Okay, it's bad enough that they overpriced the PS3 and are becoming overprotective copyright nannies, but this has gone too far.

I can't believe that Sony would do this.  But to shut down a service that has been one of the cornerstones of the gaming community is just sickening.  What's next?  Is Sony going to sue GameFAQS now?
Sig coming...whenever...

DigitalMan

Considering the price tag of the PS3 (and the $70-$80 games), and adding this on, it's clear that Sony wants to get out of the gaming business quickly.

I can't believe I'm actually saying this... but desperate times call for desperate measures... Go Wii60.

Curse you Sony... CURSE YOOOOU!

Seriously though, if this isn't the last straw, then whatever they have up their sleeves for next time is going to be a real doozy.

(Also to be mentioned: Sony have said that they will take legal action against anyone selling imported consoles to EU consumers before Christmas.)

Ya know its funny only a few years ago Microsoft was just about one everyones 'sh*t list' but they really cleaned up their act....And now its Sony's turn, but my god Microsoft never got this bad even it its worst. I think Sony's still warming up too...

Aridas

All sony did was make up a bunch of false reasons of "concern" just to shut them down. What I'm wondering is why they can't just DROP sony and keep their other things up. No other company is that idiotic to pull something like that, except maybe microsoft.

Nah, Microsoft got it plenty bad, too.  The thing about Microsoft, though, is that they tend to learn and adapt very quickly, and from day 1 they've been concerned with growing gaming with a social aspect, and staying connected with their fans to get feedback.  They're literally like the Borg (just with better propaganda).

Meanwhile, Sony is simply arrogant.

Will consoles and manufacturers ever give euro gamers a freaking break? :<

I think, by the end of this whole thing, market share will be roughly equal on all 3 sides, and I'm sure that song had a massive bulk of it last gen, I was leaning to the PS3, then the price dropped and I'm sling shotted to Nintendo land. There has to be some sort of understanding in Sony of this situation, maybe they know something we don't, and they will somehow win big on this, but I'm not seeing it.

Vidar

I hope sony chokes on their PS3s.

Does anyone know a proper alternative to lik-sang?

Thats why me and FKK will be having fun with our Wii :P

Supercheese

So many Wii jokes... and yet the PS3 is still easier to make fun of.

I know but I like to have fun my kitty friend *hands him a cookie*

Aridas

Fun? FUN?? YOU WANT TO HAVE FUN? Headcrabs are EVERYWHERE and the entire city's been taken over by semi-mindless, gruesome looking zombies, and you want to have FUN?? There's no TIME for fun! Grab a shotgun and get your ass out there! Sony could spread beyond this one city if we let a single one survive!

Never used either one myself, but I think Play Asia offers a similar selection.  They might be in the same boat when it comes to Sony imports, though.

I'm not really sure what to think about this whole "Sony shut down lik-sang" business.  The more I read about it, the more it seems like lik-sang just wanted out of the business.  That's just conjecture, but if they're not showing up in court, doesn't sound like they're trying hard to me (yes, yes, they're based in Hong Kong, and the court was in England, but still).

Aridas

And like I think I said, there's no reason they couldn't actually get rid of that crap that sony has an issue with, therefore solving all problems. I think they might just be making it up.

Zedd

Well must be making it all up..Its so hard to focus the entire nature of Sonys being...But what game company isnt going to the crapper now and then

Aridas

I can think of one... >_>

Yes, I did. Thank you.

I can't believe what my dad said to me a few nights ago:

"Hey, shouldn't we get a PS3? We need a blu-ray player..."

I just stared at him for a while before reminding him of the massive price discrepancy, Nintendo's clear superiority, and the fact the he himself has been anti-Sony since day 1. He eventually admitted that he didn't really mean it, but it was still odd hearing those words from him.

"Buy a PS3?! I Wiifuse!"   :P

Kenji

I think the reasons behind Sony not wanting PS3s imported to the UK are:

1) The PS3 would be bought in the US for $600, then sold to the UK (the sold money would go to the PS3 owner, not Sony). As such, a lot of people in the UK would buy imports and not the official UK PS3s. And since UK dollars are usually worth twice the cost, Sony would lose money.

2) They don't want anyone having a system before it's released in that country. Maybe they want to increase hype or keep them waiting with inferior product numbers... again.

Either way, unless the PS3 drops to no more than $300 in the next year and a half, screw Sony.

Sony is the unholy perfection of everything bad about Microsoft.

Aridas

Sony might as well go into the bomb business. And I don't mean their business decisions. *chucks sony-made laptop batteries at people*

There is no rest for the wicked ones. They will get theirs.

Creativity

I would think sony was the unholy perfection of everything bad about Nintendo, seeing as they WERE partners way back in the day.

Aridas

They were partners for 5 seconds.

Jack McSlay

simply put, If microsoft acted like sony acts now, the PC OS world would have been overrun by Linux

killing one of the best sources for people outside covered countries, and then sue anyone else who tries, wow that's a great strategy. I seriously don't get what they win by stopping people from buying imports, imports = sales boost

DigitalMan

Sony obtains a brief ego boost from the illussion of complete control. They'll learn soon enough that they shot themselves in the foot. Well maybe not soon enough, but soon.

bill

The sad thing is that Sony used to be a mark of assured quality. Their CE's now are mostly overpriced crap.
