...The plot convenience of that door followed up by Devin's explanation elsewhere is ALMOST as blatant as this... "I'm being plot convenient today!!"

...Which only makes it all the most amusing... XD

The only way I can see Abel even finding out is if Fi told him, and Fi seems to be otherwise occupied.

That presupposes that Fi is going to remain in the kitchen and not follow Devin out.  Which I suppose is possible, though unlikely IMHO.

Ah, it seems you have forgotten Amber's Shiny New Backgrounds of Detailed Goodness. Devin and Fi appear to be in a hallway carrying their trays.

Quote from: Tapewolf on February 21, 2009, 06:36:20 AM
It occurs to me that Devin's inability to hear Dan only buys him an extra minute or so.  When he brings in the sushi sandwiches or whatever, we may have a conversation much like this:

Devin:  "Um... where is the 'cubi emissary?"
Kria: "In the basement, destroying Regina."

It appears that Devin is carrying a tray of sushi and a tray of carrots, celery, and presumably dip. Fi is almost certainly carrying the sandwiches.

oh, and I could see Devin replying, "Oh? Well what are we waiting for? Let's go watch!"

If he could manage to squeeze his tentacles around the door...
It looks like a pretty tightly sealed door to me. Of course, if I were him I'd try tearing through the walls next.

That's not going to do squat if she's in a service lift or something :P

I am kind of curious if shapeshifting is the kind of magic use that goes towards making his clanmark appear.  Indeed, he's top-naked now so if it's going to appear (on one of his shoulders IIRC), we're likely to see it.

Actually one of the interesting parts of that scene is the sequence of events:

1. Aniz' eyes flash (they turn the colour of his clanmark in fact).
2. He kibbles Hennya.
3. His eyes go back to normal.
4. He realises he's kibbled Hennya.

In other words, he doesn't seem to have known what he was doing.  If so, this may bode ill for Dan.

That could only be Aniz's clan though. Cyra Cubi might not do that.
Do we know what clan Aniz and Abel are from?

I'm wondering if we're going to see the following conversation.

Regina:  Please don't kill me.  I'm begging you.  I'll do anything.

Dan (with a smile on his face and all of his tentacles):  Anything?

Regina:  Yes.  Anything.

Dan (to Kria and Lorenda):  Perhaps we could come up with something suitable if we talk it over.

I do believe that Dan will be upset with himself with losing his temper and going into a berserker rage.  Not about almost killing Regina.  Just at losing his self-control.

****
Edit:

There is a big difference between losing serenity and becoming so angry that you'll rip people's spines out at random without thinking about it.  Dan doesn't want to become a monster.  That is why he'll be upset about losing self-control.
Learn to laugh at yourself, and you will never be without a source of amusement.

Pagan

Eeeeehh... Dan has been said to think with his emotions as par the course, and Dan is a passionate person of a passionate people. I doubt he'll be horrified that he lost serenity. And I really don't think Dan's going to stop trying to kill Regina. He said he would destroy her. He vowed he would destroy her. That's not something he will give up on. He means to end her and only the mercy of the God-Amberor can save Regina now.
After a long time, some things change. Some things don't. And I still love Regina!

I assumed it was an elevator.

**EDIT**
Whatever it is, it looks to me like it's a powered sliding door.  Being a Demon and thus considerably strong, she wouldn't be cursing if she was opening it under her own power...

She's got a very angry Cubi at her heels, she doesn't really need a reason to curse.

It looks very much like she's pulling it open and pushing it shut.
Regina was (understandably) impatient for the door open for her and close behind her.

Ahh, but Dan hasn't gotten Glowy Eyes Of Doom.  Which is to say when (or if) he slices Regina to pieces, it will be deliberate.

Dan's temper seems to be of the sharp flair up, quickly over variety.  The Voice Of Doom has passed, I think his rage is over already.  What he is going on now is determination.  And possibly hate.  Regina has given him cause for hate.

A stun spell (or heck a blow to the head from Abel) might do the trick.  Or, if Kria threatens to resurrect DP if Regina dies...
If they can get him sane, "Destroy her later" is an option they might be able to compromise on.

In the "Duh" column, one reason Kria's not too worried about Regina is that she can always revive her later, . . . as long as Dan leaves all the pieces behind, which she'd insist on since Regina was never part of the Dark Pegasus agreement.

"I've got all the spell reagents here. They're expensive! I certainly don't want to waste them!"

Sorry if this has been pointed out before.

As far as we've seen so far, Abel hasn't tried to teach Dan any magic yet. Besides, hitting yourself (or anyone else for that matter) in the face with a rock wouldn't take awesome amounts of power. A bus sized boulder, maybe.
I don't think we've seen any real evidence that his robe gave him magical protection, his resilience in fights (blasted by DP in their first meeting, recovering from their last fight) could be more from his cubi heritage.

In the flashback where Wildy gave Dan the robe, she said that it was designed to protect him from magic.  No reason to doubt her.

Recovering from fatal wounds, yes, that certainly fit his cubi heritage.

Dan and Abel aren't necessarily from the same clan.  However we already know what kind of emotions Dan feeds off of, though I can't link or quote the page yet, they already determined that Dan feeds off of the heroics of adventuring, which was why it was suggested that he would be a good candidate for killing adventurers shortly there after (for the righteousness of protecting the Cubi Race)  He feeds off of the righteousness of slaying his enemy, or at least thwarting their "evil" plans.

He may kill her.  However I believe that Kria will offer to make some exchange of some manner.  I think that since he is without the Robe of Don't Get Hurt that Kria will be able to lay a spell of Knock It Off on him.  Let's not forget how she was a teacher of such things once.

Aniz is/was going mad.  That's what is implied by later explanation.  His madness leads him to do things that Fa'lina cannot predict, because her powers are awesome in Saia, where she can freely read the thoughts and emotions and thus do the process of elimination that such factors make possible to account for the end result.  *Edit* However if Aniz doesn't know what he's going to do, until after he's done it there is no hope for Fa'Lina to predict it.

And I love how everyone sees Dan doing the Aniz thing.  Personally I can't wait to see what happens.  :mowhappy

Erm....the problem there is that Aniz was insane, and had several other problems besides whatever caused him to black out and kibble Hennya without being aware. Dan is, last we knew of, completely mentally stable. So there's no reason for Dan to suddenly black-out and be unaware of the carnage he creates.

Do we know that?  Dan's fear has always been that he might lose control and go on a killing spree.

Fa'Lina certainly didn't help to dispell that impression:

That could explain why Fa'Lina suggested that Aniz remain at the school for a time.  If Aniz was improperly schooled (having to spend many years in one disguise or another) it would lend poorly to his restraint, his madness not even considered.
