Professionals you hate

They're the world leaders in their field, but no one can tell how they got there.  It obviously wasn't any talent.

So come on, let it all out.  Who do you hate?

I'll go first:

Massimo Vignelli

Have you ever seen those books or brochures where each page is composed of multiple columns of Helvetica text and a big picture which takes up an integral number of those columns?

Then you know Massimo Vignelli.  You've seen his work.  And his other work, which looks like the same thing.  And his other other work, which looks suspiciously like all of his other work.  It looks like it's designed to be dull.  And it is.

He's responsible for the design of the National Park Service publications

and the packaging for Heller:

and the old NY Metro map:

and the Audubon society:

Noticing a trend?  Vignelli only knows how to design one thing, and he does it over and over and over again.  And uses a lot of Helvetica.  Maybe it was OK, once upon a time, but at this point. it just looks bland.

So what professionals do you hate?

Would you like a googolplex (gzipped 57 times)?

King Of Hearts

Greg Land

He does great comic art, and does it within the deadlines but... well this could be a good reason of my resentment towards his work.

Hermann Tilke. Architect, and "Track Designer".

Just about every high-level track since about 1990 has been designed by this guy. Problem: All his tracks are terrible.
Sepang:

Bahrain:

Shanghai:

He also completely ruined Hockenheim. (old version in grey, Tilke version in black)

None, and I mean NONE of his tracks have anything approaching "flow" or even "Challenge". They have way too many turns, are way too technical, and are freaking clinical. And good tracks have to suffer for these things.

lucas marcone

so i suppose you want NASCAR ovals?

bill

No, I'd like more of this.

This wouldn't hurt, either.

Wee, Spa and Nurburgring! :3

While I was watching Spa qualifying, I was reading the local paper's sports section with a "map" of that week's NASCAR track. I cried a little that morning.  D:
The power and the glory is over, so I'll take it.
The power and the glory is over, so I'll make it.
The power and the glory is over, and I'll break it.

Is it possible to get lost at Loudon? Srsly.

Another of my faves. Donington. They just don't make 'em like they used to.

Yeah, that would only take an hour 'round the Ring. :<

Ah... she did it in just over 10 minutes.

Let me see if I can find the youtube...

Nope. But wikipedia says, for episode 44:
Challenge: After much practice, Clarkson took a diesel Jaguar S-Type around the Nürburgring at 9:59, just under ten minutes. His instructor, Sabine Schmitz, exclaimed "I could do that in a van". She then took the Jaguar out and recorded a lap time almost a minute quicker on her first try, at 9:12.
And for episode 55:
Challenge: Hammond goes to the Nürburgring to see if Sabine Schmitz can do a lap of the infamous track in a Transit van in under 10 minutes.

I honestly don't know how to respond to that. :U

llearch n'n'daCorna

Indeed. She's one of those I don't hate, but admire.

Professionals I hate are all closer to home, like, say, the helpful idiots upstairs who don't know how to do their job, interfere with my job, make helping them next to impossible, and wonder why I'm so grumpy all the time...

More bad news for Bill. Tilke did the reconfiguration of the Fuji Speedway.  :tantrum
