I can't remember where I found this link (If I had to guess, it had been on LJ), but I figured I might as well share it with you guys: MultiBabel - Lost in Translation

It's a silly little web tool that takes any English text and does multiple machine translations of it ("English -> some foreign language -> English" five times to be exact).

Some examples (taken from random parts of my "Unseen Path" fic since I just had it open):

"Then he briefly sniffed the robe he was wearing, causing Fa'Lina to laugh."
becomes
"Then soon reniflé the aligned one at night, this furrow was he, to the form of the hemp of the company of risá."

"Is endless optimism some Cubi power nobody told me about?"
becomes

And just to show that it also mucks up things without DMFA-specific vocabulary or names:

I did that with a website a few years ago, translating it to Spanish and back.  Actually that would have been about ten years ago 

Anyway, the ones which stuck in my memory were: "Cool stuff list" which got rendered as "Cold things catalogue".

Conversely, "What's new and hot" became something like "That which is new and warm".

Makes you wonder, though, doesn't it? There's a lot that I can say in Irish that there is simply no English equivalent for and vice versa - I'd like be a native speaker of more than two languages, because I don't think you can truly understand the differences between them if you learn them without living them.
