Alright, these might not be amusing to everyone, but still...

My third round of three in my first match. I'm in the gunner's seat of an APC on our way to recapture a silo from the EU. Now, as you know, they have those nifty little hovertanks - the Nekomata "Kitten Tanks" as I call them. Suffice to say, our APC was sorely outgunned. Or was it?

Well, from one point of view, it was. It's gunners had some machineguns. What they had individually was a lot more hazardous to the Tank, however. I 'happened' to be an Engineer (alright, so I usually play Engineer) at the time (Engineers doubling as AV) and hopped out of the APC. With no secondary gunner, it was very vulnerable to one little thing;

A point blank[/i] interrogation of it's armour durability at the hands of an AV Missile Launcher. Suffice to say, one cluster of AV Missiles up it's rear exhaust, and it was a little more... well, dead. I didn't quite manage to kill myself, but I'm quite impressed that I survived.

Minus one tank, score one silo capture for us!

~~

Second round of three, first match. This is a pretty short one. I'm in a Nekomata Kitten-Tank, resecuring a silo. There's someone around but I can't see the little sod. Then he pops out right in front of me. Sure, he has a rocket launcher. This does not bother me. He fires straight into my front armour. Do I even feel it? Of course not.

He is, noticeably, staring right down the barrel of my cannon. Not one to pass up such an opportunity, I fired.

Scratch one enemy Engineer. ;)

~~

I can't remember which round of the first match it was, but I was holding Silo #5. An enemy mech comes stomping around the corner - me and my two buddies are on foot. We're screwed, right?

Naaaaaah.

I pause and whip out my rocket launcher. A first volley misses, and then I find the "Seek" function. The missiles follow the crosshair. Pretty neat, right? Right. So I guide the missiles back around and they come up the back end of the mech, and a second barrage puts it to rest as it should. >:3

(I refer to the AV launcher as a rocket launcher because in primary, they are unguided. If you hit secondary first to use the camera, they are still dumbfire, but you can hold the primary down to make them seek the crosshairs.)

I've got a question if you don't mind sheridan.

I've surfed the web and went through my many webcomics and found that
God Mode says something about this battlefield. Is this true or are they exaggerating?

I have no idea, because I'm not going to spend hours looking through that site. Get me a proper link. :P

Yay for ingame spyware. </searing sarcasm>
I hope that concept will crash and burn, however, I fear the worst.

Gave me same clarification on this topic. It confirms my fears about spyware. However it isn't as dangerous as I thought it to be. It's still annoying that it actually has spyware. Ad's per region is thier excuse for putting spyware into thier games?

It's on the front page.

It's changed since I went to look, then.

I had heard mention of the advertising, and I think it's a foolish move myself. Next thing you know, USAF ads will be scaring the daylights out of some poor people.

(That's a story for another time regarding Planetside, HART Centers, and Planetside's adverts...)

Ed: Reading the Blue's News thing, it seems pretty much identical to the system used in Planetside. Ads are based on region/IP.

spyware implies they're in your base stealing your infos, without your knowledge, and it'd be important stuff too >.>

:U

This is true. EA say it's innocent, but only time will tell.

Also; the Titan netcode is tehsux and moving Titans are very, very unstable. I've had my corpse fall through the floor of a moving Titan.

That said, the walkers are awesomesauce. They are huge, stompy, and made of metal! Rawr! Chainguns!

Oh, and they have some piffly little rocket things. The gunner controls a miniturret on top which is useful for fending off aircraft and adding some firepower to the chainguns. It's also useful for keeping an eye out for anyone sneakin' up on you when there's an Engineer repairing the mech.

Aridas

Well, we'll find out whether it's hax or not, and then REVENGE >.>

Yup. And another one;

I join a game and I'm on the losing side. Our Titan is having a number performed on it, so to speak, and it being attacked from the inside. Two kills and respawn later, they're not inside any more. I decide to take a nap inside one of the alcoves, shielded from view of anyone charging in.

Three kills later, and one poor sod hasn't quite learnt that charging into the Reactor Room before checking the back corners means I fill his back full of lead. :U

I then proceeded to get the hell out of dodge since the thing was about to explode anyway. The Titan has escape pods. Very useful. :)

Arcalane

Enough funny stories, now one that defined just how you play Titan mode.

Piling onto the Titan from a dropship and running down, pelting the Reactor with missiles. Fairly normal.

The headlong sprint out to the rear deck and into a waiting dropship?

Absolute movie moment. About... I dunno, 2-3 seconds (it could have been longer or shorter, I don't remember reallly...  it was a bit of a blur at the time) after the dropship took off, the Titan exploded.

Absolutely effing epic.

Malakin

Hey, whats all your in game names guys? we could all meet up on a server some time and kick ass :)

Anyway, my story.. :

Spending most of my time in a dropship capping points and owning gunships left and right, i have gotten used to what i call a rapid landing :P its a landing at full speed coming in from a high angle with a last second flare and reverse thrusters.. this works really well if you have to get a point that is guarded by troops or a guy in an AA turret as it leaves them with little time to respond and blow you away  :mowninja

So i was speeding down to missile silo 1, preparing to do a rapid landing.. However i did not expect a hover tank to be sitting right in front of the landing zone as i came in.. of course i was moving too fast to pull out so i just landed anyway  >:3 I hit the top of the tank straight on, the tank exploded killing the driver, at about the same time my gunners decided to bail out and got squished between me and the tank, this caused the dropship to roll over forwards and land upside down on a buggy full of people at which point the game caught up and decided that my craft should explode violently killing all survivors  :mwaha

..I congratulate your Rube Goldberg Machine esqueness. :P

I can usually be found playing under the name "Arcalane" with a "[UK]" tag. Not that I'm in any clans, y'understand.

I only have the demo right now.

Excuse the quit earlier. Apparently I was too cool for the server to handle. :rolleyes

I swear, they're so damn finicky.

Still, not as bad as getting kicked from a CS server for having a ping too low[/i] :rolleyes

Started with 2142 on tuesday after attempting to kill my self at work (by attempt I mean get electrocuted by a faulty vacuum cleaner)

But anyways...I played a few rounds getting a modest scores and a couple of promations at this point  I'd unlocked up the sniper path of the recon kit...And there was my baby the advanced sniper rifle.

After unlocking this bad boy the first map I hit a map called Fall of Berlin, an urban assault type map its got your usual ruined buildings choke points etc. There I unleashed some pain ended up with something like 20 or so awards and a combat sore of 75 and a career score of 200 plus, enough to get me another rank, I couldn't believe how nasty that rifle is.

Anyone else also up for a meet up on BF2142?

They're fun until a punk with an AV comes and busts it up some. Like I did once. :P

Okay...me got questions.

What are requirements for machine to play Battlefield 2142?

If it requires an Nvidia or ATI Graphics (video) card, it no doubt means the game requires Hardware TnL in order to function...

Quote* Windows XP
    * 1.7GHz processor
    * 512MB RAM
    * 4GB hard disk space
    * 128MB DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics card
    * DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
    * DVD-ROM drive

So pretty much yeah. It is pretty graphically intensive, so it's not going to run on ancient PCs. Or even slightly out of date ones that haven't been modded. :P

Rowne

Regarding the ads ...

If I were into that kind of game (and I'm not, not really because I'm not a clan-type person anymore and outside of established gaming groups, those environments can get rather uncivilized), I'd try to worm my way out of it.  It can't be that hard, can it?

First thing is to watch the old firewall logs for what connections it makes, find the IPs of the ad servers and then verify them.  After that, simply add the IPs to the hosts file, linking them back to localhost.  Would that do anything?

Arcalane

People have already found ways to bypass the IGA - and I pointed people at it in my short semirant in my Latest DA Journal. There's a link there, but if you're really lazy and don't want to read the journal, click here instead.

Rowne

Exactly the way I thought, too!  Neat.

I still doubt I'll look into this one but now I'll know for sure what to tell people if they ask me how to cleanse themselves of the unclean advertising tactics.

Arcalane

So far my experience of the IGA is some -very- subtle advertising for placeholder/fake corporations, "Dice Travel", and a "Wanted" poster. I didn't even REALISE the former was actual IGA until I checked the adcontent.cache file. Other than that it's adverts for the other maps (with some puns >_<) and as I said before, the wanted poster.

Fun story of the day; I managed to rocketjump 8-10 storeys into the air after taking out a Battlewalker with the Engineer's Missile Launcher. I was too busy laughing to pull the `chute ripcord and died when I hit the ground. :U

EDIT: The Lambert is pure ownage. `nuff said.

Nice Sheridan, BTW you could allways look up the FAnG server on BF2142, its usually full and the admins don't abuse their power..

EDIT: you in the supcom beta now Sheridan ? I do believe that is a Cybran support commander with the AA upgrade and possibly the personal shield as well :)

Arcalane

No cookie for you!

It's a UEF SCU w/ "Lava" AoE Cannon Upgrade & Personal Shield.

I'm playing the modified 2.7, because GPG fucked up and I didn't manage to get a key from fileplanet's free release period. I might subscribe for 1 month just to get a key because it doesn't cost that much.

Malakin

 :B i was wrong?!
Never mind, The only time i saw a suport commander was right before i bombed it with stratigic bombers, blowing up half the opponents base  >:3

Anyway, that realy sucks.. However as you might know, fileplanet has released loads of new keys, and 3.8 is by far the best beta version yet (as it should be :P ), so if you want to join up now is a good time ;) ..

I might. The sub is cheap enough, so I might do it just to get a key. ;)
