We had a thread for interesting links in the past.

I think we ran out of interesting links, or it went idle for a while, for I cannot find it. So I thought I'd post another one.

I know that nobody will click on this one because it's too much like school-work, but I love language and this site is my bible for everything related to transactional and interactional dialogue.

I didn't read enough to determine if it was satire, so I'm taking it at face value.

``Klomp's primary argument rests on what he calls the 'Quickening,'''

The Quickening was a horrible film.  Ruined the entire Highlander series.

Also, I believe the term that Klomp wants is `singularity'

(Hee!  Klomp sounds like a perfect name for a Pynchon character.  Right beside Patience Eggslap)

.... you couldn't tell by the start of the second sentence that it was satire?

I worry for you, I really do.

It sounded like it, but I was more skimming, and looking at the bold words.

You also have no idea how bad the political rhetoric is here.  ``Once again I would like to thank our readers for sending in your fish bones and boar hides in support of this journalist's campaign to expose Dr. Klomp's trans-simianist prattle for what it is: a collection of wishful thoughts out of keeping with any factual evidence'' sounds like something pretty normal here.

e.g.

Quote from: The EditorsPeter Beinart will assume that there's something to this, and write about how the Democrats need to abandon their unmanly intellectual elitism and embrace the proud Democratic tradition of Wavy Gravy. Gregg Easterbrook will mount his 600 cubic hectare gravity bong and write a column about how the theories of evolution and relativity are only theories, maaaan, and as such are no better than his theory that there is an infinitely wise and kind and just spirit controlling the universe who allows the creatures he loves unconditionally to suffer the many arbitrary cruelties of this world, such as Gregg Easterbrook columns. Principled liberals and moderates will roll over, and public universities will create Departments of Conservative Studies, where you can earn a Doctorate in Wingnuttery for your dissertation on how the Dixie Chicks made us lose Vietnam.

Yes, it's a satirical response, but it's a satirical response to a real guy. (and here's what Gregg Easterbrook said)
