While Abel like give the impression that he is an invincible son of a  , in reality he has led a sheltered life on school grounds.  At least that is the impression I have from him.

Maybe Abel's just creeped out that he might be hurt or have hurt himself in sadness over losing Aary. I mean, c'mon... he went MIME!
There's that whole lack of love for blood thing, ya know.
Or maybe he did just watch one to many horror movies at SAIA between classes.

Y'know for all of Abel's 'tough talk' he really does seem like he's quite the cautious one irl. And I do think that sometimes maybe cubi see too many weird/horror things so perhaps he's worried that whatever stole a powerful mage like Merlitz may come for Abel next if he's not careful. Who knows.
