Read the rules. There's the button at the top of the forum, in the menu, right between "CM: The Site" and  "FAQ". You must read that before posting. And, you must follow those rules when posting.

For all you new people, this serves as your first warning. I'm not singling people out or picking on anyone specifically, but we've had some new people that just don't bother paying attention to that thing we call rules.

Read them. Follow them.

That is all. Feel free to discuss how much of a loser llearch is.

(sigh) and for those of you that can't find the menu (yeah, I know that was you Haz), here's a link: http://www.clockworkmansion.com/main.php?page=rules

Oh yeah, and it's best just to avoid anything people suggest you (do/say/click/eat/open/discuss/etc). Generally it's best not to do anything, say anything, or click that button marked "reply".

*Whistles innocently.* :.  It's not my fault the themes I like don't have the rules button. :(

All posts must be written entirely in English? So now it's wrong to use another language even if we provide a translation? Why?

Looks like It's been that way for a while.  Why/how the rule is enforced in practice may be a different story, but that's solely the domain of the moderators and I'm not touching that with a ten-foot pole.

Of course not. A ten-foot pole is hard to hold and can cause some serious damage. ;)

Ok, then, I thought it had been rephrased to become stricter, or something like that. If it's the same as before, then I guess I can keep making occasional posts with a phrase in Spanish followed by a translation, right?

The only thing we changed was the phrasing on the moderation's reason. The one moderator that could speak Spanish left over a year and a half ago. I just never managed to change that bit.

Otherwise, that rules is exactly the same as it's ever been.

Really, not a lot changed.  We clarified a few things (roleplaying), edited a bit to reflect the current moderation staff (foriegn language), added a bit more information due to requests (donation buttons in sigs), and some minor wording and typo issues, as well as updating the admin list.

We just wanted everyone to be aware that it'd been done.

Updated the rules a bit, in order to further clarify signature heights (250px, for those wondering at home, although llearch's probably the only one who will enforce that), although the exhaustive study of signature heights (ie I went and checked about fifteen people) are well within the new standards.

We also worked to fix the "hi" epidemic.

Most of you should probably not need to reread them.

We updated the rules again. Fairly extensive update this time. Everyone should read over them once to make sure they are up to date on the rules.

Since when can't swear words be heard on television? I don't use them myself, but it's virtually impossible to turn on the TV and not hear them.

And was the person who wrote the rules angry?

I wrote the rules.

There are a few words that can't be said on American television.

For those who are international, the seven words that cannot be said on American television/radio are:

Fuck, Shit, Piss, Motherfucker, Asshole, C*nt, Tits.

These levy about a $7000 fine per usage (circa 2002)

It is worth noting however, that on American television/radio, "Pissed Off" is allowed, but "Piss" as the bodily function is not.  Also not permissible is an extensive discussion of bodily function.

As George Carlin put it:

"Why are you so pissed off?"

"Because you just ****ed on me."

... while "tits" isn't allowed, does that mean "titfucker" gets you a two for one?

Inquiring minds wish to know. ;-]

It's worth mentioning that the UK and NZ both have the same concept, with the understanding that there is a "watershed" mark around 8 or 9 pm, depending on where you are.

The UK may have slipped in recent years. I know NZ was relaxing it, somewhat. But the idea was, before that time, children could safely watch TV and not hear bad words. After that, all bets are off, and much later is where soft porn comes out - the Red Shoe Diaries type stuff, at least.

There is no watershed in the US for TV, however, we do have Safe Harbor for Radio. I believe that's midnight to 6am.

It's also worth noting that the rules only apply to broadcast television, that are broadcast over the airwaves controlled by the Federal Communications Commission- Cable and Satellite TV aren't currently governed by the same rules, although they tend to follow them anyway.  (For example, Torchwood has had quite a few words bleeped out the last few weeks, and last night we were denied the bum- they had pixeled it out.)

Still no exception for rot-13.
