The "next word" game variant

This is an odd variant of the next word game. Instead of coming up with a completely different word, you change one letter of the previous word. Unlike the next word game, this game somebody can actually lose at. You cannot change the order of the letters. For example from "dirt" you could make "diet" by changing the r to an e. But you could not change "dirt" to "trio: by changing the d to an o. I will start us off with a simple word.

It occurs to me that the title wasn't the best for this topic and some may make a mistake as to the rules. >.> Oh well.
