I read that as take a copy and put it where you can use it. Nothing further necessary (unless you feel like thanking Silver). Correct me if I read that wrong though.

Why amazingly enough I did!  However being not entirely sure how the whole 'adopt' process works (is it mine? does it already belong to someone else?) I thought it best to ask.  Especially since even the topic and the text given doesn't clarify.

Yeah, it's not entirely clear whether they're exclusive (first come first served) adoptions or open (multiple adopters).

Just pick the Yappity you like, save it to your preferred hosting site (to safe Silverfoxr's bandwidth) and then place it in your sig-line or somewhere, so it feels comfy and can look around at other yappities and people.

I'm not sure about multiple adoptions, but most of the time it's one per yap.
