Bad news for the bees. The gardener came and scared them away with smoke. I guess that ends it... For now, at least.

who knows... my dad had a lot of wasps on his roof and threw alcohol on them several times with no results

I saw a Myth Busters similar to this;  Using vodka as a bee repellant.  Turns out water worked better, the vodka just got the bees drunk. :|
