Title: The Brag Thread.
Post by: Aridas on January 01, 2007, 02:01:32 AM
Go ahead. Brag. I'm not stopping you. Just be sure you state what you're bragging about. Like so:

NINTENDO SIXTY FOOOOOOOUR
I finally got an S rank in Ready Steady Go (Known to many as "the FMA theme"), hard difficulty, on "Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan" (it's for the DS) a couple days ago. So yeah. I'm a little happy. >.>
Linkies (no story is spoiled except for the background of the play area >.>) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OLsnHRsm6w)

So go on, tell us how much of a loser with no life you are your great gaming accomplishments.

According to SkorCard.net, I'm one of the top 50 Halo racers in the world. :D  Gunners always get first, but I always drive. :cry

Uhhhhhh, does being really awesome at Super Smash Bros. (both versions) count? I also got all the trophies in Melee (except the one where you had to have a save file for some racing game).

Hmm, getting 100% in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask isn't that big of a thing; all my friends did it too.

My Xbox accomplishment list is absolutely abysmal. The only game I bothered to be really awesome at was Crimson Skies. I'm only decent at Halo and don't play very many other games.

A huge "FAIL" on my list was being addicted to World of Warcraft for a few months. Fortunately, I quit that bad habit and instead post on forums and stuff.   :B

I can run through the first available jump puzzle in Maplestory (2d platformer MMORPG) (the "john's pink flower basket" quest, sleepywood) without taking a single point of damage.

I don't quite know how impressive that should be.

I ought to get some program to record it so I can post it to youtube.

well, depends on what you define as absolutely nessesary; there are a few places where I stop moving for a few seconds to let the fireball things synch up properly.

If you know of a good program for taking movies of game play, I'll make one and post it to youtube.

(I also am at the point where I'm not allowed to finish the puzzle by double-clicking on the flowers, probably nexon doesn't want me getting so much ore  :cry )

I once defeated Sephiroth on Proud Mode at Lv 47. I didn't use Trinity Limit, no cheats, and I think I used the Sleeping Lion Key-chain.
Anybody who's fought him in KH II knows how hard he is, and I've not seen anybody else do it below lv 49 yet. soooo....

I have done many strange and terrible things but these are my favourites:

Killing the immortal Lord British in Ultima 6 (because he was part of the copy-protection scheme).
Using a quirk of the party gathering system to flick one of my followers across the moat thereby escaping from the castle and circumventing said copy-protection system.  (Hey, I own three legal copies of it now!)

Completing Ultima 9 by crossing the ocean on bridges out of bread and thereby completing the quests in the order I wanted rather than the order Origin tried to enforce.

Doing the same for the far more complex Serpent Isle, a joint effort with my brother.

Drake, wow, you have my praise for that achivement. Sephiroth was a pain in the you know what! I never did defeat him sadly x-x;

Lesse here, brags. On my first run trhough of Okami I managed to get all of the karmic transformers. (Though sadly, that Master Blockhead quest still eluded me)

On We love Katamari I ended up rolling a ball so large it had to be seen from space :3

I completed a lap at Isle of Man with the AAR Eagle without crashing. This is hard.
I've won a 6-vs-1 and a 7-vs-1 in Counterstrike in Dust1. The 7-v-1 was using the TMP, which is hard. The 6-v-1 was using the M249. That was also hard.

I think one of my greatest acheivements yet has been completing the first level of Metal Slug 3 without dying once. Given the sheer nature of the Metal Slug series, I'd say that's quite a feat. :P

Other than that, I can't say I've done much else worthy of merit. :<

Return when you have played and finished all of them, in one sitting, with no pee breaks, immediately after downing 2 gallons of coke.  >:3

I have beaten Castlevania, Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest, Life Force: Salamander, Gremlins 2, Double Dragon 2: The Regenve, and The Adventures of Lolo (1 and 2) on the NES, and everyone knows that NES-games are much harder then  todays sissified games, whish are now little more than movies where you have to press a button every now and then. </elitist bastard>

Let's see. I've owned an original NES, a Super Nes, Playstation, and PS2. So far, to date, I've beaten every game I've ever played with no cheat codes whatsoever, save for my newest five.  (Hey, one I've only had for a couple of days...)

Yeah, even with several hundred games, that's not really impressive either...

Heretic. On black plauge difficulty (for those who don't know, that's the hardest difficulty in the game). up to the end of episode three. and not only did I complete that without dying once, I killed every enemy in every level and found every secret room. That's some serious fps bragging rights right there.

in other old game news, I've beaten tyrian 2000 on suicide difficulty (h8 the fleet level on episode 5), one must fall on it's hardest difficulty, all 9 episodes of jazz jackrabbit (which is no small feat, even on easy).

all of this is without cheats, of course. and I'm making good progress on my metroid prime 2 hard run (I recently got the dark visor).
Title: Re: The Brag Thread.
Post by: Aridas on January 02, 2007, 02:26:23 AM
Starting from suicide? Or otherwise? I'm pretty sure as you play through again and again on the same saves it gets there on its own. Speaking of Heretic... I'd play through that again but not without something like jdoom, it's more fun then >.>

I've done all 4 of Doom's episodes on U-V, still would need to do nightmare and I can't remember if I beat Doom 2 as well... Maybe I did.
Title: Re: The Brag Thread.
Post by: Kitsune Ascendant on January 02, 2007, 02:42:31 AM
pretty sure I started on suicide difficulty. I think it increases one level per playthrough of all episodes, so when I last left it I was working on my Lord of the game playthrough. I've found that despite being the lowest costing of the three uber front weapons, the laser is slightly better than the zica laser. lightning cannon isn't that good. too much power drain for not enough damage.

I personally prefer hyper pulse, sonic wave set to shoot forward, two zica flamethrowers, and SDF Main Gun as the special weapon. Nothing's gotten by me yet.

I've almost beat Little Nemo the Dream Master and Battle Toads.  If you don't understand why almost beating these games is impressive, then you are too young  >:3

Though I have to great Halo stories.  Once I was banned from a server for hacking, killing everyone left and right.  I never hacked.  Ever.

Though there was a time when people would flee from UT2k4 when I logged onto the server.

Though the best flag from Halo was the PC version of the map sidewinder.  I had cloaking and a flame thrower in the other team's base.  Before I can grab their flag they get our flag.  The normal thing here is for me to grab their flag too and then we have a stalemate until someone gets the flag back.

I just waited there.  With the flame thrower.  In the corridor to their flag.  Invisible.

The other guy who has our flag was running through, probably thinking, "Wheee!  I'm gonna score a point!"  Enter my flame thrower.  I call him Trogdor, the burninator.  He got burninated.  I grabbed our flag then took theirs.  I climb up to the top of their base and left through the teleporter.  Apparently one of our snipers was just taking up position there.  I pretty much had a free run to our base to score a point.

Fun. I was once playing Blood Gulch CTF on a slightly modded version (more weapons, and supershield/cloak coming out the ears) so I was riding back and forth on Ghosts to avoid being noticed, caught or shot (invisible person on a Ghost. Irony?). I scored a hat trick for the team and we won that match. :U

People smartened up after then, however.

I don't have much to brag about really...Myst III is the only Myst game played so far that I haven't just went to GameFAQs for beating it...the original Myst probably counting, although I used the in-game hints.

While some of us are on the subject of pokemon, I've encountered mew in yellow, gameshark-free.

I have also heard some of the nuttiest rumors concerning that game. trouble is, I actually believed a few of them. like there's supposed to be a secret area where you use strength on a boulder in brock's gym, and it will reveal a stairway, and in this area you can catch any pokemon, including mew and (this should have tipped me off) togepi.

Now here is a good oldie I almost forgot about.  Tribes 2.

This was around the time a group of us discovered the advantages of logging in all at the same time to the same server on the same team.  At first it was some fairly simple stuff, two of us would get the Juggernaut armor, a third with scout armor, and just a rain of laser guided mortars.
But then a bad thing happened.  I figured out how to sneak into the other team's base with the juggernaut on the ice map.  From there it was nearly impossible to get the juggernaut out until he runs out of ammo.  So a new plan was devised.  The guy who was formerly in scout armor now took juggernaut armor.  Two of us had shields, for extra survival.  The third had an item station.  So now there were three juggernauts, with nearly unlimited ammo, running around a defenseless base, cleaning house.  All this well before the net meme, "I'm in u r base, I'm killing u r mans!"

Another classic story did not actually happen to me.  It happened to a pair of my friends but it was more then amusing enough.  I shall call them G and B.  Back in the old Ultima Online days, before it was ruined.  They had just gotten their first boat.  G had the compulsive need to organize everything.  Over organize really.  Bags in bags in bags in bags in bags...
So G was looking for the boat key and didn't know where he put it in his bag structure.  This can take a good half hour to search through.  So B was waiting for him to find the key to get on the boat.  Two thieves snagged the key.  They unlock the boat and get on.  B sees the boat unlocked and gets on too.  The thieves get on the boat and takes it out to sea.  Their plan is to redeed the boat and sell it.  B was not about to let that happen.  So the thieves told B, "Teleport off the boat or we will kill you."

So now there are two thieves on the boat and a ghost.  You still can't redeed a boat with a ghost on it.  So the thieves leave.  So now there is a ghost, on a boat, all alone, in the middle of UO.  When the GM finally showed up he was very amused by the whole story.

Sorry that both of these weren't really bragging, other then owning the hell out of some defenseless newbs on Tribes.

I guess the only two that come to mind right now are:
1) Smash Bros: I played as a random character, Mario (whom I stink with), and played against 3 of my friends with all of them on a team. Aaaaalmost won. But I fell off...

2) Zelda Wind Waker: I was under that island in that cave where there's three tunnels that pour in enemies wave after wave. I went through the whole thing, and I got down to the final 3 darknuts. I was low on health but I figured, meh, I got a fairy. Well, after the fight, I had half a heart left, and I went to check my status screen to deequip my mask that shows enemies health. Come to find, I'm fairyless. That was a nice surprise...

Ahh, UO. One of the more 'hardcore' MMOs. When I was new (Could not be attacked) I found a fenced-in area where people would go to PvP grand melee style. I would hang around there with my high-str warrior-type person and, when people died, I would wait for loot rights to go off (The area was FAR away from any town or healer so it was a long walk) and loot peoples corpses for anything profitible I could find. I was one of the richest people on my shard just from spending about a day looting people and seeling the stuff I could not need or did not want. I also had a halberd and full plate even though I was a newbie. Boy did I tick off alot of people! :)

In Castlevania Aira of Sorrow, I've got to level 96 with 9,999,999 gold and all wepons you can get.

And also, in another CV game, Harmony of disonance, after getting to level 48, (for me it was) you only get 1 exp per monster killed, and with thousands of exp to level up each time after, I'm level 56. And I've played Aira longer. Go figure.

Define "beat".  I beat Cheetahmen, but only by using savestates; level five is murder, man...

I did rip a bunch of sprites, though.  Not sure why.  Maybe I could use them in that "Crisis 52" comic that's been bopping around my head somehow, on the off chance that I get to it at all.

StarFox 64 : taking on all 3 of my friends (after telling them to team up against me, which they did) and still winning. For extra showoff points I switched from Arwing to tank to on foot after each death. Yeah, it was close at the end but hey, it was a blast. =)
Final Fantasy 8: maybe an oddity not accomplisment: The fight where you are Lagun and co. fighting a ruby dragon on the movie set (way harder than what you had been encountering.) I had Odin show up.
FF8 again: I somehow landed Pain on Bahamut. It was hilarious watching this huge dragon try to hit me but miss every time. =) That and meltdown made for an easy fight.

Oh, right, FF8! How could I forget that... x_x
Ahem...
Pulling of Zell's two weakest moves, each faster than .03 on the clock. Given the huge amount of time I had, this led up to enough damage to kill Final Boss- Stage 1 in a single hit. Then, on Stage 2, I had a nice Lionheart waiting, which promptly took the Boss to Final Boss- Stage 3, where I had a The End waiting. Quickest boss fight ever. For me, at least...

I just beat Minesweeper on expert. This is probably the highlight of my entire life.

I earned the invisible cheat on Goldeneye for the 64.
That is probably, in my opinion, the hardest thing to unlock in a game, ever.
(Actually, I unlocked evey cheat in that game and beat it on every difficulty, but thats niether here nor there.)

And yes, Minesweeper is incredably hard.
I haven't beaten it on expert yet.... But I have been OH so close >.<

I beat Devil may cry, the first one, on Dante must Die with a perfect S rank back in the day. Dunno if that's all that great or not, but I think that's the best I've ever done.

I guess there's also Halo 2 on legendary, but that's more a test of one's patience than actual skill. I didn't think Tartarus would EVER die.

how about proving wrong the theory that the mouse+keyboard is not unsurpassable by analog controllers in terms of precision by giving several headshots straight in Goldeneye 007 without the aim function?  >:3

and the other day I finished the first 3 levels of Quake 1 without getting a single hit

Wait, people liked auto-aim in Goldeneye?

is not the auto-aim I was talking about but the aim button, which helped making the aim more precise by focusing only on aim itself not turning. now you've remembered, I had the auto-aim turned off back then >:3

however the auto-aim could be auite useful because it detects far away enemies that aren't visible yet due to the fog.

Oh, I get it.

Yes, auto-aim could be useful, but not in close battles... or when explosives were involved.

I just got through both cargo bays in SS2 with 10 health, and no psi points(playing as OSA, fun). I almost gave up when I somehow managed to get an autosave between two maintenance bots. Somehow, I got out of that one. Without my speedboosts, I'd never have gotten out of that'un.

I got the Magical Pistol on System Shock 2, learning Standard Weapons just to use it. I have to wonder how the hell a bug like that got in.

The pistol on Command that not only does not degrade or break, but has no recoil.
