Any one ever try this one?

Far Gate is an RTS this time set in space but unlike most this one is truely 3D.  Which of course presents a whole new series of problems for you.

In the game there are 3 races but only one story line.  As you play you move from race to race (although I don't know if you ever play the Entrodii in story mode) as the story progresses.

The races are human, Nue-Guyen, and Entrodii.

Humans are of course familier.

The Nue-Guyen are a massive race of living starships.  Boilogical creatures who are born in space.  looking like insects or deep sea creatures they have evolved differnt casts to preform differnt tasks for the collective.

The Entrodii are a race of living crystals, they grow there weapons to suit there purposes.

Each differnt race's base is cetered around a central hub.  For humans it's a Wheel and spoke space station,  you build onto the station radiating out from the spokes  (the other races bases are build on the same principle but with differnt uses).  Defenses are actualy build above and below the junctions of the station units.  I like to alternate turrent types.  so if one junction has a upwards facing lazer it'll have a downwards facing chaff luancher (alternating at the next juncture).   Small ships are built in the hanger for larger units you'll need a shipyard. When playing humans you'll have a variaty of units both millitary and non at your disposal.  Utility pods mine resources from asteriods, and repair damaged units.  Tugs are used to move objects that can not otherwise move, prefab kits (to build new stations), mining platforms, defense satalites, or even asteriods (for easier mining) if you want. Probes can extend the range of your radar.  Millitary units range from single man interceptors armed with a small lazer, to full sized capital ships like cruisers and carriers.

My personal favorite ship is called the patrol boat  It's got a dsent turn of speed and is extreamly manuverable.  It also has no forward facing weapons.  on each side of the ship is a rappid firing gun turrent,  the turrents can move up and down the sides of the ship and can fire above and below its axis. so instead of going head to head with your targets your weaving in and out of the dog fights, riddling your enemies with armor peircing rounds.

The story is fairly engaging with very good voice actors.

The story starts out with the end of the great terran war.  The solar system was finaly unified under one government the terran empire.  Soon after the war ended the emporear looking to expand his reach sent out a massive probe to Sol's nearest nehbor, proxima centuari.  7 years later the populace was shocked by a release of the news that the wayfarer prob had found a habital planet orbiting proxima.  Imediatly the goverment formed an expidition to to colonise this new planet and expand the empire.  7 years out the colonists and there military escorts reached proxima orbit just as you, Jacob Viscero, an ex-black-market smuggler is concripted to head up the proxima defense force.  It seams the colonists don't fully trust there millitary escorts.  And for good reason.  Apon reaching the system the millitary cruisers peel off heading to there own destination leaving the colonists orbiting a deadly world that would never suport human life.  It seams the colonists were simply a cover for the military,  when the wayfarer probe passed threw the system it located an anomoly,  a stable wormhole.  So the goverment faked the news of the habital planet to send an armada with out the public realising there true purpose.  As a bonus the goverment selected the colonists to send choosing from the population the free thinkers, criminal, radicals and any one the genetic census deemed would cause trouble for the government.  as the millitary aproach the wormhole  first contact happens and the Nue-Guyen pour from the worm hole imeaditly attacking the terran armada.

the game follows the colonists as they fight to survive the attacks by first one alien race then anouther all the while trying to get back to earth and take revenge on the government that betrayed them.  There are twists along the way, as varous factions form aliances or break them.

personaly I love this game.  It's yet anouther one I fished out of the bargin bin.
anyone else play?
