What I'm not sure is clear is what the political situation is between Rei and Gardenia.  Regardless, attempting to arrest a visiting prince is not going to improve it.

Well, I guess we don't know for sure how much time has passed between the end of Volume 41 and the start of 43... but Wrath said it would take them a few weeks at least to get home. Man. They were waaay off that estimate... might be my fault haha

As for politics... well. Rei is just now reforming, probably have some sort of diplomatic clean slate with Jezel being overthrown and Paige put in charge. So Rei probably has no alliances or enemies as it is right now (since Grey probably won't being screwing around with Rei anytime soon thanks to 'Lord' Phoenix). One way or the other, stepping off is a good idea.
