Wait a minute here, the way Fa'Lina's talking it almost sounds like Pyro is her son. WTF? :erk
Probably just a figure of speech, and Pyro is probably just a long friend of Fa'lina...
I think it's just motherly. </reference to old arc>
Fa'Lina's really getting some nice expressions in this arc. Especially here in the second and third panels.
Since I didn't follow the other threads of this encounter, I can't and won't comment on the possible implications.
This, I enjoy.

Same here..
It just seems to me that Fa'lina likes to be a sort of wacky mother-figure to everyone that she knows well. She gave Dan cookies after all. Just the sort of person to run a school.
Anyway. Today's comic is quite cute. Maybe the first and last time we see a Cubi hugging a dragon. :3
Hehe, Falina tail wag, thats kinda cute, and scary...
If of course it's literal, we're talking about Fa'Lina being an adopting machine. Looking at this comic I realize again how hyooge Fa'Lina is, having at least an entire head-height over Pyro. I wonder if she plays basketball.

EDIT: Thank you, Aridas.
Obviously Fa'Lina traveled back in time, had an affair with Dark Pegasus, which spawned a.... thing, which then went on to breed with creature after creature, then finally had one who had a thing for dragons, thus producing Pyro. So you see, it's all relative. Relatively speaking.
So for reference--here are the options:
1.) Fa'Lina is Ducky's biological mother
2.) Fa'Lina is Ducky's adoptive mother (in a real, and legally binding sense)
3.) Fa'Lina is Ducky's adoptive mother (in a metaphoric sense, much like Julius Caesar adopted Augustus yes, yes, that was legally binding, too)
It seems pretty from the way that Fa'Lina is acting that she doesn't mean this in an oblique way, and she probably wouldn't do the same thing with Dan or Abel. This also makes it clear that Fa'Lina's clan is not at odds with the dragons.
Also, this would probably mean that Pyro is younger than Fa'Lina.
(Sorry, I just love saying Ducky. I have the feeling that it would piss Pyro off, and since I can hide behind my computer screen and the fact that he's a fictional character, I'm doing it.)

Fa'Lina makes me happy on the inside... in my spleen.

EDIT: You must also keep in mind that Fa'Lina's idea of helping is a fist in the chest.
yep. That's real love for you.
Well this is a totalt surpize....The only loving for me she blew me straight to kingdom come :<
Quote from: Blade Fox on December 28, 2006, 11:03:19 PMfrom hostile to friendly to calling him Ducky?
Well, to be fair, when you're 9000 years old and have lots of power at your disposal, clotheslining someone who is more powerful than you are is probably not as hostile as it would sound.
It seems more that she 'adopts' various folks. Quite possibly rooting back to what we learned in the fractured history lesson we recieved, where her clan was wiped out and she brought the others together. Made her a little motherly towards many folks... though still not what I'd call a model parent in the least. ;)
I think it's pretty weird coming from Falina being all motherly towards Ducky. I have my suspicions on her on the matter of the Dragons and Dan etc. Either she is trying to protect the line of Destina or making Dan destroy the Dragons to have a very strong line in the future generations to come. I still don't trust Falina in any case she's up to something I just know it. And she goes crazy when Duck mentions him and Alexsi as a possible girlfried for that Ducky awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
2 thoughts:
1) So Pyro's relationship with Alexi wasn't actually intended/known (I mean, intended by Fa'Lina, with her semi-omnipotence, there was a 1/2 chance she would know of the relationship beforehand)?
2) Actually, this might explain the coincidence of their same eye-colour..
Fa-Lina scares me... :<
That aside, I really feel sorry for Pyro in this arc. Even though this is the most "screen-time" he's had since his introduction in "Twinks", it just seems like he is suffering for most of it.
From his torture here to getting beaten up by Abel, it looks like "Ducky" is definitely getting the "Dan Treatment" here! >:3
You guys will overly look into everything. She's just calling him "Her Baby" as one who is simply older than/considers themselves a guiding figure to/would rather like to annoy whoever they're talking to. She's just being Fa'Linaish.
Yeah, woah. Was she that tall the last time we saw her? I mean, in his disguise as a weasal Pyro would be kinda short, but this is getting a tad silly.
Fa'Lina's expressions perked up my day. :3
The "hydra-style secrets" went over my head though. Could someone explain?
Quote from: ShiningShadow on December 28, 2006, 11:10:18 PMEither she is trying to protect the line of Destina
Well, that's not too hard to believe. Let's say, for example, that you were friends with one of the last surviving relatives of Hitler. You find out that a Czech national is out to kill him. Does it matter whether or not you believe that the invasion of the Sudetenland was a good idea? Probably not. You'd just get your friend out of harm's way.
Likewise, Fa'Lina knows that a close associate of hers has a kid who may be threatened by an enemy. She might not agree with the ethnic cleansing that Cyra is planning. Indeed, it sounds like she doesn't. But that doesn't mean that she wouldn't protect a friend.
It may be that Fa'Lina is, say, Pyro's aunt. Not a direct blood connection, but perhaps she married a dragon, and that dragon's brother is Pyro's dad.
Quote from: Roureem Egas on December 28, 2006, 11:25:11 PMThe "hydra-style secrets" went over my head though. Could someone explain?
Explain one secret, two others appear.
(Last I checked, there were still a few relatives of Hitler living. They don't like Great Uncle Adolf, and have all taken an oath never to have kids.)

In my opinion, not a lot is on the WikuWiki, such as info about Dragons.
Fa'Lina has always been huge. She has always stood a head above everyone else. Except Dark Pegasus. She is shorter than he is.
What I find interesting is that she did not know about Pyroduck living at Lost Lake. This leads me to believe that she also does not know the connection between Dan and Pyroduck. Her semi-omniscience must be failing her.
EDIT: It has been stated that Fa'Lina has somewhat adopted Abel. We now know that Pyroduck is Fa'Lina's adopted son. Does that make Abel and Pyro brothers?
*Charles hmms* Pyro is a dragon, and thus has power of his own. And besides, Fa'lina has other things to do besides watch him all the time. She's only semi-omnpotent, after all. :3 But one thing is clear, Destania's clan certainly seems to have had some very troubling times for Fa'lina to speak of it as a killing zone! I don't think Fa'lina would have any problem with Pyro and Alexsi, since Alexsi isn't a blood relative of Destania. She might take issue with Dan and Pyro though... but how likely is that to happen?
*Charline hmms* Pyro and Dan, eh? An idea presents itself! >:3 *mixes some 'Love Potion #9' in two flagons of ale* Oh Daaaanyyy! Pyyyrooo! I have soem drinks for you twooooo!
*Charles ack!* Is there no limit to her evil?! :eek
I just noticed something: Fi's missing! Where did Fi go? :mowsad
That was such a great strip. :)
It's just her being her as has been said. I'm sure she'd say the same thing or something similar about Abel since she has for all intents and purposes "adopted" him in the platonic sense.
She probably did something similar with Pyro, and like a caring friend/mentor wants to know what's going on with him and cares a lot about said things.

Yeah, well there are snags of course... eating souls is about the only way you'd make 7000 from what I understand, and with all that time on your hands you could very easily start thinking in different timescales. You might end up sulking for three hundred years or something.

im wondering why the boyfriend/girlfriend thing even applies anymore. to me it seems like people in lost lake should just give up, wear tie dye everything, and frolic semi-naked in the flowers while proclaiming something about 'free love'.
it seems like more and more people today have a really hard time to just sit down, concentrate, and understand what they really feel, who they have feelings for, and judge the depths of those feelings. and hopefully understand that if those 'feelings' have changed over the course of one week or can be dashed cause somebody picks thier teeth with a fork or forgets they borrowed your shirt....i would question the depths of your feelings.
after the utter nonsense i just babbled i still have to admit that the way ducky and jyjy are handling thier relationships are sadly typical of real people. kudos for reality.
ya know, maybe my outlook on life is why i never had a girlfriend untill the day my wife asked if i would date her for valentines day... yes, she asked me and i was too stunned to even repply untill a week later. oh well, at least i missed out on the really immature relationships which introduce middle schoolers to asprin.

*Charline nods!* Can I be in it? :3
Brunhidden is quite right about people's confused and uncertain emotions. Everything is very surface these days; too much attention is paid to physical attraction and simple lust rather than any more permanent and stable emotional state. A girl you shack up with because you got drunk at a party and were too mentally impaired to control yourself is not 'being in love'. People get married after a few weeks or months, even though they barely know anything about each other. And then, surprise surprise, they find out they don't get along at all! Or the girl finds out that the guy is a pathologically violent wife-beating drug-addict with 12 childhood rape convictions that were erased because the insane child justice system believes that children get 'all better' after age 21 and so no one needs to know the horrible things they've done.
Simply put. Trust no one! Assume everyone is a serial killer when you first meet them and force them to prove you wrong. That's how to avoid bad relationships... or, well actually that kinda puts an end to virtually every relationship unless you can find someone who's also that anal-retentive and paranoid. Then you can both hide in the basement with your foil hats on together! :3

to answer someone's question: You call your half-sister's adoptive mother-in-law "Alexi's MIL Falina" (for example). They are not anything to you.
For example, my brother George is getting married in June to Cari. Cari will be my sister-in-law. Her parents will be George's Mother/Father-in-law. To me they will be the weird people George is now related to by marriage.
Well, as long as she isn't only his Father's Wife, then it gets akward.
Ace: Good grief I bet that mood swing was faster then Dan's. Also who needs a hose when you can use the water element like me? *Forms a ball of water in his right hand.*
Me: Well atleast that blasted serum is out of my system, no thanks to Charline for injecting me with it in the first place though. >_>; Anyway I hope Dan doesn't use the nickname Ducky to tease Pyro at times.
...Ok, somehow I get the feeling Fa'Lina isn't really Pyro's mother, though, knowing her as intimatly as I do (:mowwink), she very well may think of herself that way. What I'm wondering is, how did they first meet, and why didn't one kill the other, if Dragon/Cubi relations are as bad as it seems they are?

So how perverted you want? :mowcookie
Neither the time nor the place for that.
I'm just going to go out on a limb and say that demonic Pink Poodle has a mothering complex and therefore see's everyone that she likes as a child of hers in a sense.

I dunno. If I were a shapeshifting creature thousands of years old, I would grow a few warts, make a few shiny patches of skin, develop a hacking cough, that sort of thing.
Better for business, you know.

Not if you were vain, you wouldn't. You'd keep yourself as pretty and physically appealing as you could.
On a slight side note, what does MILF stand for again? I forget.

Getting somewhat back on topic.
How old was Pyroduck when Fa'Lina adopted him? Was she the one who gave him the name Pyroduck?

back a page, 7th from the bottom...
Personally, I find the fine lines that result from facial expression to be somewhat attractive, especially compared to a face that is almost alien in it's smoothness.
I guess that Falina would have to pick a look that she finds attractive, if she's going around with an altered appearance on a regualr basis
Quote from: Caswin on December 29, 2006, 11:08:40 AM
Yup. Fa'Lina's big. She'd make a good fighting game boss. *Wink wink nudge nudge to self*
Anyone know how tall Amber is?
Probably best not to ask, and Ill probably get thwacked later for it but, I shall give you an image to wrap around your head:
"Hey mommy, look at the little midget girl over there."
"Now honey, its not nice to call people midget, they prefer little people."
Sorry Amber, I'm just joking, please dont smite me.
Can we all have a moment of silence for Teroniss, please?
Not from Amber, mind. It's from all her defensive fans. :-)
Oh Terooooooniiiiss... *taps the edge of her morningstar mace against her palm* I have a surprise for youuuuuu...

Actually, the proximate cause of the quote was probably Granny Weatherwax, who was cursed with supple skin. I just read that part of Wyrd Sisters and it probably came from that.
But yes, Cellblock B (http://www.eviloverlord.com/lists/dungeon_a.html) of Pete Anspach's Evil Overlord List includes this directive:
202. All crones with the ability to prophesy will be given free facelifts, permanents, manicures, and Donna Karan wardrobes. That should pretty well destroy their credibility.
P.S. I rather like the advice from the fortuneteller in Mostly Harmless, ``All I can suggest is that if you take decisions that are exactly opposite to the sort of decisions that I've taken, then maybe you won't finish up at the end of your life in a smelly old cave like this!''
Well I don't know... there's probably some advantage to people thinking you're young and therefore underestimating you. Also, a young appearance can convey strength in some situations.

I have a thought was Falina ever was married. Imagined her with a husband doing the wild thang *just Joking here don't smite me please*. Anywho now I know that Pyro has a adoptive mother. It still bothers me about this I think she needs to knows about the dragons how to get this info why adopt a dragon which is Pyro. I still don't trust Falina and I never will.

I don't see what the point of adopting someone as a method of reconnaissance would be. Surely, there would be better methods. Say, invite the Creature Council to tea. Or kidnap a mutual friend and set out to free him, slowly insinuating your influence over the Dragon members of the party and discovering their secrets. Or follow a dragon home and knock him out by gassing him through a keyhole and then taking him to a village where you can do high-pressure interrogations...
P.S. Could you try maybe using a little more punctuation? I'll see if I can't get Mr. Period out here to help.
I wouldn't trust Fa'Lina as far as I can throw her, too, but that doesn't automatically mean that if she adopted someone not from her species that it has to be an abusive (or even just usive) relationship. In fact, her reaction in the last panel indicates some honest feelings, even if they are somewhat influenced by her evil personality. :mwaha
Still, who could ever know when Fa'Lina is honest and when not?
Reliable, yes, often. Honest? No!

Well if you put it that way maybe she's up to something. I could not know what it is but I assured you that she doing something big and Pyro dosen't know it.
Has Fa'Lina ever actually lied in the comic? I don't recall her ever not telling some form of the truth or her own opinion.
Quote from: Meech on December 31, 2006, 10:30:48 PMHas Fa'Lina ever actually lied in the comic? I don't recall her ever not telling some form of the truth or her own opinion.
I am pretty sure that she has. I'll have to look, but I think she did so when she was talking to Dan at SAIA.
I haven't looked it up, but I say that Fa'Lina is powerful enough that she doesn't need to lie!
Nah...Shes always modist...Even when it painfuly hurts
Yeah but she tends to omit things for her benefit for something she is planning. That's why I don't trust her is the way she carries herself as a arrogant powerful Cubi has no equal till now when Dan comes to the picture. I have this uneasy feeling whatever she is planning it will blow up in her face.
Now you're not making any sense...
I checked pyroduck's cast page it sais Fa'Lina adopted him so she is and is not his mom. :boogie (go mee go mee it's your birthday) sorry it's because I'm getting an ipod.
Maybe Pyroduck adopted Fa'Lina as his mother. [[...to sneak into the Cubi-Society and annihilate them from within! :mwaha]]

That is something I have not considered. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm the intrigue and the deceptions never ends. Something is going to happen very quick and deadly.
Sorry for the bump.
Panel three looks to have a typo. "I didn't intend to stay ... it just that"
Probably should be "I didn't intend to stay ... it's just that"
There's a pm function you can use to send a private message to Amber.
Pretty much any typo is probably better dealt with sent directly to her, rather than simply commenting directly in here.
And it's only polite to give her a chance to fix it, isn't it?
Sheesh.
