Is that a periodic table of the magic elements I see in panel 3?

D'ymkarra

I also notice in the 3rd panel, young DP has strikingly similar markings to Kria; Perhaps the stripes are something that fade with age?

I figured it was part of his makeover, with the fake horns and stuff...

Either he had paint-on tattoos in his youth, or, yeah, black tattoos to hide his stripes when he had to horns added.

IIRC they were actually surgically implanted, whatever they are actually made from.

Hmm, I'm kind of curious about the party now.  Whether it was a typical student affair or whether they demolished half the dormitory in the process...

I think this tells us a fair bit about D.P, the fact that he considers even the briefest social interaction a regret, even for a demon that's fairly maladjusted.

I'd been wondering that myself.  However, aside from the fact that it's oddly framed and under glass, it's not organized the same as our own.  For example, the first row normally only has Hydrogen and Helium, but in this case has at least three elements.  Period 2 (and possibly 3?) appears to be missing the nonmetals.  If the next row down is Period 3, then there's extra transition metals...

So I was waiting to see if the forums would start speculating on the nature of atomic forces and theory in the DMFA universe, based on that table.  For example, the first row corresponds to the first orbital in an atom, which in our universe only holds 2 electrons, but in this one may hold more... :P

I would be gobsmacked if Amber has planned the universe down to the quantum level.

Speaking of species, since both Aliph and Kria have stripes, I can't help but wonder if they're more closely related to zebra or at least zorses instead of just horses.

In my opinion, the messed up periodic table in the background is more artistic license than Amber actually planning out unique energy states for electrons in her universe.
Maybe she didn't properly research the periodic table before drawing that one in the background or just found drawing it to complete accuracy to be too much of a challenge, although she could have just copy/pasted one from the internet right into the background.

Oh, I fully understand that -- heck, it's even debatable whether or not it's a periodic table.  (It occurred to me that it could be one of those "Graduating Year of XXXX" pictures at I see at the university, a collection of photos from a specific year.)

The thought more occurred to me because it seems at times the forums are quite willing to discuss esoteric minituae regarding the setting based on the briefest of hints in the comics. :3  (Witness the whole discussion about the design and operation of Jyrras' gun!)

Why tattoo? It doesn't affect hair/fur color, just skin. Just do a dye job.

He's in a couple of pictures besides that, and he's a character from my new webcomic.Which Amber is gunna make sure I start sketching this month. (It'll probably be a good 8-10 months or so before the comic goes live tho...I want a decent buffer before I start...And I need to script a few more arcs anyway...and finish off that big list of art I owe...finish some product...maybe take some commissions...one step at a time though).
