*Charles smites!*  No RPing in the thread!   >:O  *llearch is banned for life!  From enrolling in medical studies... *  That's all I have the power to do.   :<

*Charline raises eyebrows at Aniz, then turns to Amber*  Ya know, it might be easier for people to believe that not all Cubi are evil if it weren't for the fact that the only ones they ever see eventually turn out to be seriously mega-evil.  Except of course for Dan and Abel, but they're young as yet and still very close to their Being roots, not twisted and warped; like Ink, for example.   :3

Which is more or less my point with Abel.  He doesn't know where he is, so I don't know how he could expect to escape, so holding his mom hostage really isn't going to have much effect.

i dunno, if i took you away, with a bag over your head, you can't see a thing, and i tell you to shut up or ill kill your mom, would you listen? The mention of your mums death would make anyone do what they were told.

My point is that the likelihood that Abel will try to escape is zero.  Threatening his mom might make him less likely to try to escape, so that would change it from zero to...zero.

Besides, if that's his only card, eventually Abel will have to either call his bluff or Aniz will have to follow through and throw away that only card.

Abel, if you attack your teachers, I'll kill your mom.
Abel, if you run away, I'll kill your mom.
Abel, study for the exam or I kill your mom.
Abel, you eat everything on that plate or I kill your mom.
Abel, did you wash your hands after visiting the little boy's room?  You know what that means...

I mean, after a while, you just get tired and stop following it, not because you don't care, but rather because the crushing stress makes you incapable of thinking straight.

Plus, Fa'Lina is probably going to overrule him, and thus it would make sense not to use it as a lever.  I'm sure that they have more effective levers, anyway.

I have nothing to say, as this comic has left me utterly speechless. Please move along.

Bah!  Open your mind!  "Evil" is meaningless, and purely and entirely subjective, and dependent on who's doing it, and everything falls into grey areas and judging other people is wrong and stupid and-

:smack

...ahem.  Sorry.

Now that I think about it, though, is it me or is this the first sign of (for want of a better word) humanity we've ever seen from Aniz?

No, she wasn't.  Aniz would have killed her, or at least not stayed with her for 25 years if that were the case.

Oh, expendable doesn't mean useless! Just means he can get rid of her if he feels it suits his needs better. :)

superluser, I'm not sure I understand why you are so sure that Abel won't try to escape. Personally, if I were kidnapped and taken away to a place that seems at least a little bit civilized (which is to say, not in the middle of an inhospitable wasteland), I would seize my first chance to get away from my captor, even if I had reason to believe that the whole community was against me. I can't speak for you or for Abel, but it doesn't seem completely unreasonable.

I think that it is completely reasonable for Aniz to hold Abel's mother's life over his head.

*tch* flesh golems built in one's image are great, but they just lack the power to take on any tough oppoents...  plus the lack of authentic magic weaponary and ability to use wind magic.

Anyways, on a more serious note, Aniz potentially could have a reason for hating May beyond the whole creature-being racisms.  Probably something along the lines of her being so helpless *shrugs*

I find it interesting that he says, "What about Mom?" as opposed to, "What about my mom?"

Accepting someone as your biological parent does not necessarily mean that you don't hate their guts however. He after all does have a great deal of supporting evidence to believe that Aniz sired him.

I'd have found it a lot more interesting if he called him "dad", or another "familiar" fatherly term. Something I bet we won't ever see happen.

Bweeheeheehee. Yeah, I agree. Acceptance does NOT equal like.

... I just have this image of Abel looking up at Aniz and saying "Daddy, are you sure this is right?" /tankgirl

Ah-za-de-zo-be Alucard face... (smiles stupidly at the third panel)

I really love Aniz. He's such a bastard at all the perfect moments. And poor Abel... now you KNOW he's gonna end up triggering May's death. Marvelous comic, Amber.
The Real Myth of Sisyphus:
The itsy-bitsy spider went up the water spout,
Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain,
And the itsy-bitsy spider went up the spout again...

Aniz is perfectly capable of attacking May and threatening Abel with her death simply to control Abel even if he had no intention of harming May and/or was actually in love with her.  Even if he is in love with her, I feel that he is capable of severely injuring her in order to maintain control over Abel.  I don't think he'll kill May because that would cause him to lose control over Abel.

Aniz is not a candidate for the Albert Schweitzer humanitarian award.

I'm not sure where Amber is going, but it should be an interesting ride on the roller coaster.  I expect that we will face at least two major surprises.  Some of Aniz's  emotions seem genuine, but others seem rehearsed and fake.  I'm just not sure which fit in each category.

Eeeehhh...I feel as though the "Flowers on your grave" line has been devalued by continuing threats.

Oh dear.

Not really. You just have to think that May can't see or know about all these continuing threats upon her life, so the line loses no impact when you realise it's -her- the line is meant to affect, not Abel. The last thing she heard (to put it loosely), that she'll never forget.

I'm not sure whether the lines were meant to affect May or Abel.  After all, if he's not expecting to meet May again, why would he care how she feels?

But he is planning to meet May again... to kill her.  I'll bet he takes his time and makes Abel watch.  Prolly gonna eat her liver with fava beans and a nice chianti... gnash gnash gnash...  :kruger

I'm not so sure about the methods you have given, however I do believe he plans to kill her at some point. And seeing as how he's a cubi, and how he thinks May is worthless, I'd have to say there's a good chance someone's going to be getting a soul to feast on.

Ehh, I'm sure he'd rather have a nice pair of cooked cubi wings...  they taste like kobe beef you know?  Wait, no, that's just me that likes them..  in any case, as long as Abel behaves, May should be fine...  I'm actually predicting her death to be suicide, or old age, and once that happens, Abel is going to cut loose a bit.

Aleolus

...Wow.  I cannot believe he just said that.  Aniz is confusing me.  On the one hand, he's so regretful about Hennya, and he obviously cares for Abel, yet he is totally devoid of any feeling when it comes to May.  How is that possible?
