Title: 15/01/2011 [DMFA# 1188] - Distraction
Post by: Tapewolf on January 15, 2011, 05:49:18 AM
Looks like Abel has been inside longer than I thought, since it was day when he went in.  Though if Jy is not careful he's going to end up with a weird sleeping schedule (like Amber seems to have).

This comic has made me think of unPG things.

Shame on you Amber, shame on you.

Well, not the first time he's come across a naked Cubi (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_1007.php).  First his former crush, now his new crush...  the poor guy needs some relief soon.

The subconscious is a lot like fate, they both cheat at the cards. ;)

But this makes me wonder what others that don't actually sleep do to past the time in a house full of people that do need sleep. Just how do Deeb's and Mace pass the time when everyone else is asleep?

He was given the day off, I think, wasn't he?

Well, scary-shiny-Alexsi told him to relax in the den (http://missmab.com/Comics/Vol_1100.php) because he looked unwell, but she didn't explicitly give him the night off, I don't think. She may assume he's out sick (which is not entirely off the mark, poor cubi), and if she's still in sunshine-mode, she probably won't mind too much.

QuoteLooks like Abel has been inside longer than I thought, since it was day when he went in.

Well, from what Alexsi said in the strip I linked above, it was apparently just a bit after noon when she sent him to the den, so say that's 12:30 PM.

He vegged out in front of the TV for a while, argued with Dan, then got rousted out by Lorenda--figure at least an hour for all of that. So let's say he left at around 1:30 PM.

Then he spent "a good hour" (http://missmab.com/Comics/Vol_1132.php) flying around, looking for Jyrras's house. That puts his arrival at around 2:30 PM.

He ran away from Chicki, climbed in through the window, and talked to Jyrras until the latter fell asleep. Later, he told Jyrras that he'd been asleep for about ten hours (http://missmab.com/Comics/Vol_1171.php). Assuming that the whole sequence was about ten hours, that brings us to 12:30 AM.

He moved the laminator, talked to Jyrras for a while, decked Lorenda, got his mind blown in return, listened to Lorenda's explanation, and got wasted on 100-proof liquor. Even if we allow only an hour for all of that, it's still at least 1:30 AM when he finally passes out.

Abel has officially had one of those days. Tomorrow, he gets to start picking up the pieces of his brain, probably while sporting a hangover.

(Though I'll also spare a bit of sympathy for Jyrras--I hate to think how frustrated he must be right now.)

As far as distracting thoughts go, a naked Abel in your guest room would rank quite high on the distracto-meter.

Yeah, I think Jyrras and Lorenda can both vouch for him being sick now...

QuoteLater, he told Jyrras that he'd been asleep for about ten hours (http://missmab.com/Comics/Vol_1171.php).

That would be the bit I was missing.

I'm just enjoy a Jyrras and Abel fantasy?  And if Jyrras is still confused, he can have a female Abel, too...

'I believe' are the two key words here, he also came out as gay, despite the suggestion he could be bi, so the his possible orientation could be still be seen as gay/bi/ really confused.

Ah yes...However the point I was trying to make was that her plan B always being muffins does not mean she isn't all that bad. It is only a point in her favor if she shares. Besides which, even if it were a point in her favor the fact that she seems to have a habit of announcing her presence by clotheslining people with her wings seems to out weigh the muffins...

She only does that when people are running in the halls.  It's actually your fault if it happens to you.   :U

I thought we were talking about whether she's "broken," not whether she's "all bad."  It's been scientifically proven that if you're a broken person you can't enjoy muffins, therefor the fact that she enjoys muffins means that she's not [entirely] broken.   :B

Right... Did she knock Pyroduck[sp?] down with her wing or just by standing in front of him?

Well, now I'm wondering if it is fatal to try stealing her muffins...I'm guessing it is...

While your argument is valid, I believe it to be factually incorrect and thus unsound. (I'm taking Intro to Logic this semester and I JUST read about this in my textbook not ten minutes ago >.>)

The thought behind Fa'Lina being broken was that her entire clan is dead and she cannot have children anymore, which not only makes her the last of Clan Fa'Lina, but also gives her a trauma so big, to carry on her shoulders, that to some point, she must be broken inside. The fact that she has somehoe turned from utter despair, only speaks of her mental fortitude. Hence why i have always wanted more story with Fa'Lina, she's an intriguing character.

While it surprises me that anyone still studies logic, that pales compared to the astonishment I felt that facts might still be important. Maybe there's hope for us yet.

As for Fa'lina? She's a tragic heroine and a sympathetic character. Mother to all, right down to her muffins. Eccentric? Probably. Broken? I wouldn't say so. A person who gets back up and starts a new career after having been broken, is no longer entirely broken. Perhaps a bit cracked.

Yup, that was my point on her being broken.  But then again she is the ultimate survivor.  Even though she has lost EVERYTHING she keeps up and tries to make a difference and maybe fix some of the problems.  But we must remember that her affinity is that of hope.

Which is odd considering last I checked cubi can't self-feed. Seme clan cannot feed off of their own sadness, only that of others. Thus is does not make much sense for them to BE sad because of their affinity. Unless they're going for infectuous tears or something. Of course this clashes with Dan's affinity which apparently makes him strongest when fighting to protect others? I admit to being somewhat confused on this point.

You missed  point that Amber has stated before, The affinity is not what they must feed from but more like a favorite flavor of emotion.  To Seme's clan sadness might be like chocolate to us.

No, I got that. But Fa'Lina's affinity being hope doesn't necessarily translate to HER having hope. Just that she likes to feed off it.

They can, actually.  Amber once posted an example of a rage-based 'Cubi being walled in to execute them, and then emerging in an insane fury some centuries later when the building was demolished.
IIRC it's more like they're using the emotion as a catalyst to tap energy from some external cosmic source, so it doesn't break conservation of energy (I believe this was in the 'Comic time & conservation of energy' thread, but the link should be in the wiki somewhere).
