Page 3: Syd officially joins the gang

Nick's parents are here, right? Sure, they are both Beings, and only one of them is technically related to him, but the point stands. I don't remember if exact ages were ever given, but I have been given the impression that he is young enough that his legal guardians really should be here for this.

Edit: converting this into a full chapter thread. Will clean up the title syntax once I have access to something other than my phone.

I'd argue that's a horribly shallow argument, except it's completely true. ~ooklah

Yeah, we'll make sure they're visible next page.  To be honest, I suspect that the import of the ceremony will be a little lost on them anyway, but it's true that he could use the emotional support.
Nick is canonically 21 (chapter 6, page 1) so he's old enough to strike out on his own but young enough that he could still use the support and guidance.

Though his current outfit might be a little surprising to them.  "Must be a 'Cubi thing, I guess..."

40-06 - Not on the same wavelength

I can envision his reply already:
"Can't help you I'm afraid. You'll have to take it up with the PTA or the next Parent/Teacher conference."

...only written better, and maybe hinting (in a non-threatening way) that the lad would be safer keeping his head down studying rather than at Ground Zero of whatever "Mommy Dearest" is doing.

"Well! I'd be happy to do a prisoner exchange, but there's one small hiccup. Richard isn't a prisoner. He's a student. I can't force him to go anywhere."

40-09 - 'He can't kill me over the phone... Right...?'

She is so obsessed over Daryil's youngest son, it makes me wonder how old said son is. 40? 400? It has been implied that his youngest daughters are late Teen, early Twenties. Not that the loon cares. It is always the oldest/youngest male heirs with these crazies.  :mowdizzy

TBF it's not so much a gender focus on their part as it is that 'Daryil has a Headwing-sprouting-aged child' reached them as 'Daryil has a Headwing-sprouting-aged son.' They wanted to get someone raised as a Being with no preconceived notions (read: easily moldable) who they could convince of the merits of their approach to serve as a spokesperson and get Daryil to cease with everything he was doing to them (I think unknowingly but they think it was purposeful?) at least long enough for Epsilon to happen anyway.

Of course his daughters were actually raised Cubi so, instead of getting their Headwings at the last possible moment like Dan or Syd, they've actually been going to Illiath's for a while by this point and were never apart of this induction week sorta deal for the new students that they sent Richard to...of course none of this matters anymore, because all the reasons getting Dayril's youngest child specifically no longer apply, but it's what was written on the to-do list so it's what Finch is going to do. Even if it accomplishes nothing more than bringing in any Dayril Clan Cubi who has a good relationship with him would.

Not that it makes any difference, but in case anyone is wondering, Lilith and Jezebel are around 26.

40-11 - Bad news... for everyone.

Poor Richard. It is looking more and more likely that he is going to wind up an orphan by the end of this story.  :mowsad
