IIRC Dan is around 16 here.  That makes Jyrras twelve.  I think it would be a little early for him to have brought the patches to market.

I vote for were.
Mostly because of elimination using a large number of reasons that would bore you or could easily be thought of yourself.

He may have been inventing that early, but his foray into patches involves both technology (of some sort) and magic, which I think is fairly recent, lets say only the last few years or less. Patches in particular are just the last year I think (since the beginning of the comic), though he could have been working on the idea for years.

Either way, I'm curious as to how in the world this fight's gonna end. They both appear quite determined to kill the other.

Personally, I hope for a convenient plot twist which results in them both coming out of it alive.

Hmm I had thought it to be a wall they crush through
but you have a point that it seems pretty dark where they are going to.

Maybe they make a convenient short cut for the others to Dark Pegasuses layer.

It would also allow both to stay alive and save face by fighting him together.

Dan is 20 in this flashback, 1 year older than Aliyka.

This flashback is set approximately about 5 years in the past.   You'd be amazed how much a person can change between being 19 years old and 24.

That still leaves Jyrras at 16.  How long has he been dealing with patches?  Azlan's had his for the whole comic, so I'm guessing for awhile, but "awhile" could be 2 years.

I suspect that will be the case, seeing as how they are all on the same side, and we know Aliyka is still alive in the current comic time.  Somehow, I have difficulty seeing a giant kitty actually beating and killing a dragon amazon.

Sometimes intelligence is not measured in book smarts but dealing with situations.
Dan was able to deal with the 'screaming banshee horde,' get Jyrras to cheer up and get Jyrras some confidence all in the same day.
By that Dan could seem like a genius at the time.


The vote on patches, I'm guessing that they were in the R&D department. 
After Jyrras met Dan he met Dan's life long friend Mab and the idea of patches soon became a reality.
