Post by: Tapewolf on August 10, 2010, 07:20:52 AM
I suppose that helps in a way - if Chicki is mad enough to believe Abel is a secret agent from the future, only the photos themselves will stand up to scrutiny.  And that's assuming they don't have photoshop.

Lets hope a certain dragon doesn't read newspapers, or Abel's dad for that matter, might turn up to 'ask' him why he wasn't had children yet.

Although I'm guessing Chicki writes for a certain kind of magazine, one that doesn't get high circulation figures.

I'm wondering if she's intentionally being a ditz to chase Abel off because she's working for Jyrras...

As funny as it is, I still think it's too perfect for there not to be ebil mastermind behind it all. (Oh well, maybe I'm thinking too much, Chicki is that much of a ditz, and I'm just sensing Amber's sense of humor bleeding though because I read too much drama.)

Jeeze; Chicki has been in, like, four comics and I already adore her!
I find it amusing that the first insectis we meet breaks the xenophobic stereotype presented on their Demonology 101 (http://www.missmab.com/Demo/insectis.php) page.

Quick, Abel! Pull a Melanion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_apple)! Toss fistfuls of your feathers behind you! Maybe she'll stop to gather them!

EDIT: Wikipedia link added for the curious. Look at the first story under "Greek Mythology"

Haha! That's the problem, it's not stupid!

I just can't decide if it's the Chicki's role to be that naive and it's Amber who's playing up a joke (making Amber the 'ebil mastermind'), or if the character Chicki is playing Abel for a fool. (Though that would still be Amber.)

It's just too perfect a setup for there not the be a intelligence behind it. What makes it so interesting is I can't decide more of a joke - Which would make Chicki a ditz - or if it's more of a plot - Which would make a Chicki mastermind or a puppet of one (Maybe "DeathBringer" as the puppet as Bjalf suggested?).

Little things like that is why ye forum goers are cursed with my two cents. DMFA crafted well enough to entertain me, make me want more, but doesn't update enough to answer all me questions! :) (Mayhaps that's the real evil plot!)

(whimper)

Intelligence, as apposed to a 'sheeple'. 'Sheeple' being a compound of 'sheep' and 'people'. Someone that has lost all will to think beyond what they're told to think or have seen. To the point they're no longer merely complaisant, they've given up the ability to even agree with someone to be complaisant. A personification of "monkey see, monkey do". Mentally indolent. Someone who doesn't stop to think about what they do, they merely do because someone else put a thought in their head to do that.

Someone that makes use of their god Given brain, as apposed to drifting though "9 to 5" with their brain in permanent "off" mode. Which I should point out, has nothing to with the size or functionality of someones' brain, only that they use it. (I get ticked at people when they say "I'm stupid". My failure with written languages not withstanding.)

As in, someone taking the time to think though something.

:tingle

A.K.A. Intelligence!

That is to say, the events of the last few comics where orchestrated in my someone or something with a deliberate effort, that could not happen by without a effort. That is, Either Amber wrote Chicki as a pawn of her or someone else to further the joke -OR- she wrote Chicki as her self masterminding some plot to throw Abel off-balance as a stepping stone to something else. That is, the quote "Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity." does not apply because things are too ordered for there not to be so sort of malice involved.

Trying to figure out which it is is fun! (I'm in the wrong crowd maybe?)

Perhaps I'd understand the question better if you, llearch n'n'daCorna, elaborated more. If I thought what I said was unclear I would have explained better; So, your questions a mystery to me. I do not understand it. (Hints me over compensating on my definition.) I've been faulted for leaving blanks for others to fill in, so I'm doing as told, and was trying to be clear.

I think "It's just too perfect a setup for there not the be a intelligence behind it." says the exactly what this entire post up to this point say. While I laugh along with the Benny Hill comments, I just don't have much to add to them.

----------------------
On another subject...
----------------------

Not I'm perfect. Granted I make many many grammar, spelling, and pronunciation mistakes. (It may take hours if I spot my mistakes at all.) 1rst grade to after college my ability to use any written language (outside programming) has always been very poor. To the point my teacher wanted to hold be back in 1rst grade of all things! That is to say, I have trouble written languages, but I'm always thankful when someone takes the time to correct me or ask for clarification. It allows me to improve me self, if ever so slightly.

Please don't antagonize me ("... Or should we just guess what you mean, and then abuse you for it?"). I like to be meek and timid, and have trouble with it some times. (ok, a lot of the time.) Do not think me toothless. I do not identify with a lion (Panthera Leo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panthera_Leo)) because I thought it was cuddly or have insecurity issues. I chose my predator carefully. Please do not antagonize me!

This is not the first time I have asked you,(That was a private message) Please let it be the last. Please? Please? If you have a problem with me, I do check to see if I have primate messages, send me one!

It's just too perfect a setup for there not the be a intelligence behind it.

Er... did you want to try that one again, coherently this time? Or should we just guess what you mean, and then abuse you for it?
As in, someone taking the time to think though something.
<SNIP>

Re-read the quoted sentence carefully. I'm pretty sure you either left a word out, or didn't say what you thought you did.

Seriously. I'm not jumping on you here, I'm politely trying to suggest that your sentence structure is somewhat lacking to the point that you're no longer comprehensible.

A lengthy explanation on what you mean by intelligence is welcome, but slightly mis-aimed. I wasn't criticising your meaning, but attempting to correct your typing. Take a few minutes, we'll wait. Honest.

Okay; lets back up a minute and stop with the running joke. Panther, you entirely missed the point. You missed it so hard you've shot out of orbit, sailed past mars and mercury and probably found alien life in the distant stars. (PS. Say hi for me.)

Really; if you have that much trouble structuring your sentences into a coherent and easily understandable format.. It might be well worth investing the time to sit back, re-read your post a few times. And then re-write it.

To be honest it's not like you lack effort; you type up a storm and a half. So why not just put that extra bit of effort into reading what people say, fixing up your writing and over all improving your communication; forums don't exactly go much faster than a snail. There's plenty of time for it.

And on another note; I'll just leave it for you to think about. But you do realize just how condescending, and down right insulting the majority of your posts content was, mmm? Don't go raving over an innocent; and valid complaint against some horrible grammar and then try to play the meek, victim.

First, I'm sorry for being ass. (And sorry for assuming you were being one, llearch n'n'daCorna.)

Yes, I have been told as much in the past. Yes, I know I can be! (trust me, you'd be afraid of how much I edit out.) I simply am. I can't say it though no fault of my own, but it's a fault of my own. I do not regard anything beyond anyone's ability to learn, so I do speak shamelessly with a "high and mighty" tone. Thank you for faulting me on this, I do seem to have a contempt for others when speaking.

I don't set out to set out to be, I'm simply "brutally honest" as my sig says. While I take the time to think about whom I offend, I simply refuse to take the time to step around someone's ego - Sadly my own seems exempt from that. Especially in forums, because it is written "in stone" for long periods of time, so people have time to study ,understand, and search the internet for additional information. That's the root of my contempt, I expect someone who doesn't understand to take the time to learn or simply ask me a question about what I've said. (Again, my poor language still not helping with that.)

I am sorry to be a ass. It is demeaning to be pitied, instead of simple told "I think you make a mistake <in these places>.", "I do not understand.", or asked "What did you mean by that?". I tend to interpret anything less as disrespectful, and lose my respect for others in return. I typically attempt to shoulder it and grin because "love is ... <see sig>, I just typically also fail at it. (Those three simple sentences will take you far with me, and with the world at large.)

As for what I meant to say? How about I just dropping and disappear for a day or three before I repeat this problem.

Allow me to be honest to a degree, i'm not gonna flame ya, but here's what i think one of the contentions are.. Your posts seem to be more blathering on (i.e: you virtually like to "hear the sound of your own voice") than actually getting your intent (or point) across, and often causing yourself to miss the point (often by miles) of what others are trying to get across.

my tip? keep your posts concise and to the point..

i'll just leave this here so my point is further reinforced.

con·cise
–adjective
expressing or covering much in few words; brief in form but comprehensive in scope; succinct; terse: a concise explanation of the company's retirement plan.

Okay, guys, be cool. The internet, while undeniably awesome, does have one major flaw: the lack of facial expressions and vocal tone greatly impedes communication. They've done studies on this.
Also, you never know if English is a formite's native language, or whether or not they have a condition that makes nonverbal communication more difficult (ex. dyslexia).
I know anonymity makes things much more impersonal, but on the other side of the computer, there is another person with feelings. Things meant to be sarcastic or humorous can be very hurtful without visual communication cues to soften the blow.

That said, isn't Abel a Doctor Who fan? (http://www.missmab.com/Comics/Vol_515.php) Maybe he can bluff his way out of this one.

That isn't a flaw, it's an advantage - it simplifies communication,  especially if you are no good at the above.
Also looking at a bunch of text allows you to better analyse what has been said, unlike a flow of noise from the other person.

The only disadvantage of internet communication is ninja'ing, especially in things like DnD, but even that is a minor thing and pretty funny sometimes

Though I wouldn't be surprised if she had "access" of some sort to a kind of hivemind.
They say ants have one such - Insectis - Ants - It's all good.

It could also open up for some fascinating and quite intertaining internal/external monologue. :)

So noted. I am getting flustered too easy. I do realize I share too much information (being honest does not just includes being honest about others). It is worth noting that much of what I said could be summed up: "Ok, your right. I screwed up. Here is why I screwed up. Here is why I'll try not to do it again, and sometimes Here is what you did to prompt it! Please notice the steam roller of a hint and we'll both be happier. (Remember I care about a person, their ego I do not.)" The tension just piles up too high when your the only one say saying "please, thank you, and sorry", and not one responds in kind. Instead I receive so some sympathy (though not whole wholly unwelcome), snarky remarks, and life advice. The point of being honest was to show I didn't need help (well, I need help, but not of the mortal kind). I am not a problem to be fixed. All I asked was civil tones, I have the ability to realize I can be at fault and fix the problem.  Even why when you drop hints AT EVERY TURN SENSE POST ONE. (How many is this later?) For the record, I while I do now fear I like the sound of my own voice too much, I was desperately looking for someone to:

"Look upward, and share in the wonders I've seen." - Farscape.

(sigh) This crowd that is not. Concise enough? Ok, curtsy of a response given. Good-bye for now, I don't enjoy sucking the fun out of the forum. :)

Please note this has been a malice free post. (And I do feel awkward for the number of times I called Amber by name being a married woman, but she is the creator of DMFA. It seemed rude to credit the creator with the authority due and not call her by name. I've spoken it dozen of times sense my first post, and I've seen it spoken by others maybe three times, by separate people.)

QuoteIf I speak in the tongues of men and angles, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I have gain nothing.

Love is patient, love it kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; Then I shall known fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Why does it need to get to this again?

PantheraLeo, i think if you didn't prod the whole thing it would have died now. Some people will not like you no matter what you do, it's like that with  everyone, so there's little use in trying to "explain yourself".
Just let the remarks over your head - the only one important in this particular thing was Boxy and all he had was a few grammar remarks.
(i understand where you are coming from though - when i get rolling it can look bad too)

Some new interesting theories would be more interesting by the definition of it, and i must say that yours are among the best stuff since the start of the year (when i joined :D)

Allow me to be honest to a degree, i'm not gonna flame ya, but here's what i think one of the contentions are.. Your posts seem to be more blathering on (i.e: you virtually like to "hear the sound of your own voice") than actually getting your intent (or point) across...

You haven't. You're different, new, and people are responding to you. Expecting anything more is like walking into a convention for someone else and expecting everyone to instantly know who you are and be applauding you for your mere presence.

Seems to me that's a little, uh, excessive, no? Show up, talk to people, get to know them, then maybe you'll get some more positive responses. Worst case, you'll find out we're not the people you thought we were, and decide to go elsewhere. Either way, wouldn't it be wise to at least give it some time, first?

As for sharing the wonders we've seen... you think we save them until people appear? Most of the wonders have already been posted, elsewhere in the forum. If you read every single post, then you'll probably start to get bored (I know I did), but there's some that might interest you in the Treasury, at least. On the other hand - you didn't ask anyone to share, you just wandered in and started posting. We're not mind readers...

I don't think anyone would want to be a mindreader on these forums, especially given most of the folks around here... :shifty
