Yes, falling back on older or mundane methods can give you an edge.  The US wargame where one side went completely dark and used motorcycle couriers to avoid electronic intercepts was a classic example.

But for Alistair and the gang, they still have to contend with Bug, Hopper and Nils, who I doubt are going to fall for the same trick.  It'll be interesting to see what they can do with this small advantage.
