on a scale of 1 to eating babies, how evil do you feel you are?
do you enjoy writing, if so, what do you write (poetry, short stories....)
do you own a car, if so, what type?
have you ever done something that seemed like a good idea at the time, but in hindsight, you regret making it?

Dear Invisible Friend,

The apartment or flat question was asking which one you use. So, which?

Have you ever had occasion to run a gas line in your home?

My hands are sore, yours?

Congratulations!?

Ah, sorry I didn't post any of the answers yesterday: I meant to, but I had to check up on my apartment, and after the two hour drive (including some lovely traffic) I was too tired to do so.

Okay, we've got a lovely batch today.

Someone ate the baby so she won't be out to play

Quote from: Gabi on December 20, 2008, 11:05:31 AMThen what, dear IF, would you say your strongest points are?

I've just been talking in a chatroom and, after discussing a certain country's politics for a while, I found out the others knew nothing about my country. Has something like that ever happened to you?
What countries (or even continents) have you studied about?
What do you think of the current situation in your country?
And since we're at it, what -if anything- do you know about my country?
Quote from: Gabi's IFOh, most definitely being a parasite on social situations and talking out of both sides of my mouth at once.

I am ever astounded by the ignorance of others.

I've studied people as a whole, so one could say all of them? In depth? Quite a few.

It's not great, but compared to quite a bit of the rest of the world we're still sitting pretty.

República Argentina, in land the second largest country in South America to Brazil. Primary language, Spanish, although it is apparantly a different sort of Spanish than is spoken in Spain. Estimated population, 40.5 million, of which about 35% live in the capital of Buenos Aires.  That city itself was first settled by Spanish explorers I believe in 1580.   In more modern history, I know but that it is something of a chess center, and that Miguel Najdorf made his home there (and changed his name, it used to be Mendel Najdorf) after his home country of Poland was invaded. That's about all I know in hard detail, (Aside form the Falkland war, but that might be a bit impolitic to go on at length about) but there is quite a bit more I can deduce or guess, such as the government being rather left wing compared to my own, or that the sorts of cuisine that are popular would be a mixture of spanish foods in vogue in the late sixteenth and sevententh centuries mixed in with what the natives ate, and then with the development continued from there. I imagine that say, pastries with corn mixtures are quite popular, although that is just a guess.

Dear invisible friend,

What are your thoughts on the bailout of the auto industry that was passed?

Do you get uncomfortable around crowds?

Do you like to keep pets?

Have you ever played D&D? If so, what are your thoughts on D&D 4.0?

What can change the nature of man?

Edit addition: Just out of curiosity, what would you do if you became an expert hacker
for a day?
Quote from: The1Kobra's IFI think I'm tired of talking about Bush.

It depends on the crowd and the situation.

Yes, I do.

Yes, I have. But that doesn't mean I have a formed opinion about 4.0.

That's a tricky question. I could answer what I think, or what I've heard or read other
people say. The former may be saying too much and I wouldn't feel comfortable with the
latter.

I'd take notes so that I could retain that knowledge in the future.

I suspect that due to a family reunion tomorrow night (Christmas Eve... good gods my extended family annoys me sometimes), and Christmas Day the day after that I shall not be posting answers for the course of those two days, but I might be able to slip one in on the 25th. I will still be receiving answers and pictures, of course.

Quote from: Darkdragon on December 22, 2008, 04:51:16 AM
Dear the one who is veiled in shadows:

How would you make an objective distinction between "eloquent" and "not eloquent" when regarding people?

What do you consider as being one of the higher aspirations in life, and why?

What is a social norm that you do not completely agree with and on what grounds?

The current economic model holds no regard for the resources which is required to fuel the economy. Since the extraction of resources will, in some way or form, damage the environment, where is the happy medium which you find between the two evils?

What makes a person a person?
Quote from: darkdragon's IFDear the one who is bathed in light,

Obviously it's impossible to make a completely objective distinction,
but I would say that the use of correct grammar conventions when you
speak and the use of correctly spelled words and punctuation when typed.

I think being able to teach is a pretty high aspiration because it takes
a certain kind of person to be a teacher and it is also a very noble
thing to do, donating so much of your time for the benefit of others.

I don't agree with the need to be thin and "in shape."  Changing your
lifestyle and your body just to meet the norms of everyone else is just
wrong.

Once we find a way to reliably create electricity, be it via nuclear
power or hydrogen cells, we should be able to allow the environment to
rebuild itself.  Once the world can break its dependence on oil and the
need to expand, it should be fine.  I understand that there are some
nations that sill need to expand farmland, and that it understandable.
What is unnecessary is expansion solely to create a surplus.

A person is a person when they have the ability to make decisions,
regardless of how simple the decisions are.  Even an infant makes
decisions, but they are mostly composed of "Will I eat this, or not?"
and other such simple binaries.

No paragraph this time.  Next time you'll get two.

Okay. Time for more Qs and As.

Dear Invisible...
I've prepared some hypothetical questions for you, I hope you don't mind..

If some random person you didn't know punched you while you were walking down a street, then moved on, how would you react?

How would you respond if a poor, sickly looking person met you at a train station and begged for some money?

If someone kept running up to your home's door, pressed the doorbell many times, and ran away every time you came out, only to come back and ring the doorbell when you turned away, what would you do?

What would you do if from a window(or something along those lines), you saw three men, dressed up in black suits and wearing shades started to approach your home?

What would you do if during the middle of the night, you heard a loud scream?

If I used that picture you posted in either my signature or as my avatar, how much would you want to hurt me?

well, seeing as we've still got a few more days to go, i guess i'll try a few deeper questions

If it is taboo to kill in most major monotheistic religions... why is it that more people have died in the name of these gods, than any other cause?

do you have any pets, if so, what kind?

have you done something in the past 2 weeks that seemed awesome at the time, was probably a bad idea, but will now give you a great story for the rest of your life?

Okay, the contest ends in two days. So, those of you who have yet to get a picture in (you know who you are) should hurry up.

Also, the end of the contest might be delayed slightly: I will be on vacation, and have limited internet access. I was unaware of the relative lack of access when I volunteered to run the contest, so, my apologies in advance. I will still be able to end the contest (and if for some reason I cannot, I will find a way to alert you to that, and we could leave it open for a few more days or something like that). Actually, maybe I should ask Boxy if he could end it if I'm unable to... I'll ask him. Also, at this point it looks like I will be unable to participate in Round 36, but we'll see. Again, apologies.

Anyway, here's the next set of answers.

Quote from: Darkdragon's IFI, like God, do not play with dice and do not believe in coincidence.

Impossible.  Because if I simply say that we have a mind that thinks
outside of simple instinct, that also includes many higher mammals, like
dolphins or chimpanzees.  There is nothing that we can do that no other
creature cannot.  Oh, wait.  I just figured it out.  Ambition.  Other
creatures have ambition (e.g.: the ambition to become pack alpha), but
non have the ambition to change their ecosystems like humans have.  Or
to look to change their fates and fortunes.  Human: n. A creature
created of raw ambition, a hunger for power which can never be fully sated.

A creature composed of at least one cell.  I will assume that you know
what constitutes a cell.

Yes, to both questions.

I believe that "free will" is both a misconception and an illusion.

I really don't know.  I feel unqualified to decide what I could try to
live without.  Once something disappears, you discover that you can't do
without it.  It's just what happens.

I truly dislike (I don't like using "hate" or "despise") people who
lie.  It generally means they're hiding something, and I am one of the
types of people who prefer to have a person respond that they can't
answer than give a straight out lie.

Yes, I had a lot of fun, and I think I know who mine is.

By the way, sorry for not finishing the two-page essay.  Kind of got
caught up in everything.
And they sent...

Dear invisible friend...

When you try to find information about political, scientific, economic, or other inquiries, where do you tend to search?

Have you ever gotten this feeling of Deja vu?

Do you like reading?

Do you like RPing?

Have you ever gotten this feeling of Deja vu?

Are you upset that I'm asking these questions near the end of the round?

Gabi

Heh. The1Kobra, when I saw your 2nd question, I knew you were going to ask it again.

Though I'm afraid you and I may be the only ones online right now.

I don't usually wear them, but they don't make me mad.
Probably disgust because I think if I were a care bear I would go insane.
No.
I can't really answer that without measurements and numbers.

I have no idea, I'm not clairvoyant, I can't see the future.

And with that, Round 35 is closed! Post your guesses as to your Invisible Friend in here. And I hope everyone had a happy and safe New Year's Eve and New Year'ss Day, and to those who know these things, a Happy Hogswatch as well!

Basilisk2150 also that first question was a trick question it was in binary so the answer was eight or rather 1000 to stay true to form
