any good online/mmorpg games with furry characters (or at least furry mods)?

I may be a bit young to be worrying about it so much, but I'm not changing this sig until I find true love.

Depends on how you define those categories.

For example ...

Second Life isn't exactly a game, more of an online socializing environment.  It does however have a lot of furry avatars available.

Neverwinter Nights isn't massively multiplayer (just multiplayer), though it is very easy to get very furry characters into the game.

Trickster Online is a great MMO and a game, though the furry quotent comes down to ears and tail (you've likely seen the Raccoon in Roureem Egas' avatar).

Now then, if you want to pay ...

Everquest II has Kerra (felines), Frogloks, Iksar (lizards) and Ratonga.  It's also an actual game and one that I had a lot of fun with for a while.  I'm not sure about the new direction they're taking the game in but it's still a lot of fun.

City of Villains has werewolf and lizard sets available.  Also, if you're creative you can even knock together an anthro chicken.

There are lots of other pay MMOs out there too that have furry races but I think the above are the most prominent.

Beyond that, nothing comes to mind.

could you link me to the nwn furry stuff? I looked everywhere on the main site for it a while back.

Hmm, I can definitely see the NWN stuff, didn't know about it though. I used the Guardinals  (kinda like furry angels), as well as the Rakshasa (evil felines, mostly tigers) in the first furry story I wrote that was set in Guardinals' home plane of Elysium. I grabbed all of that from D&D lore. :P

I figure by now though that someone would have set up a persistant server with a furry theme for NWN. I'll have to poke around to see if I can find any.

So yes, do indeed post the linkie. Is it a model/race addon or something? I might wanna get in on that myself.  :3

Rowne

Glad to be of service, of course I will!

Just give me a little while to gather the links, I won't be able to find everything that I want immediately (and there's some damned nice stuff out there).

I just had to post to say that I am fetching the links, it'd be rude to imply that I'm ignoring the request.  So, I'm on the hunt!

Here we go!

Leto ~ Before I get into anything else, this tool is absolutely vital.  Even on its own merits, it can allow a player to become a Rakshasa, a Hound Archon or any number of things.  Yet with certain override items, it can do so much more.  I'll get to that in the items below.

Tail Pack ~ This can add a tail to a normal race character, check out the readme to find out how it's possible to add the tails to player characters with Leto.

Head Pack ~ This can exchange a standard race head for a furry animal head using either Leto or the in-game character generator (extra heads will appear under certain races but if you want animal heads for races that don't have them in the selector, you have to use Leto).

Braveclaw & Heartshot ~ I love these, these are completely new models to use with Neverwinter Nights, complete with digitigrade legs and everything.  There's a modification to the Leto configuration included so it's just a matter of dropping that in then Leto should allow a standard race model to be exchanged for either Braveclaw or Heartshot.

----

I think that the readme files with each of those cover how to use them but they can be confusing.  So if you find yourself lost, ask and I'll do my best to offer aid.

-----

Oh, one thing I do recommend: try playing one of those mechanical minotaur things.  It's really quite amusing, especially watching other characters interact with it as if it were a normal person.  I remember running Grand Theft Otto and sitting around in the Thieves Guild laughing it up with some high-ranking fellow there, I think that'd strike anyone as particularly amusing.

Indeed, with Leto there are so many extrinsic and peculiar things, one could be a wisp or a Doggy!, it opens up so many roleplay possibilities.

----

Nutbunnies, almost forgot something really important then!

Patch 1.66 changed a lot of things and made certain mods rather crazy, so I'd recommend that if you're using these mods (or any mods) and they don't demand 1.66+ in their readme specifically (as opposed to on the info page, they almost always cite the latest version there when it's rarely ever nessescary) then I'd recommend grabbing the 1.65 updater and not going any further than that.

*looks at the braveclaw* holy green eggs and ham! I've been looking for something like that forever! rowne, you are a god!

I used to play a MMORPG called 'Dofus' (a French game, but has an English server too). It's free, but the free part was really restricting. Once you got up to lv 40 there wasn't much you could do. It doesn't really have furry characters, but it has a race of feline-type characters, and I think if you're a premium user, there's a (drunk) Panda class as well.

Ack, no need for such glorification or approbation.  Long ago, I followed NWN religiously because I loved the game, I loved what it allowed one to do.  Bioware went above and beyond the call of duty with releasing their server software and the Aurora toolkit.  They could've milked so much more money off that but they didn't.

Even their recent official modules are cheap, if only Bethesda was knocking out stuff of that calibre, I might've shown more interest in Oblivion.  If you have the cash, check out the piratey module, it's really worth it (and then some).

Anyway, if you really like the models, post thanks on NWVault, give the fellow a vote and if he has an email addy, let him know that you like his work.  It always brightens a person's day to hear things like that and he's far more worthy of praise than I am.

Finally, one other thing occurs, if you're looking for a furry place to play, there is actually one server out there.  I don't know what it's like because I never played on any of the persistant worlds (I was more for getting a group of friends together and stomping out a hard singleplayer or multiplayer module with some roleplaying on the side) but it seems like it might be good: Furry NWN.

Also, if you want to run your own persistant world, then one would have to suggest Nordock as a good choice, it has some wonderful set pieces (I'm especially fond of the quest that starts with a panicked farmer running into an Inn to recruit would-be heroes against an Ogre that's ravaging his livestock) and all in all, it's quite entertaining.

If you're looking for singleplayer or multiplayer modules then I'd recommend anything by Stefan Gagne, the man's a genius!  To find his works, just run 'gagne' through NWVault's search engine, it'll turn up lots of stuff.

I'll post more as it occurs to me, if anything does.  I think I might've covered just about everything though.

----

Blargh, that was inconsistent.  Okay, I did play on one persistent world and that was Nordock, I was impressed that the guy was passing his World around, so I played it multiplayer with a few friends for a while.  So I played a PW in a non-PW way.

Blazehawk

This stuff is made of pure awesome!  :marle  Thank you so much Rowne for finding these...they also solve my problem of how to deal with the Khajiit and Argonians in the Elder Scrolls module I'm putting together.  :>

Rowne

Oh my, that Marle emote is amusing, it seems there is no end to the emotive awesome of this forum.

Anyway, I have this nagging feeling that there's more than what I've found so I'm going to keep poking around for a bit and I'll report back if I find anything.  There's a heck of a lot out there for Neverwinter Nights and it's been a while since I perused the vault.

----

Aha!  I found a few more items of interest.

Digitigrade Legs ~ These are a set of digitigrade legs, which much like the tails and heads above can either be used in modules or for the player character via Leto.

Ryuujin dA ~ This is Ryuujin's dA account, he's responsible for a lot of the furry NWN stuff I've linked and he has more here but I believe that the stuff on his dA account is for module-creation only, as opposed to being playable.  Though I wouldn't say you should quote me on that, some of it might be.

Lysander

This is some realy nice stuff. I never even knew much about NWN before this, just heard the game is good. Now I know how great it can be and will have to look into it when I get back.
Thanks for the extensive info, Rowne. :januscat

Much thanks to Keaton and Haz for my sig, and King Of Hearts for my avatar. ILU guys <3

I'd say it likely does, the MMO banner is open to wide and wild interpretation, after all.  After all, MMO is just Massively Multiplayer Online, which Furcadia is.

Though from what I've seen, the Lost Lake on Furcadia has become the proverbial Ravenhom, we don't go there anymore.  Perhaps those who do still frequent Furcadia in general should organize a Furc Lost Lake get-together?

As for myself, Trickster is my MMO anti-drug right now and likely will be for a while.  *Cough.*

Kitsune Ascendant

eh. I've already tried furcadia. it really doesn't appeal.

and I'm having trouble using that braveclaw bit. a little help, please?

Antoher addon for NWN:  http://www.nwn-prc.com/

The PRC adds more races, but to start as them you need the character generator at http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=other.Detail&id=707.  It'll actualy give you (some of, in a few cases) the abilites races like the Rakshasa and wemics get.  A heck of a lot more classes too.

Rowne

Kitsune: In the Braveclaw & Heartshot zipkit, there should be a bunch of XML files and things, it'll say in the readme (if I remember correctly) where to drop those in the Leto directory, if it doesn't then there should be some subdirectory within the Leto directory that holds XML files, it goes in there.

Once you have those files in place, head into Neverwinter Nights and create a new character, then save the character as whichever of the mundane races you prefer (just remember to use the Braveclaw portrait for the character).  Once you've done that, quit out of the game.  Use Leto and the dropdown file menu to navigate to your Localvault directory (within the NWN directory) and select the charactere save you made earlier, it'll appear by name so if you made a character with the first name Kitsune and the second Ascendant, it'll appear in there as KitsuneAscendant.bic.

Change things around as you please on the main tab then move on, there should be a tab like 'appearance' or somesuch, it'll have options like changing the profile or the model.  Open the model dropdown and search for Braveclaw, once you've found him, click that and then save it via the file dropdown.  Head back into NWN and start a module using the character you created earlier and he should have Braveclaw's model.

If you need any further help with file placement or if I've forgotten anything or explained something in a crappy way (I'm not the best), let me know and I'll do my best to answer any and all questions.  Don't worry, you'll pick up valuable character building skills along the way and once you have this down, it's a doddle.

Why is it that the more I say Braveclaw, the more I'm reminded of Bravestarr?  Now I have the bloody Bravestarr theme stuck in my head and it won't go away!  It tortures me so.

hmmm.. any other neverwinter nights anthropomorphic foxes out there? the braveclaw one's good, but I want one for my sorc.

Not that I know of, sadly.  Though if you use the Fox head and tail of the appropriate packs and the digitigrade legs, you'll likely end up with something almost as good that you can slap a robe on.

Ragnarok online? It's quite awesome of a game, although I don't think that you can be a furry creature, you can kill some furry monsters. (Or even lure them and snatch them for a pet)

<_<   >_>

Yeah, I've just came to realize that this forum has been taken over... *akward silence*

I mainly hail from the CVD site and many other different forums out there, nice to see good hearted people move to this realm! Uhh, hey look! There is a furry rabbit to your right, look!  '-'

                                                                                                                                  :bunny

*Runs off*

Rowne

In all fairness, Ragnarok Online was greatness when it was back in beta.  When they started up their subscription service it all went to hell.  Their support became terrible, they stopped listening and the GMs they hired had some of the biggest issues I've ever seen GMs manifest.  Back in beta though, those were the golden days.  It's a shame really because it's a damned good game.

Ohwell, now there's Trickster Online, which is also a damned good game and without any of the nonsense.

Plus, there are a bunch of other games out there too by Game&Game and gPotato which fascinate me.  I'm currently taken in by Space Cowboy because it's an MMO in which I can exercise my Afterburner and X-Wing skills.  I haven't put those to use in years, so it makes me happy in a very retro way.  So it's not a problem with Korean MMOs at all, it was just RO's business model.

And for those that do want to play RO, there's always the option of walking on the grey line (playing on free servers), if one wished to do so.

As for a furry skintone, I haven't seen one ka, sorry.  The best suggestion I can give is to just get your character fully suited up in armour, it won't matter then.  Not the perfect solution I know but the best I can think of.  I'll look around anyway and see if I can't find anything.
