Assassin's Creed is being released on Steam tomorrow.  I've already pre-paid for it.  I have a feeling though that this is going to be the game to push the limits of my computer.  At first I thought that was going to be Oblivion, or Quake 4, or even Bioshock.  But after some tweaks and updates, all of them run perfectly, and at full resolution to boot.

According to Steam, a dual core processor is required to run this game, and the one that I have (a Pentium D... it was new at the time) is listed as a minimum requirement.  Also my video card is among the few nVidia series that the game supports.

The PC version is supposed to have some exclusive content not available to the console versions.  I'm not sure what exactly this content is going to be though.  Maybe some extra missions or something.  Or perhaps it's a collection of behind-the-scenes videos.

A friend of mine who bough the XBox version tells me that playing it with a keyboard is gonna be hell, in the shape of a keyboard.  But even though I have a joystick for my PC, should I heed his warning about the keyboard?  Is this game so complex that playing it with a keyboard would be so bad?

Having not played the game yet, I'll have to take a wild guess based on controller vs. mouse/keyboard.

Console gamers are just more used to holding a controller in their hands.  PC gamers are more used to WASD+Mouse.  You throw a PC gamer into Halo, he's going to get frustrated.  You throw an Xbox Halo player into the PC version, same thing's going to happen.

Granted, Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within was significantly easier on my PS2 than it was on PC.  The button combos were just a lot more intuitive.

And Assassin's Creed was made by the same guys.

Your buddy probably has a point, then, but take it with a grain of salt.

Oh, and as you're probably well-aware, PC gamepads are legendary for their suckfulness.  If you decide you absolutely need a gamepad, be sure to lay down for a wired Xbox 360 controller or a SixAxis/Dualshock 3.(the latter requires you scour the 'net for drivers to make it work.  Just choose whichever's cheaper.)

I will say one thing, Assassin's Creed was fun but it has no real replay value.

Well, I'm enjoying it, to say the least.  The controls aren't as complex as my friend made it out to be.  Although my computer is struggling to keep up.  I think it's time that I start saving up for a new one.
