism in 1861) in 70 years' time.

The things that they did in that time were terrible.  Had I been in Russia at the time of the revolution, and had I known then what I know now about the economic transformation that Russia has undergone, I would have signed right up with the White army to fight for the Tzar.

Define for me "organized means of production"  and then we'll talk, untill then you hinge your belief on a subject that you made in your own head.

The main problem with Communism is that they fail to see that the less you work, the less you produce, the less you produce, the less there is to go around.  This is simple logic and applies EVERYWHERE, regardless of industrialization.
